My biggest railway station is of 28 platforms. Divided by two divisions: Eastern and Western. Each division has 14 platforms (8 for suburban trains and 6 for high-speed trains).
We use this design in real life in the Netherlands where the cross section is also a perron, and we label those as 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, it's mainly so if IC comes it just uses the whole station lenght if the sprinter comes (a stop train) it uses a, b or c and then 3 sprinters can fit into perron
Improvements i use: Have the mainline inner segment be full length for high speed and capacity, have only 3 tracks and delete all the middle one as you can then get a more smooth curve out. Also I tend to only build them 2 sets of platforms on the smaller side.
@@Hushey I never been to Sheffield but looking at the satellite photo, Upsala station looks a bit more simular, but it lack the bypass track and its also asymetrical. (so it kind of sort of have a bypass track on one part of the platform)
@@Hushey I don´t know if it is that way in most countries. But in Sweden we have regional trains that just goes to the next region border. Upsala is a region border between Stockholm Region and Upland region. So all the regional trains stop and turn a round, that is why they got the double stop from each side. And the main passing rail are for express train. So there is one passing rail in each direction for long passing trains and one for short. North of Upsala starts the main region of Norrland that is sort of Sweden's answer to Alaska, so there is very few long trains that goes there. Typically only night train. Most of the express trains are only 4 or 8 carries. But Upsala carries a lot of traffic, partly because its close to Stockholm, but partly because its a university city
@@matsv201 interesting yes. Sheffield is very much a different setup. The geography dictates that all middle of the country trains go in or near. Just for comparison New York Penn Station has only 11 platforms, and that’s literally the busiest train station in the USA
