It was a recording of Cortot playing this Chopin Prelude that had a significant impact on me and my playing of the piano, and since then I've found gem after gem of Cortot's playing. Any technical flaws in his recordings become insignificant given his great musical insight that is projected.
Thank you for an excellent talk. Op 10/7: I could scarcely believe my ears!! Chopin said that he never practised his own music. That is the measure of his technical ability! I am glad you included Hofmann! I think his recordings of the Chopin concertos remain unsurpassed - the slow movement of the F minor is nothing short of divine......
Oh how fun I'm the first to comment. If you love Chopin's music this is a well, well spent 35 minutes. The sample recordings they share and discuss are fabulous! Ignaz Friedman, Joseph Hofmann, Stephen Hough . . . Wow.
Very Good Chopin was one of the greatest composers ever and one of the greatest melody writers ever and was so original Chopin wrote music His Way one of the most original composer the commentary and sound samples are well informed a good video for those who want to learn about this amazing composer and the last piece usually played slower but gives a performance thats.a bit faster and i think more authentic
Chopin could have written hundreds of symphonies and he would still be considered a "lesser" composer, simply because composers who do not fit the right nationality will never be considered "great". Nationalism101
His music is the most beautiful I ever heard.
So sad and so so beautiful
What a gift to discover this presentation. Thank you enormously.
A remarkable composer who’s music has fascinated me all of my life. A short life but what an impact he has made on the world……
Piękno muzyki Fryderyka Chopina to fenomen graniczący z cudem ❤️

Stephen Hough is the only one I admire the most for his versatile interpretations in multi-facet
So wonderful to have this ! Hough is always remarkable !

Oh my goodness, the Hoffman. A good technical study. No wonder the audience was half-hearted.

STEPHEN GOT THIS ONE RIGHT
Ho,ho, Chopin read poetry! Much of it!
Right on. :)
The greatness of Chopin is obvious when you listen to the Hexameron. He also makes a philosophical statement there.

Whoever thumbed down must be a Richard Clayderman fan...
darbiter90 Laughed out loud at that - had forgotten Clayderman until I read your comment :)
+darbiter90 No....john tesh fan.
Oh no!! That's insulting. I am into classical music but Richard Clayderman is my favourite contemporary new age pianist.
Yes claydeman is up there as a contemporary artist. Probably the best pianist of the latter half of the 20th century....
hahaha good one! Adrian Ventura - calm down
I wish Jeremy had let Mr Hough talk more about the Op10 studies why did he have to interrupt him so much there. Gosh such a shame
Little Polish genious? Some of the comments so funny here!
@Bea
Really
How do they 'splain away his being 50% French?
Jeremy just wont shut up. Way too much ego
This is all about him. What an egocentric personality Jeremy!!!
Yeah its a shame
The Hoffman Berceuse of 1937 was a disaster. The languid, meandering character of the piece is totally destroyed.
Hough & Nicholas look like balds talking about combs...
