i think the community is pvp or coddled pve. people say they want difficulty but then don't like it when they die or lose gear. being a server admin for years, trying to balance out the settings to players is impossible because they all want different things. play the game, broken or not, or don't play it. that's why i play other games like Icarus, 7D2D, Div2, etc.
i think you nailed it, if you have a larger playerbase server, you'll have challenge that comes from the players, not so much from NPCs. when you have a smaller community you'll have challenge more from NPCs, not players. I see nothing wrong with looking at things in this perspective because it makes total sense. The problem is player expectations where they want everything shaped around their feelings, and don't really care about playing the game that has been developed.

People seem to forget this is a very small dev team that has recently started growing. They also lost development time due to covid and its restrictions, which were quite heavy-handed in eastern Europe, from what I understand. People seem to think everything is done at the snap of the fingers, but anyone with half a brain can see progress is being made even if slowly. I would prefer slow and correct rather than fast and more bugs with terrible content. They have been guilty of the latter a few times, and it bit them as the community raged. The only thing I hope for right now is fixing the cruiser engine sound. It has no depth of sound during acceleration or heavy throttle input. It always sounds like it is at a steady cruising speed with no pitch variations due to throttle.
The more players the less puppets and the less players the more puppets. Is that something from the current update? The server I'm on still hasn't been updated. I'm usually the only person on the server and there's not nearly as many puppets as there used to be. I'm also on a server with increased puppets. I used to have 8 puppets in the B2 airport Quonset huts. Now there's 4 max. I used to have an airfield full of puppets. Now I have to drive around to find any.
@@RayKit I just know about the server I'm on and the videos I watch. Before the rework started on the puppets I had a lot of puppets. I was killing over 100 at the B2 airport when I was getting my 30k puppet kills Steam achievement. Now I see very few outside and not too many more inside.
@@RayKit I'm not sure how many people are on the server but, the majority of the time I'm the only player on it. There was one time there was 2 or 3 other players.
I've died a lot of times in Scum. Even when a bomb puppet silently rounded a corner and blew me up or jumped off a roof in front of me and blew me up I didn't complain about it. Even when they piled in on me in the guard shack at the Radio tower and beat me to death. I didn't like the one time an invisible drop blew me my tractor and everything else up.
It's a bad system, and people just don't enjoy it, sure not everyone doesn't like it, but enough dont that it should be a concern. This is a great video with great explanation, but nothing in here changes that fact. Many games on more limited engines with similar map sizes are able to deliver an engaging and immersive pve and pvp experience. Experiments can fail and should be learned from, not boxed and pushed through.
There are many games about but none like scum. As stated. They're not completed or finished. To maximise the end result we need to be testing this during the development of the game. What matters is 1.0 not before.
The fact there is still the samr bugs as .05 that have no been fixed and they continue to add stuff to the game before fixing the original issues and release dlc content speak volumes of were the devs minds are at. Ambitions will be the downfall of this game
Think of it like this. Nothing and nobody is perfect. We are all in development, if you will. People change, cars change, engineering changes, tech changes... That's why we have new things every other month. Scum is the same. And we just got to hive it time. I love where it is and where it's going. But it will take time. Give it a go and if you don't like something come back after a while and see if it's still there. Maybe they change it or remove it or add another aspect to the game that supports that function or aspect you didn't like, but it will change. Just give it time.
If they stopped you from hoarding thousands of pieces of loot that has to have a major impact on the performance. As for the “spawn” the npc’s should already exist pretty simple nothing should pop into existence they should already exist. Also this has to do more with money than them doing things no one has done before. World of Warcraft could have thousands of players on a server with all the loot and mobs and there can be some lag but it’ll work itself out. 64 people causing servers to become unstable doesn’t seem like they are doing ground breaking stuff. I love the game but other than the metabolism system nothing is new? Guns, mobs, loot, pvp, flying, npc’s. Nothing new there. I think they are trying really hard to recreate the wheel.
Conclusion: The engine can't handle the vision. So the game are in trouble, serious trouble. If they can't make it work the way the players want it it will fail at 1.0. If old players don't like it, new players wont either. And then it will be dead in a year or two. Same story as Miscreated..

you can make all the excuses you want but we were supposed to have features like functional base-building and raiding YEARS ago and they still don't work. These devs are not developing this game like it's an active early-access title, they are developing the game like there are no players and there's no community to maintain. They will utterly break the game multiple patches in a row without regard. These developers have repeatedly released patches that devastated the game with issues like ZERO items spawn ANYWHERE and NO loot drops from ANY container. The infection system on release would give you fatal infected burns for wearing a sweater in a warm climate. I understand they are literally paying you money to say this stuff but it's time to stop making excuses for these developers
Who says I'm getting paid? Why make assumptions that are complete and utter bs.. its early access. What else can I say. If you're not happy then wait it out and stop acting like it's a complete game. Uno reverso.
@anonymous-pr2sy remember.. we are the testers. No one really knows about scum yet in the grand scheme of things. Console will be coming also. This game is invisible right now. Wait until 1.0
@@anonymous-pr2sy its a setting, not sell quest items in traders. Now if its off, it should still be there to be sold and if it isnt then you're right its a bug. Check patch notes
@anonymous-pr2sy base building was never intended in the original thought process for the game. It was introduced later as a add on rather than something that was thought about from the start because players became vocal about wanting it. They had to work it in the programming, and I think that is what has given the building system so many issues. Now people can horde so many items and the game has to process those along with everything else in the game which slows things down and uses resources for both development and server that could be used for other things in the game. It is early access, and it's being developed as we test and find the issues to make the game better at full release.
How funny it is.. Gamepires didnt invent squat zones encounters and spawning was done on modded conan first, as well as a couple indy unreal games. SMH Cant even say their system is a good version of zoned encounter spawning. Whats hillarious is to hear you play schil pretending that they created shit modders have been doing for the past five years now on unreal. Listening to you finally admit that gamepires cant change h realities and limitations of the unreal engine felt good man..

I understand they are literally paying you money to say this stuff but it's time to stop making excuses for these developers
the most recent patch broke all ability to buy items at traders and they refused to accept or admit it was even a bug
Clickbait "Exclusive Dev Insight". All I head is your monologue.
Not click bait when it's from a cofounder..
Blah Blah Blah Servers MMO Blah Blah - but Raykit, SCUM IS NOT an MMO (MASSIVELY multiplayer online game). SCUM IS an LMO (LIMITED multiplayer online game).
64 players is not massive, it is limited small player count. BUT, I'll lay a Pound to a Penny that the majority of games are single player and not multiplayer. I'll also gamble a Fiver to a Penny that the majority of servers are private and restricted access for groups of four to six players. The Devs need to acknowledge this and move on.
Careful, don't be a keyboard warrior on here or the UK police will come get you. 😆
