When you threaten run from shotgun at the goal line, the only real threat is for them to run from the tackles and in. When you get under center, the D can’t crash down the same because you can anywhere and boot off it which really extends the play. It’s more ground to cover. When you’re in the gun, it’s a quick run or pass.
You’re preaching the fundamentals to the OL when you’re running a lot of Outside Zone. You can’t block with fundamentals in Zone because you’re constantly trying to sustain blocks while running sideways for 10-15yds! You can’t block with fundamentals on these reach blocks. The offense gets a half second to a full second head start by knowing the snap count and where the play’s going. You give up that head start when you try to block a zone scheme. It should be used as a run that you mix in every 4-5 running plays to throw them off. It can’t be your bread and butter. I can't believe the media dropped the ball on asking coach Washington 2 critical questions about what happened Sunday in Indy both including forward progress. That impacted the game hugely. The sack fumble on Anthony Richardson and the Forward progress that was given to Jonathan Taylor. I heard Kevin byard say that they thought they had him stopped and was waiting for the refs to blow the whistle. I think the refs blew both of those calls that helped the Indianapolis colts victory.
I'm curious... how many coaches & coordinators can Eberflus bring on that fail miserably before he is held accountable? I feel like I'm forgetting some. But at my current count I have the following: DC, Alan Williams (btw, did we ever find out what truly happened with him?). Then there's OC, Luke Getsy, QB's coach Andrew Janocko, WR's coach Tyke Tolbert, RB's coach Omar Young and assistant TE's coach Tim Zetts also were let go. Throw in the fact that Eberflus has to take responsibility for losing 3 games with a 10+ point lead in the 4th quarter last year. Which is tied for the most in a season in NFL history.
Shane you better figure out how to beef that line up and be able to run against most teams and figure out plays beyond the line of scrimmage. There is always gonna be a 1-1 situation help the kid find that mismatch period.
Ask Shane why did all your lineman fall on the ground after the snap in the redzone. Ask why we are on the NFL level and still struggling to “communicate.” Why is your center getting falcon punched in the opposite direction.

I love Hightower, but it’s really annoying to get these special teams penalties. They need to be coached to be telling themselves the whole way through the play, “no holding, no blocks in the back and block or tackle with fundamentals”. These refs are looking for the penalties and getting their airtime on ST’s. It wasn’t too long ago where we were penalized on 14 straight punts or punt returns that weren’t fair catches. There’s zero excuses for it. We were taught that you couldn’t block with your fingers and it made it easy. Teaching to block with the base of your palms always keeps you in the correct position for a block.
