Great old card. Cute dog. I could easily imagine myself playing at 800x600 on this card back in the day if it's all I had. Also to consider, very weak graphics card yes, but there was a time when the bottom of the barrel cards like this could be had for 50-70 USD brand new and, especially if you were willing to tweak INI settings or load up some performance mods, could actually play a demanding game released a few years later. Or well, 'play'. 😆 Keep up the good work!

STUPID SUGGESTION FOR A FUTURE VIDEO :
If you use this videocard with a dual channel DDR 5 system and then you use a GPU Ram Disk software like "GpuRamDrive" and create a 1GB Vudeo Ram Disk. You will get a better performance in GTA V. Because this GPU uses slow DDR2 memory, and dual channel DDR5 is much faster. So when you create a 1GB VRAM disk, you will trick the game to use the fast dual channel DDR5, because the slow 1GB ddr2 VRAM will be 100% used from the VideoRamDisk software. And if you don't understand what am I talking about, well basically RAM/VRAM disk is a type of software that allows you to use your RAM/VRAM as a storage device. So when you create 1GB VRAM disk with the program "GpuRamDrive" the 1GB DDR2 of the Nvidia 9400GT will be 100% full by the program and then start GTA V, the game will start using the faster dual channel DDR5 because the DDR2 is full and the game will run faster. At least in theory.

16 Cuda cores was a big deal back then lol.
It's amazing how well these cards can still work with the right optimisation in the game. Unfortunately they just are not up to scratch for gaming of any kind these days. I am surprised a 9400 GT managed to run GTA 5 with all the updates.
Kudo's to GTA5 though. Even at 5FPS it is smooth.

    • @jtenorj
      @jtenorj Рік тому

"16 Cuda cores was a big deal back then" ... Not really(I know you add a "lol"). This was like the lowest end retail card in the 9000 series. There were even worse cards, but I'm pretty sure they were OEM only. The 9500GT had twice as many CUDA cores at 32. The 9600GT had twice as many again at 64 CUDA cores and was actually a pretty decent price to performance card at the time. The 9800GTX was the top dog single GPU card of that gen with another doubling of CUDA cores to 128, though there was the dual GPU 9800GX2 with a grand total of 256 CUDA cores. So no, the 16 CUDA core 9400GT definitely was NOT a big deal back then(but again, lol).
Edit:was just thinking how these older cards compare to some newer cards. The 9800GX2 already had 16 times as many CUDA cores as the 9400GT. The GTX 1080 has 2560 CUDA cores, as do the RTX 2070 SUPER and RTX 3050(so ten times as many again or 160 times that of the 9400GT). The RTX 3080 Ti has 10240 CUDA cores, so 4 times as many as the last several cards mentioned and a whopping 640 times as as many CUDA cores as the 9400GT. Let's step back one generation to the 8400GS. There were like 3 versions of that card. One version also had 16 CUDA cores like the 9400GT. The other two versions each had only 8 CUDA cores. The RTX 4090 has 16,384 CUDA cores, which is 2048 times as many. The 8400GS had a core clock of 450MHz and a shader clock of 900MHz. The RTX 4090 has a base clock of around 2250MHz and a boost clock of around 2500MHz. With various IPC increases over the years, the RTX 4090 has go to be at least 5,120 times as fast as those old 8400GS cards. That is just insane.
Edit: Probably the last edit, but I was thinking some more about my first discrete graphics card, which was a version of the GeForce 2 MX(64MB SDR). Being a DX7 card, it didn't even have Direct X 8 pixel and vertex shaders, only hardware T&L or transform and lighting and also DX6 multi textures(to say nothing of more advanced DX9 shaders or DX10 and later unified shaders). It could handle only two pixels per clock, probably only at 16 bits per sub pixel(red, green, blue, and the alpha transparency channel). The core clock was 175MHz, but I overclocked mine to 185MHz(so 180MHz average between Non OC and OC). The 8400GS has at least 8 CUDA cores so can do 2 pixels at once with 4 32bit higher precision CUDA cores for one pixel(RGBA). But the shader clock is 900MHz, so 5 times as fast as my GeForce 2 MX. That makes the RTX 4090 at least 25,600 times as powerful as my old GeForce 2 MX which could run the original demo maps for the first Far Cry game from 2004. Granted it could only run those at like 800x600 or 640x480, but it pushed me to buy FC(which I first played through on a X800XL at 1600x1200).
Edit: this is the last edit, I swear. My old GeForce 2 MX was a single slot, half height card(fairly short as well, being not much longer than the end of the AGP connector). All 4 16MB 166MHz memory chips were on the top side by the GPU package, which sat on the green PCB as naked as the day it was created(no heatsink at all, active or passive, just like the memory). It was a AGP card with no additional power connectors, so could draw 50W at most. The RTX 4090, on the other hand, is a total behemoth by comparison. Models I've seen are all full height cards, at least three or even four slots, a foot plus long with three cooling fans and a massive heatsink with multiple heat pipes. The RTX 4090 has a TDP of 450W and can spike well above that at times.
Other than 64MB versus only 32MB, my GeForce 2 MX 200(64 bit SDRAM, not even DDR) was pretty much the crappiest GeForce card ever made(even worse than first gen GeForce 256 cards). More than 20 years later, the RTX 4090 is the best GeForce card(or best graphics card period) you can buy but it'll cost you a pretty penny(really, you can buy all the parts to build a pretty nice system for the same price as a single RTX 4090) and my GeForce 2 MX was slapped into the PC by Compaq to serve primarily as a graphics adapter(albeit one that could play a few games).

Hi mate, I have a question.
So, I'm playing GTAV & Online. I noticed that when playing in windowed borderless the game doesn't feel as smooth as in full screen even though the framerate and frametime are the exact same and are absolutely smooth.
Do you know how to make borderless as smooth as fullscreen? Is there a setting or a manipulation that I'm not aware of?
Thanks for reading me, happy holidays and merry chirstmas!

I have this gpu I didn't install GTA v because I knew it couldn't run it😂 but I played hades or disco Elysium on it which are newer than GTA v and that's impressive.😂

So sad to see a “beast” like the 8800GTX giving less-smooth experience in GTAV due to its 768MB VRAM ,when compared to the low-end 9400GT 1GB.
Which ,made me curious about something :
Fermi GTX460 has many models which were launched with 768MB ( I still have my *GTX460 768MB from TwinTech* ).
Will this Fermi powerhouse(when launched at least😛) also give less- smooth experience in GTAV , compared to a low-end & much older card such as a 😱…. 9400GT 1GB ???? oh my God , this is a GPU-nightmare for all of us who love GPUs !!
