    very nice, efficient workflow. always pick something new up from these tuts - this time it was the tip to keep the object spreading in just the two directions to super speed up the UVs, good trick. excellent low poly goodness on this channel.

    Ahhhh, very clever. Alright thanks, I'll look at that tutorial too! I'm very new to digital 3D modeling.., yesterday I didn't even know what 'rendering' meant - but it's much easier to learn with good tutorials like yours =)

    Hi, that's actually a custom marking menu I've created to speed up my workflow. The tool can be found in the hotbox as well (hold space > Edit Mesh > Insert Edge Loop Tool)
    I have a tutorial where I cover how to create your own custom marking menus in my channel.

    thanks, very useful to me, this way of using billboards can be used for many other objects (e.g. your grass video); i used to believe that drawing branches on billboard planes and stitching them to the tree was the only way, this is clearly faster and better looking

    could you explain what the red orange / yellow vertexes are when you are building the plane for the leaves

  • @TalesOfNalstoneTeam
    @TalesOfNalstoneTeam  11 років тому

    Select your object and press F8 to enter component mode. You can hold right click and select verts or faces. Is that what you meant?

    hm so this same method can be used to create chain-link fences or grid-like floor panels like you see on some catwalks. awesome, thanks for sharing!

    Not quite, In the video at 17:05 it shows a large yellow circle as you raise the middle of the leaf plane...thats what I am having trouble with, thanks for replying by the way :)

    thanks for the help. FYI... You know you could have just duplicated and mirrored one side after you UVed one of the sides right? you could save half that time. That way you dont have to unfold your UVs twice and on top of that spend the time overlapping both UV shells so that they are identical.

    Forget my last question because I figured it out but now I have a new one...when you are adjusting the proportions for the leaf plane, how did
    you do that???

      I've updated the link to another set of brushes that are better than mine. The brush I had is long gone, I've lost it due to lack of backups after I went on a cleaning craze on DA and now I can't find it anymore. Grab the new brushes in the description. :)

    Hi there ! Your tutorial is really good ! For some reason though, when I try to unfold the 2 shells with the 4 UV's you selected, it doesn't quite unfold it the same way it does to you...I'm using Maya 2016, any specific settings I should change it to or is it just fine with w/e unfold it comes up with and then modify it the way you did ?

    Hello, it's a great tutorial. Just one issue that I have: I get clipping when I move the camera around the tree. I tried to put the leaves further away not to lay them off but it still happen. Yours seems not to have this problem. or is it a Maya 2014 issue? Thanks!

    • @necrowizzard
      @necrowizzard 8 років тому

      +Lauch you need to draw the backfaces also, or create a two sided plane (ok answering a year later will probably be too late :P)
      drawing the backfaces is either an opengl or directx command

    !!! I had a question... how did you set up your background in maya? I know you can use alt+B to cycle thru basically diff shadfes of grey as your background in your viewport. if you could let me know how you did a skybox type background thatd be awesome.

    DO you know how to prevent back side of the surface from being black when rendered? I tried to make doublesided shader with condition abut now i can see leaves on both sides but the rest of the polly that should be transparent is black. any idea?
