+Colin Hesketh Margaret, the lady Pat Chuldham Shaw wrote the tune for came from Unst. Pat was born in Stratford-on-Avon, but spent most of his childhood in London.
After delving further into the Pat Shaw tune Margarets Waltz, it would appear that he did indeed write the tune for Margaret Grant on her retirement from Devon branch of the EFDSS, it was written at the same time as his other tune "Farewell to Devon" to be played in tandem with one another, as on the HMV/ EFDSS recording 7EG8669 released in the early 1960s . The very name "Farewell to Devon" would also seem to further support this .
Fantastic music thank you for the joy ❣️ you give to people
Lovely playing of a lovely tune.

As A McCusker who is from Australia...lovely tune.
John McCusker - A true legend!
This tune was written in 1959 by Pat Shaw, an English fiddle player, therefore not a Shetland tune. Nicely played.
fiddle0351 I am sure he was from Unst in the Shetlands!

Not sure this is correct, It's said in some circles that Pat Shuldham Shaw wrote this in 1959 for Margaret Grant on her retirement from Devon EFDSS.
That is correct. She came from Unst, Shetland.

Lovely tune - it was made famous by Aly Bain so maybe it qualifies as a Shetland tune even if it was composed by an Englishman😃
Mark Knopfler ends up playing second fiddle...so to speak??
