The Great Divide (GDMBR) Just the Trail - No Commentary, No Music (🎧 headphones advised)

- Hello All. My plans once again had to change this week as I decided to postpone a short trip I had planned due to the storm hitting the UK. Ross and I therefore decided it was a good week to put out a video he had been working on, a cut of my trip along the GDMBR that has none of my talking, very little of my face, and just focuses on the views and the sounds of the trail.
So, please sit back and relax, and enjoy this very different version of my trip. I advise watching this with headphones as the natural sounds of the trail can fully be appreciated this way.
Thank you for watching.
This is an awesome supplementary piece to your GDMBR series, which i watched right from the beginning in this summer every week with great delight. Every aspect about it is great, the filming, the editing, the commentary in the original pieces or the lack thereof here and then and the best thing - the lack of music. This is easily the best thing i watched this year on youtube. So thank you very much!
Wow. I'm glad you enjoyed this so much!!. It's always nice to get good feedback. I'm with you completely with the music. Thanks for watching 👍👍
This showcases the gorgeous landscapes of the GDMBR, but the reason I recommend the full series to my friends is your pleasant tone of voice, dry sense of humor and great observations along the way.
This all goes straight to my head 🙂🙂. Cheers and thanks for recommending me to your friends 👍👍
I absolutely loved this footage. I enjoy the natural sounds of nature and my tires rolling over terrain. I never ride with music or anything else playing in my ears. I just listen. Beautiful footage, bringing back a flood of cherished memories into my mind. The GDMBR gets in your blood but makes its home in your heart. That's what it did to me, anyway. Ride on, Mat!
I really miss that trail. I'm certain I'll be doing it again at some point. I know what you mean about that sound. I'm looking forward to the next trip. Cheers 👍
There hasn’t been a day gone by since I rode a portion of the GDMBR this summer, where I haven’t thought about my ride, or re-visualized some difficult but thoroughly satisfying / breathtaking section (e.g. High Rockies single track in Kananaskis or the climb outta Eureka MT). The pull to get back out there is crazy. I think my family is pretty done with me blabbing about it
I know how you feel 👍
@@gwilletts Right on!
@@matryderadventures Glad to hear it! Cheers!
yes!!! finally. THIS is the best type of video.
It's the first time we've put something like this out. Based on the feedback we'll definitely be doing it again. Thanks for the support 👍
Well that does it ! No music, no talking ! = instant subscription! Now we will go to all of you videos and give them thumbs up !
You probably know by now that this is my only non talking video....We don't have dismal music though. Thanks for watching 👍👍
A beautiful concise version of your experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the complete series and your commentary style. Sometimes however just video with natural sounds is a refreshing change.
Thanks for the great feedback. Glad you liked it. Cheers 👍
Just got back from a 5 hour drive to buy a Surly Bridge Club based on your recommendation. Got the majestic moss colour. Just have to cue up your diy frame bag video, dust off the sewing machine and I’ll be set for overnighters!
Excellent. I saw a few of those out on the GDMBR. It's all the bike you'll ever need. I hope the sewing goes well. I have PTSD watching that video. The stress!!!! Good luck.
@@matryderadventures
Hahaha. I remember the 🤬 in that video. Should be interesting. Good project for the Christmas break. Some good strong eggnog should take the edge off.
What a lovely idea to make this. Really represents the peace and closeness to nature you get when bike touring. Nice one!
Thanks. It's always good to hear such nice feedback. Cheers 👍
Awesome reminder of the stunning GDMBR! 2023 was possibly the best year in terms of weather. Simply perfect - thank you!
We were extremely lucky this year. It was a particularly good year. Watching it reminds me of how little rain we had. Amazing trail. Cheers 👍
Hope you got water blue cooler just before Ute pass Colorado into silverthorne. I do know about 30 cases riders got this past summer and definitely the best season for riders, y'all are amazing, I just live here on route.
I enjoyed rewatching the trip. Memories
It feels like a long time ago. I've been back longer than I was away which feels strange. Cheers 👍
Magnificent! Great video! Can’t wait for your next big adventure. God bless you!
