Good timing James with the video, I did my first run in the woods with the dog in my new Timp 4s tonight, I really like them, good lockdown, very comfortable, light and good ground feel. I had planned a pair of Lone Peak 7s, but I’m glad I got these, they really work for me.
Glad to hear your new love for the Timp4😊 I am a big fan of that shoe since it came out and it is a permanent member in my rotation (4 pair now), together with the Mont Blanc (also 4 pair) and a bit lesser the Lone Peak (3 pair). However, for racing and more technical stuff I stick to Mont Blancs, but the Timp4 is just a perfect "jack of all trades" shoes for various terrains, roads etc. as you stated it. It all around a balanced shoe and it rounds my 3 pair shoe rotation perfectly up. Have fun with it and enjoy!!
Glad to hear it's working out for you. Timp is one I've still never tried. I haven't run much on trails lately. I have the Superior 3.5 and 4 and a Lone Peak to choose from when I do. I also couldn't resist picking up another Xero shoe...the Mesa Trail special edition w/ the Born to Run logo. Haven't tested it on the trails yet but it's quite comfortable just walking around in. Still like to mix in the minimal shoes.
I switched to these last minute. Put 7 miles on them right before I did a 50 mile race in them. I love these. Idk what it is. Everything just works about it and nothing gets in the way
The Timp 4 is my first Altra and I absolutely love it! I do agree though that it’s beginning to suffer slightly now the trails are getting wetter and muddier so I am looking for the next level Altra shoe for our wonderful UK winter muddy trails. Any recommendations?
The Olympus definitely has more grip, although can clog up with mud ,.. the Mont Blanc is great - love it - but unfortunately the grip wears quite quickly (.but then can be used as a road shoe) … the lone peak is their classic and the 7 has an improved grip for sure. The superior is fun, minimal but not grippy in wet . They did have the king MT which hands down had the best grip of all but discontinued it …. Try the Olympus if you liked the time!
Yeah, it´s always a struggle with the Mont Blancs between loose feel and pain. Would you recommend to go down half a size in the Timp 4, like LP 6 and MB? Altra should sponsor you, I bought so many shoes after watching your vids :)
Great now my favourite altra shoe Still working out laces seem to go back further than loanpeaks Olympus put pressure on top foot plus tongue slips down ,cushion about perfect for me ..Olympus bit heavy
Totally agree … they are a great shoe / the only wish I have is that I would like to see maybe a sock style liner as always get a lot of debris and grit down the side of the shoe!
Im sold after watching this video James. This is exactly what Im looking for! Many thanks for putting this one together 👍
Cheers Phil: it’s a good one

Ah, that is perfect timing ! Glad you like them too Innes, it’s a good one.
I just ordered the Timp4 looking at this review, James, hehe! Thanks! Best wishes!
It’s a good one … I think (for me anyway) it’s much better than the Timp 5 … enjoy !
Thanku for the review .I ummmed about tiimps. Got then and love as a summer trail
Perfect name for them.. “summer trail” (not good in winter ❄️ 🌧️!) thanks 🙏

Thanks Yann, I totally agree with you on all your points… it’s a jack of all trades and yes, for more technical stuff the MB or LP is better

Sounds like you have quite a lot in the mix already! As said, it’s a safe shoe - and great for road to trail …
Cheers Brian
Good on you for giving it another go James. Great timing like you said. Nice little update mate thanks for sharing! 😎🤘
Cheers Ben! Appreciate you stopping by, especially as a Hoka fan!

That’s sounds about right ! Simples !

Sold!! Great review
Hope you enjoy it! It’s a good one..: that said the timp 5 is out in a few months
The Timp 5 is gonna be interesting. I've seen rumors of a Vibram outsole.
That would be great … 👍
James, I agree. The Timp4 is a very good road to trail shoe.
Thanks !

Thanks, pls let Altra know !! No, personally there’s no need to go down 1/2 size like the mb and Lp, for me they work perfectly at my uk 10.5
I wear same size as my lone peaks. I could go up half a size but this size works too
@@movemorenowjames Thank you guys for the reply. Have a great weekend!
A comparison video between the Wildhorse 8 and the Timp 4, might be a great idea!
Ok… thanks !
Hey James, slightly off topic but what are those glasses you're wearing? Looking for recommendations on a decent pair for everyday & running. Cheers
Hi; those are made by OXEA , I bought them in Morzine (skiing) last year … not sure how much that helps
Great now my favourite altra shoe
Still working out laces seem to go back further than loanpeaks Olympus put pressure on top foot plus tongue slips down ,cushion about perfect for me ..Olympus bit heavy

What about your Pegasus Trail 3? They're the ultimate road to trail.
It’s a cool shoe but the drop is a little too high for me at 10 mm I think …
Interesting, how does the sizing come up? I love Altra the only make I run in, but they can be frustrating with sizing
So I stayed with my usual uk
10.5 for these … the lone peak and Mont Blanc I had to drop 1/2 size to 10… for me, this worked perfectly
Loved and hated my Timp 4 because they only lasted last than 4 months... Altra needs to address its quality..
It’s a very good point … quality and longevity are nt on point.
Thanks
Have 2 pairs of timp4 green with 228 kilometres and orange 56 kilometres on them love both but green feel better
Thanks Chris, I know how colours make a difference!
