I haven't done that yet, but I definitely plan to. It involves masking the windows and couplers, which takes another 10 minutes, and then spray painting it, another 10 minutes. One of these days I'll do a batch job on a group of them. I agree that after a lot of handling the pan pastels tend to wipe off, but we try not to handle them too much.
Just found it. Turns out it was just a tiny disk on top of the rotating beacon, so once I understood what I was looking for, it was right there on the floor! Have already glued it back on, using a minute bit of canopy glue.
