Trump has cinched the election. He's got the sympathy vote now. The shooter's name was 'Crooks' for Pete's sake...
I'm going to watch both no matter what you tell me :-D
Sort out, your trolls.
These “people”, can not be helped.
Maybe this proves that the left are the anti-democratic ones and not the right.
Waking up sad and scared again this morning in America, but glad to find you here.
Thank you for your words of wisdom, Vlad.❤
"Crisis doesn't always mean collapse" is strangely comforting, despite the circumstances.
it makes dangerously complacent. "Not always" means still "but sometimes". And that is too often!
@@Burkhard_Ehnes "complacent"? I dissagree. It just means we should not panic because that would be no help to anyone.
@@Burkhard_Ehnes very true. People keep believing that everything won't be "that bad" until it's too late. Happend in the Weimar Republic, ist happening now in the US (and happened to a lesser extent when Trump became president).
The problem is that crisis _can_ mean collapse. And it might mean collapse today. We just don't know.
I’m a little bit older, but I remember when it wasn’t so much hatred between the political parties. People love to hate more than they love democracy. Democracy is definitely under threat.
I've only heard threats from the right side, though. People on the left don't just randomly call for shooting their opponents. Whoever this was does not represent the left.
Important to instill that trump brought this horrible thing upon himself.
@@PokemonGeezer ah yes! that will certainly bring democracy back from the brink. Brilliant!

Conspiracy minded people on every side will go wild over this.
Yes they will, the conspiracy to steal the election in 2020 for instance, the conspiracy to impeach and arrest Donald Trump to get him out of the race, the conspiracy to cover up the election steal by the Biden Administration, and finally a last desperate attempt to get rid of Donald Trump so that he does not become president again, these are all conspiracies, and can you really blame us for being so called paranoid after all this?
"Sir, I'm going to need you to account for your whereabouts at the time of the incident...and, a credible witness who can support your alibi" ~ Conspiracy Minded Person
@@thomaskalbfus2005 But Trump did use violence to try to overturn the election. And he's committed various other felonies as well, including r@pe, falsifying business records, and so on. Why are you siding with an unbeliever, a three-time divorcee, someone who cheated many times on all of his wives, who bragged that he grabs women by the pussy, who brags that he hosts child beauty pageants so he can go backstage and see naked children. He's the anti-Christ.

@@hillbilly4895 So you think its just an amazing coincidence that someone tried to assassinate Donald Trump at a time when he was seeking the office of President and at the same time a bunch of lawyers and district attorneys are looking for crimes, they can charge him with to get him out of the race, and oh yes they impeached him twice, once while president and once again after they left the office, and this after such an unusual and wide swing in election results in November 2020 when at first results were widely in favor of Donald trump then swung widely in favor of Joe Biden in all the key states he needed to win to become President, how lucky for him, and no doubt he was just waiting for Donald Trump to expire so that he could just waltz into his second term as President uncontested!

So kind!
absolutely a no-no. This is totally not acceptable. Next thing you know, we will all be wary of windows.

(no-no)^-1
It's also so difficult to talk about politics like a game of tennis, because so many people see it as a matter of life and death now. And in cases like Ukraine, it's literally a matter of life and death.
I myself have found myself being even more enraged by Mearsheimer and his followers lately. I've ended up coming close to posting things about him I'd regret later.
Thank you, Vlad. Thank you for saying it and for saying it in a way that allows sharing this video in mixed company.
Vlad... this was a brilliant message and exactly what Americans need to hear. They should broadcast this message on repeat for the next week!
Thank you for your calm and rational thoughts in emotionally overloaded times.

We all need to be so careful about the way we talk about this event.
Important reminders! Thanks Vlad! You're great! Keep it up!
Vlad, you look good and healthy. Hope you are feeling as such. Love your analysies. Rooting for you.
Vlad, you're an absolute mental anchor. I just want you to know how much I appreciate the clarity of your message.
I have no doubt that my mental state would have been quite different had this attempt had a different outcome. I have so much more uncertainty about the future now...
For better or worse, we're here now, and please know that I take great comfort knowing you'll be here as the voice of reason and reassurance that the world will still exist tomorrow.
Thanks
Thanks Vlad for your rational and wise message, let’s not play Putin’s game …
Thank-you Vlad, for the timely discussion. 🤔 I was wondering how to form politics around the Center, rather than polarization.
Thank you, Vlad. This was once again calming and reassuring and very well said super important message. I'll be sharing this video wherevef I can.
Great video, a Canadian who couldn't agree with you more on this topic. Democracy has to have tolerance and bounds to work for fairness. Respect between parties must be there. If it gets eroded you end up with the current regime in Russia.
Sure. But what about the Free Rider Problem? What about people who demand tolerance without giving any?
That's Trump. He makes all these claims on the protection offered by social norms, without EVER extending the same to other people.
This could maybe just be the occasional cost of business if Trump were not literally creating a political culture out of that practice. I mean, that Noemi woman just wrote a book bragging about killing a puppy, just in order to court his favor in the running mate competition.
This is why younger generations despise democracy. It's lost the will to enforce minimum standards of behavior. To them, following the rules is "for suckers".
This video is sad. The fact that a person would have to make a video a say that assassinating a candidate for the presidency is bad is quite the statement on where politics has gotten to.
Yes, I've watched many of Vlad's videos, and he knows what he's said about Donald Trump, and this event is a sort of nightmare for him. Look I support Ukraine, I know Donald Trump has been a skeptic of aid to Ukraine, but Joe Biden after his last debate really should not be President of the United States, he may have been supportive of Ukraine, but there are other issues that must also be considered, this assassination attempt is the act of someone desperate I think, someone who doesn't think Joe Biden is going to win, and so he or she decided to take such matters into his own hands.
You know, some peopole are talking about female male private parts..
@@AS-np3yq Why are you trying to change the subject to something unrelated to the assassination attempt?

