If you want to test these items, you can hop into demo mode and spawn in all of the neutral items featured in this video. For example, if you want to try out Ex Machina, just type "-item ex_machina" in the chat and the item will appear in your inventory. Some items do not have the same name internally and in the game, so for example if you want to spawn in Tumbler's Toy, you need to type in "-item pogo_stick". You can find most of the internal names for items on the Dota 2 Liquipedia Wiki: liquipedia.net/dota2game/Cheats#Neutral_Items Shop items are a bit more difficult to test out, as they cannot be spawned in with the "-item" command. Based on my observation on these, the part where the comparison for Wraith Pact (with/without) are not accurate, as we can see both Visage received same 504 damage. Perhaps should have substituted the item with another with the same stats? (+250 Health/+250 Mana )
Ring of Aquila + PMS (gone with Aquila mear the same patch that brought talent tree as a shop item) was a good start, o missed that a lot at that time ;-;

Most of these, I never realized were gone. For the neutral items, I figured I just wasn't finding them. For the regular items, I figured the meta wasn't to build them anymore.
I like how there were no charges so sometimes both the support and hard support bought one, but you cd still only use one. They were really expensive as well and getting gold was a lot harder for supports. Thank god i can now afford blink dagger before the game ends
just remember how hilarious was the old time when delivering item to player, and then another player sabotage the courier to pick their item back in the base 🤣
I can see why many items gets removed. Especially 2019 ones. That items made me quit dota for couple month because some items are so op they were deciding the winning team. Plus You could use multiple Neutral items and at first there were no limit to drop if it was in right time frame. Was so annoying.
As a offlaner, wraith pact was by far the best item ever. The team just snow balls and take objectives easily. Who knew an aura that would reduce all source of damage was gonna broken. They patched it to be physical damage only and it still too strong.
Yeah, every game needs a courier in DotA so is unevitable to have it, but it opened the choice for every toxic player to ruin a game not just by giving free kills but buying 10 couriers wich means 2000 gold to enemies every 2 or 3 minutes Todays courier by default and independent for every player is by far better

Weird that the Trident never got a chance as a shop item. They just kinda expected someone on your team to have Sange, Yasha, and Kaya when Tier 5s dropped.
They need to bring bring back niche items like necronomicon. I enjoy creative ways to play dota, and necronomicon is a good example of a niche item. It doesnt necessarily buff your hero, but it can have great impact team wise. It provide good stats too for offlane/supp. This is also why enjoy wraithpact when it came out (aside being upgrade for vlads. BTW valve should make another upgrade for vlads)
Stuff like Chipped Vest was absolutely insane, you could just get owned as AM on lane but get it and safely farm your battlefury in jungle lol. Honestly some of these items were ridiculously powerful, like free mini forcestaff on tier 1 is just hell to balance especially since it's random whether you get the item you want or not

I miss repair kit so much. Our 5 man stack was horrible at everything but highground defense so repair kit was the one saving grace that helped us scrap some wins 😂
I wish they bring back Trident as a regular item like when you bought the three sword it'll automatically build into it or just make it a recipe. I see its resemblance to HoN's Dawnbringer, three swords combine as one that is really sick!
this game isn't even dota anymore, it's so wild what they have done to it. It's obvious Icefrog hasn't been the lead developer ever since 7.00 dropped, he NEVER would have approved such drastic changes. Things like neutral items and talents changed the game so much it's not dota anymore, it's more like league of legends or heroes of the storm. Icefrog also used to have a policy that content should never be removed from the game unless it's absolutely necessary, and you should strive to add rather than take away with new patches. Seems that philosophy is gone now.
i really wish necronomicon came back. It was such a nice item for a jungler and pusher archetype to have. Now, this specific niche is almost absent in this game

Diffusal blade was really good back then you can use it to remove debuff like dust, slows, dps damages

The stout shield stacked, and i think knowledge of this removed it. People started buying double shields early game and laning was so much easier