Thanks. Glad you liked it. I have some bigger trips planned. Thanks for watching 👍
Mat, this is brilliant. Not only is it visually stunning, it's like a Master Class in B-roll! You did an amazing job setting the shots (not to mention riding the whole route!) and Ross did an excellent editing job.
Master Class.....Me?? I haven't heard that before. Thanks. It's always nice to get good feedback. Cheers 👍
This is the perfect video of the route. I raced in 2015 and am planning to race next year, and this just makes me yearn to return even more.
Glad you liked it. I honestly think anyone who races this route is godlike. Good luck next year.
Awesome! Loved your commentary, thru the series. This was brilliant as a follow up!!!! You truly brought us along for the ride !
Cheers Scott. Thanks for being a long term subscriber 👍👍👍
Well done.
I saw the skies in Tanzania, the highlight of the trip.
I'll hopefully see them myself at some.point in the future. Cheers 👍
Thoroughly enjoyed this version of your trip as did I thoroughly enjoy your original version of the trip. Really appreciated your style of vlogging in the original, especially your humor. And the fact that you didn't get all wrapped up in the stats. Looking forward to your upcoming adventures! Thanks! Stay safe! .... Ciao
Thanks. It's good to get great feedback like this. I'm hoping to get out on more adventures soon. Thanks for watching 👍
Simply stunning, thank you for sharing your adventure once again.
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching all of these videos. Cheers 👍
Another amazing video .For sure I will watch few times like all other GDMBR videos from your channel.Thank you
👍👍 Now that's what I like to hear. Cheers 👍👍
Just finished series yesterday. What an epic journey and great job of editing this down. I too love the no music footage. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Mat! Cheers.
Thanks for watching all of the videos. It was an epic journey. It'll be hard to beat. Cheers 👍
This is wonderful, I watch your channel to follow along with your experience of these adventures, so the chat and humour is a big part of what I enjoy, but to get to experience the full trail like this without any distractions, or dreadful music over the top, is a real treat. I must concur that headphones are essential to really enjoy this to it's fullest.
Hi. It amazes me how many people express their dislike of music. Nobody ever complains that there isn't any. I agree, most of the music I hear on UA-cam is dreadful. Thanks for continuing to support the channel 👍👍
Wow! Thanks for sharing in such a great way. 16:30 about is where we met. Geezy wheezy had I known you had all this video gear something different. Was my pleasure meeting you regardless, keeping it all natural as you are with sharing.
Honor to have met you friend.
Thanks Steve. It may be a while but I'm determined to get back out on the GDMBR. Maybe I'll get to stay on your bus. Cheers 👍
@@matryderadventuresfriend, it's getting a face lift as the "bike bus" for riders next year. Set up best I can do.
I'm determined and have the lumber & cushion seats to build bunks in bus for riders here. Wash station, talk to my local bike shops for tools or whatnot. It's going to be the bike bus for rider's on the gdmbr.... I will post or list warm shower also
I like your voice and face and also very much like this format.
Good to hear! Thanks for watching 👍👍
Beautiful ❤️
Soooo peaceful 😊
I completely agree. It's a very relaxing straightforward video. Thanks 👍 o
Still the number 1 bikepacking video on youtube, i have watched the original four times now. 👍
Excellent 👍👍👍👍 Thanks for the continued support. Cheers 👍
Brilliant! Loved it. Those drone shots are amazing. Awesome work on the edit, Ross.
I'll take the drone to Mount Olympus Bro. That should be pretty spectacular.
Wow! Outstanding! Thanks for putting this together, and sharing Mat.
Glad you liked it. Ross did all the work this time. All I had to do is watch it. Cheers 👍
Of course, what we are all waiting for is the compilation of "unusable" morning shots!@@matryderadventures
There were quite a few. I think we'll be doing an outtakes video at some point.....
Thanks Matt, love the sensory-only experience!!
Good to hear. Does it make you miss the trail?
@@matryderadventures very much so, as all your videos do…but this one is special I think to all of us that rode the GDMBR as it’s the sights, sounds and serenity that made it so much of what it was, and will be always! Cheers!😊☀️🍻🚴♀️
I don’t mind the music I don’t mind your commentary, but this is a nice second video to watch of your trip.
