This is the only remake ever to achieve what it was actually trying to do take the original graphically enhance it and add extra gameplay elements to what was already there before.
Unfortunately, too many people can't handle the fixed perspectives and lack of first-person/over shoulder view so we're not getting this style back in any official RE game.

I was 10 years old playing this game by myself when it came out, i csnt explain to younger people how much games like this scared the hell out of you and during a time when there was much else to compare it too. They really put a lot of soul in older games before games became targeted to a larger audience.

Can we take a moment of silence to appreciate that this masterpiece originally came out in 2002 for that little gaming cube? I remember being absolutely blown away by the graphics-they were so far ahead of their time. Sure, the visuals have been slightly updated (I recall there being a bit more noise on the GameCube), but back then, I could hardly believe my eyes. It was a time when the first footage came from gaming magazines, and gaming still had this air of mystery.
The best thing about these Early re and silent hill games is that they were very atmospheric which is amazing to me so immersive compared to the jumpscare fest of the modern games.
This deserves a modern remake. Correctly, unlike the RE3 remake, which imo was way too short. Too many missing places like the gas station, clock tower, the park, etc.
Its incredible that this game is 22 years old and still holds up so well. The graphics are STILL amazing even today and the game play is great and playable where some older games you can see and feel how outdated it is.....On top of all that, its scary as hell! One of the best games in the RE series.
I played the original RE1 on the Playstation 1 back then. When they announced the remake, I didn't hesitate for a second and bought a copy for the Game Cube on the first day of release. Not only did the graphics update blow my fucking mind, but the newly added Crimson Heads scared the living crap out of me. THIS is how a remake should be done!
It's not a damn remake. A remake is when they start over from scratch and remake the entire game. Only then can they really make it visually stunning with a new engine. This is just a remaster all this could be done through mods.

Re 1 Remake was the only good Remake that Capcom released that surpassed its original. These new zoomer-shooter era games they make don't touch a shoelace of their originals. 2 didn't have A-Bs or the interweaving storylines as it just swapped characters in different poses, 3 was a mockery, 4 missed a great deal and became repetitive bland just after the first 30 min mark..as if it was intentional for review scores or streamers. Not to mention events, outfits and other goodies. Someone said the new games don't have a soul, they may be more right than they realized.

The closest they came to matching RE Remake for the GC and PS2 was Code Veronica X that was a rerelease of the Dreamcast title. It was pretty amazing and had bonus cut-scenes.

Honestly this game is one of the best in the series, when it comes to not only being like the original, but actually surpassing it. Resident Evil 3 would of been a great remake, if they wouldn't of cut out so much content, that made that game great to begin with. They removed all fatalities. The hunters chop your head off when they kill you in the original, but not the remake. No decapitations, no dismemberment. Your character just falls down when you die in the remake. Cinema cut scenes are still 480p and upscaled to 1080p or 4k to a blurry mess. The cut scenes look clearer in the original with 480p.
It's insane how 'updated' this (2002) is on GCN is from the original (1996) on PS1. Released only 6 years after the original, this remake on Gamecube (originally) is such a vast improvement.

Back when the Gamecube, PS2, and XBox were competing, there was a prevailing narrative that, despite being notably more powerful, the Gamecube "couldn't handle" the graphics of the other consoles of the era. .....Then this game released, and everyone shut up for like six months. It was hilarious.

Thank you for posting this. I never played this game. I want to play through the series via the recent remakes. I wanted to start with this game so I could follow the story, but man is this game hard to play. I never played the original game back in the day so I have no nostalgia for the clunky gameplay. I tried it for a few hours but got really frustrated so I will watch this instead.
It's really beautiful, but I don't like the camera movements. I mean, not in every single framing. In movies there are way more still framings than moving ones.

When did this remake released?? I have a Resident Evil Remake but the graphics and weapons and other things ive seen watching this video are way better and different looking than in my RE remake.
this game was first released on gamecube 2002. and then it got a remaster for every format.

If resident evil 1 had the look of resident evil 4 remake, it would be no doubt of it being a better game.
not really.. it would be like every other game. who needs variation? lets just make it all play about the same..

Plus the fixed camera angles actually are better for those who played the original back in the day, it's just nostalgic

Thank you for posting this. I never played this game. I want to play through the series via the recent remakes. I wanted to start with this game so I could follow the story, but man is this game hard to play. I never played the original game back in the day so I have no nostalgia for the clunky gameplay. I tried it for a few hours but got really frustrated so I will watch this instead.

They better remake this one before 5 on unreal engine. Makes no sense to go from 2/3/ village then back to 4
It's really beautiful, but I don't like the camera movements. I mean, not in every single framing. In movies there are way more still framings than moving ones.

You can get it on PS4, Xbox One, PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch. It is of course backwards compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
I love the R.E series, but my favorites are 1.2 and 3
Did they change the controller setting in RE 1 Remake I did it like playing it on Playstation 1 I did it the control settings
Esta versión del juego no es un remake, es una remasterización. Tiene mejoras a nivel gráfico, control del juego, tiempos de carga, etc... Pero no está hecho el juego al completo desde cero.
El verdadero remake saldrá posiblemente en 2026.