Thank you...I needed this ❤
I am a public school teacher in the United States. Specifically, I teach 7th and 6th Grade History & Social Studies, and I have an immense difficulty with these events in the United States as they intensify, for several reasons.
1. As an educator, communicating these events to my students is going to be troublesome on a human level. Partly because there are students in my population that support Trump by virtue of their parents, and partly because the overwhelming majority of my student demographic dislikes this candidate. As an educator, I am meant to remain neutral and unbiased while presenting this event as entirely negative to students that are trans or migrants (I teach in central Texas). Despite this, I know that there will be students come August when our school year begins that will champion this moment, and cheer for a repetition.
2. As an educator, I also must balance the reality that there are elements who desire this event not be spoken of in any capacity. That we erase this history, and treat it as a nonfactor in our society, where the reality is that it is not all that uncommon in liberal democracies, despite our ignorance to history. This despite my duty as an educator and historian to temper this information and deliver it to my students in a responsible manner. I worry that we will see another or multiple attempts on either candidate as time passes (and this is with my "5% more") and I will be in the position of explaining to my students that this is not how Democracy should function, despite Trump's repeated calling for the same or similar reprisals on his detractors quite publicly.
3. Personally, I am not particularly distressed by the attempt, despite my own separate mind as as advocate of democracy and peace decrying the action. This is a person that has stated that my own views, my own person, and my profession are the actual "enemy" of this country. My profession has been targeted at the federal and state level, and I have parents that question whether or not the facts I teach are actually "facts." I have to stand in front of my students and responsibly say "this is not acceptable in a Democracy" while knowing full well that this man would allow some of his supporters to lynch me, by their own words, and spread lies about who I am and what I do for a living to further their own (and his) political agenda.
This will prove to be an incredibly divisive episode I worry, Vlad. Thank you for an ever eloquent and moderated response to the goings-on in an irresponsible superpower.
Much love, from Texas.

@@tonyennis1787 You got that far without complaining? Wow.

There is an important thing we don't talk about: the polarization is amplified by how social media algorithms push it in our faces. Compared to back then when most of the stuff you saw was your friends' vacation in recent years you see friends commenting angrily on a news site's feed. Or a slickly edited political half truth comes in as a short video.
Part of the problem of polarization is that there are no alternatives. According to Republican voters all other candidates were unfit to be presidents; it's all or nothing.
Thank you!!
This is a fabulous video, Vlad. ❤

thank you Vlad ; for the salve. Healing thoughts in a critical moment
@ Vlad You are a better man than I because my first thought, albeit in the mental fog of switching on my phone at 6:30 am, was ‘Damn’ and not in a good way. However it did set me thinking about a sort of historical parallel. You will be familiar with Senator Huey Long but for the benefit of others he was a Trump-like US populist politician in the 1930s, albeit a Democrat, who was assassinated when contemplating a challenge to the not-yet-sainted FDR in the 1936 election. One of the great what-ifs of US politics.
Thank you.
What's amazing about the USA and other western nations is the fact they're unashamed of having debate and divided opinions within their own governments. What places like China, Russia, North Korea would find totally embarrassing for their 'image', we just fully embrace. It's something to be very proud of, for the most part.
Underrated comment on this thread.
Why are you even connecting this 3 countries
China , North Korea and Russia have very little in common
@@goenzoy712 Because they all do not allow openly questioning their govts.
Yes, but not when one part goes so far to be a threat to democracy. I do not see that in Europe as much as in US. In Europe right now Germany has a socialdemocrat leader, a labour leader in GB, a liberal center right leader in France. Wow that is very similair to Trump. In my country it is a center right government that is so ordinary and so very far from Trump. US has a specific problem and comparing to much more functional democracies and saying they are equally bad is a false comparison. I hope you make the right decision and bring your country back from crazy.
You should be very ashamed of American politics. You mean to compare European politics to China and Russia.

I think it is far too early to assume that this event is caused by sides. There are enough scenarios that could have played out the important thing is that the two sides affected politically do not see this in a binary way. We really know nothing about the cause of the event and maybe it will be very hard to unravel exactly why. For the time being I am saying the individual who fired the weapon is responsible for his actions. And that any number of things could have led him to do it.