Great feedback. Glad you liked it. Cheers 👍
This is lovely, I hope to follow in your footsteps and do the AT in the Spring of 2024 and then off to bike adventure. Thank you for the inspiration to move forward.
Excellent 👍👍. I'm envious that you have it all to come. The AT is tough but an incredible experience. Cheers and thanks for watching.
That was a great watch 👌, thanks very much to Ross (and Mat, I suppose 🙂) for this compilation.
Not having to turn the volume up and down, like on some other channels, makes it eminently more watchable.
Cheers 👍
I know exactly what you mean regarding volume. He's done a good job. Nice new avatar by the way.
@@matryderadventures music is fine when it's not loud, but watching someone cycling through the scenic countryside, birds tweeting and lambs bleating and having AC/DC turned up to 11 as background music just isn't for me.
Ah, the avatar, it's only pro tempore, a personal joke aimed at a YT troll I seemed to have attracted after a comment on another channel 😂
I've been lucky to avoid trolls so far. I feel a little left out....
@@matryderadventures oh, I'm sorry for the humble brag, I didn't mean to make you jealous...
Trolls are great toys, they can be quite fun to play with 😁
I'll find out soon enough. No doubt.
Love this! The sounds of nature & bike tires on gravel! ❤
Do you use any other cameras besides a GoPro? Beautiful footage!
It is a relaxing sound. I only used a GoPro and a DJI Mini 3 Pro drone. I'm constantly amazed at the quality you can get with such simple equipment. Thanks for watching👍
Love it! I’ve been missing the updates. You should have really continued on to Patagonia, lazy sod! Great new video though, even without your dry wit commentary.
I agree. I am a lazy sod. I should have stayed out there 🤣🤣. Cheers 👍
What an unbelivable adventure, the only issue I see are the Grizzlies
It was a worry. I only had positive encounters thankfully. It was an epic trip. Cheers 👍
Thanx for sharing. How many hours of raw footage did you produce?
I'm not sure exactly. I'll have to total it all up. I could guess at around 30-40 hours?? Ross would have a better idea. He might respond with a more accurate figure.
What a great ride. How long did it take you?
Right around 2 months. That's a medium pace and I'm glad I didn't rush. Cheers 👍
Something like that is meant to be enjoyed and not rushed. Fantastic adventure. Lucky you! @@matryderadventures
Loved it, but I missed your commentary.
Thanks. The idea that people miss listening to me talk nonsense is fascinating. Cheers 👍
Matt, on your drone do you use ND filters ? The drone shots look really really good.
I don't use ND filters. I haven't really looked into filters for the drone. I might do some research.
They look great just the way they are. Don't have any for my Mini 4 and think I'll leave as is, thanks.@@matryderadventures
What is cell service out on the GDMBR like? Also, did you bring a satellite phone?
Cell service is very patchy. We could go days without any service at all. You can usually get WiFi from smaller shops/gas stations etc. I took a satellite messenger but not a satellite phone. It worked great.
Fcuk, you are so brave! 👍
Thanks. I pretend to be a lot of the time.
How many days?
About 62.

Thank god there’s no music. I can’t stand bike packing videos with someone’s playlist running all the way through it. My theory is if your gonna have music then fade it in sometimes and keep it instrumental. Music with vocals just ruins it 😅
I agree completely. We half considered some instrumental music on this one but rightly decided against it. You are right about vocals. Most UA-cam stock music has such lame lyrics. Cheers 👍
Love the drone shots. Please consider making a video showing us how you do that. May have to add a drone to my travels.
Nice video Matt. The drone I assume makes a lot of noise so you overlaid the footage on quieter video/audio? The quality of your drone video is amazing.
I don't do any of the editing (luckily) but I know that's what Ross does. It's an incredible little device. Pretty tough too. I flew it into a tree the other day and it's still ok.
@@matryderadventures. Thanks Mat. Sorry for continually adding an extra T.
Thanks for the quiet 🤫. I turn off the sound if a video has someone yammering on about every leaf along the way. It’s nice to see more of the trail from a rider’s perspective. Eventually I expect to see all of it before riding it. 👍☮️🌞🚵🩵
'Yammering on about every leaf' 🤣🤣. You'll love it when you make it out there. Cheers 👍
