What a wonderful musician and human been. Stephen Hough inspired me to begin in music at 30 and to love classical music.

Besides the wealth of knowledge and incredible insight he presents, hearing him speak makes my heart skip a beat. That accent. 😍

If style of playing pieces is not important then to a relative way neither should tempo of a piece, if we are trying to get ppl into hearing new pieces or even first time listeners of classical music.
For when a new piece is played slower than written for, a new pianist can take the challenge of performing it as it should. This is what i do with my sight reading videos. I have over 6000 videos. I give the public unheard pieces. I leave it to the professional pianists to give the performance it deserves.
I carry on the tradition of Richter and John Ogdon though at this time to a lesser degree of musical strength. My flaw in musicality should not reduce the curiosity in pianists to pick up what i have tried to entice them with. We are all cogs in a machine to get muic to all ppl.

I would call Stephen a British institution but that is
a rather clumsy term that misses the point of his artistry.

Actually if you play everything, you have a greater understanding of what music can offer for all types of music lover.
You have knowledge to be a good composer.

Stephen said ‘ you only want to play to ppl that agree with you’?
Jesus talked to ppl that did not agree with him. Love the enemy, love your neighbour. Let music make two ppl with conflicting views sit in the same room together.that is a hopeful start.

Stephen u can not say there is no racism in classical music for you have not been to every hall, every orchestra, every recital, every party. There is certainly sexual inappropriateness from men with woman. I don’t know about the other way round though but i am certain it does happen. Jesus said DO NOT GIVE FALSE WITNESS. Are you saying it to protect your career or do tou wish some justice for oppressed ppl. As the hebrew slaves represent ppl that are oppressed in this world.

I think he was referring to the diversity of the audience - that the sound he produces reaches a wide slice of society . . . just like the sun shines on everyone, good or evil. Sure, as in any organization with a hierarchy and different levels of power, the issues you mention can arise, but I think that's a separate issue from what Stephen was describing..

@@jaygatz4335 no, he made the point HIS WITNESSING behaviour in ONE concert hall means he UNDERSTANDS what goes on in other concert halls? doe he believe POLITICS and the LEADERS have corruption all around the world? He says this because he is a MUSICIAN and requires WORK.you do not insult the places that can give you work. stop protecting Stephen please.

Stephen said ‘ its not neccassarily a good thing to play everything’
Well clearly Stephen has not thought much on this subject
Let me give you an analogy. If jesus only was interested in certain ppl and rejected the rest e.g. poor ppl, then those that he rejected may have given motivation for others to embrace jesus by being healed.
You see ppl have their own musical tastes. If a pianist ONLY plays what they want, you cause rejection in ppl that will not have any music to listen to. Ppl might not like schubert. So if pianists played only schubert, then many ppl would not have any music they could appreciate. Jesus said love yourcenemy. Play music you might not like to satisfy a curiosity in others. In the point raised by stephen earlier about style not always being required, then neither does playing a composer you like.
