Oh I remember this case. They said he was trying to show everyone that he was a great hero so he purposely gave the patients things that made them sick so then he tended to them afterwards and he expected to cure them to show everyone he was a hero. I remember this case in the news

I've experienced a morphine overdose that stopped my heart due to a nurse in hospital making a mistake, and I can tell you it's a frightening way to die.
As soon as the morphine hits your vein you feel like your heart is in a vice being squeezed tight, the whole time you're trying to fight it before suddenly passing out and choking on your own vomit.
It's quick but horrible.

I grew up and still live In the town where Harold operated (Hyde Greater Manchester) and my grandad ran the garage and use to service his car. He told me that he was so pleasant to deal with but seemed especially sexist towards his receptionist and would often hang up if his receptionist answered the phone. I don't know if he had something against women but it really seemed that way.

891 individual cases were looked at during the Shipman Inquiry. Written decisions on the findings of 494 cases were detailed and the final death toll for those that could be proven came to 225
It's strongly suspected the real toll was far higher because so many records and GP practice records were missing either full or in part and no solid evidence found.
