Think about all the people that don't have someone like you to advocate for them! Most people are SOL. I've never had a good experience with any dealer and so far I haven't found anyone in north western Kentucky I'd trust.

I think that most people think when they take their vehicle to a dealership that is charging 150 and up per hour, they are getting the best of the best working on their vehicles. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. In my area a lot of my vehicles that I diagnose have already been to the dealer, in fact I had a customer that had his car at the local dealer and after they took a grand from him, they told him they don't know what else it could be. Don't get me wrong there are some excellent tecs working for dealers but not as many as people would think.
    Great Job Keith!!

The problem is, you can teach somebody how to fix some thing, but you can't teach somebody how to be honest. That's something that Hass to be built into somebody and part of their integrity. And integrity and honesty is a quality that seems to be lacking in car dealerships these days. there's even another jerk on UA-cam that keeps putting out videos with the premise of how to charge people as much money as you can. I can't condone his behavior.

As a shop owner I’d love to do extra training. It always seems like the good classes are way off and finding time with work schedule and family is difficult . I’m from NWA so close to you. Parts store put those little 2-3hr evening training classes together. I’ve went to a bunch I’ve never really learned a ton it turns out to be just basic stuff in the end. I’m not saying all are that way but the biggest percentage of them are. If you have connections to good training classes in our general area please fill me in.

You getting paid it might take a while, their money moves in only one way to their pockets.

The actual issue with these lower intakes is that there are 2 shafts for the flap valves, one of them is turned by the vcma actuator, then a gear at the other end of the driven shaft turns the shaft on the other side, and that shaft has the sensor on the other end. What happens is the plastic gears break teeth and the sensor shaft stops turning or turns erratically and set this code. I've changed many of these lower intakes for that reason and it is a fairly common issue as the mileage piles up.

Now you see, that is the thing about check engine lamps and codes. Just because a code was set for one reason on one car, does guarantee it will be the same for the next car with the same code (the same goes for symptoms too). Diagnosing is a must every single time and the dealer failed to properly diagnose in this case (and failed for other reason too). It's sort of the same thing as the "measure twice cut once" proverb. It saves time and money, and you don't end up looking like an incompetent fool.

I turned 51 this year, I'm done. I don't have the money for the tools and I don't have the time and money for training for the new stuff. Good luck.

Sadly... The industry is advancing faster than any one individual can keep up with as well as actually benefiting from. A one size fits all mechanic is screwed!
