    Thank you. There's not enough serious learning materials out there for this instrument. Honestly, in English, I've only managed to find one method book for melodica and it's very basic. I'm glad to see tutorials like this and I hope you make more. Any breathing or articulation/tonguing videos would be greatly appreciated!

      Hey, you're welcome! The best jumping-off point is Melodica World (facebook.com/groups/melodicaworld or melodicaworld.com/). That said, I agree with you, there is not much written material- there are some decent video tutorials though. Maybe you could say a little about your level of play, what other instruments you play, etc.

    THANK YOU! WOW! I am a harmonica player who uses melodica to give visual clues for my students. I use melodica rarely on gigs. This is the most exciting thing I have ever learned on melodica!

      You're welcome!!! I likewise had my mind blown when a friend picked up my new melodica and bent notes on it. Stay tuned for my "How Does a Melodica Work" video in the coming weeks! I hope to follow that with a "How to use Circular Breathing on a Melodica"!

    Thank you! I just ordered my first melodica, but I've been playing other things (flute, mandolin, fiddle, more), for most of my long life. I'd heard some players bend notes, but had no clue how it's done.

    Thanks for posting this! I could only bend notes occasionally before, but now after understanding that you need to increase the amount of air.. wow, so much easier and more consistent. Also the two finger tip was really helpful!

    I told my friend you can't bend notes on aa melodica and then he sent me your video. It sounds like the theme from "Once Upon a Time in the West." I also told my friend you can't control the volume. So, I expect to wrong about that to.

    Una MELODICA de tres octavas. Para mí es la más indicada para mis interpretaciones. En Buenos Aires es muy difícil de hallar.

    Nice tutorial! After some practice, have you been able to bend notes fluently, even with respectable speed, while playing or does it always still need to be kind of slow and careful?

  • @ChrisM-mu8rc

    That was helpful. I did not know it could be done. When or why would you bend a note on a Melodica ?

    • @dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860
      @dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860  2 роки тому

      Hi Chris, Bending notes can add some beautiful expression to a song, especially when playing something bluesey. That's why harmonica players do it all the time. Check out my playing here: ua-cam.com/video/zjFDJGCNmDs/v-deo.html

    • @dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860
      @dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860  2 роки тому +1

      You're welcome! I find it much more difficult to bend the black keys, since the keys are so much shorter. So I usually just bend the white notes!

    Could it be possible add an attachment like trombon or keytar (almost as shape) to control the air flux so the player can perform these bendings with more common technique (?)

    Hello Sir, your tips on how to bend notes was amazing. Thankyou so much. Shall appreciate if you let me know the brand name of melodica used in your video. The stainless steel body is good and sturdy. Pl share the brand name. Many thanks from Dr Milind Thakur from India.

      @dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860  Рік тому

      Thank you Dr Milind! I am playing a Hammond Pro 44XP. It is a relatively expensive instrument. The body is actually plastic like most other melodicas but it has a nice sheet metal cover.

    When you are blowing harder to induce the bend, are you keeping the size of the space inside of your mouth constant? or is that space getting biggre as you blow harder?

    • @dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860
      @dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860  Рік тому

      I think I keep it constant.

      @richardroysleigh Рік тому

      @@dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860 I'm just curious. I did a video on bending notes on the harmonica and the principle seems to be different. It has more to do with the size of the space inside of your mouth than air pressure.

    • @dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860
      @dr.melodicadavidbrancazio8860  Рік тому

      @@richardroysleigh Oh! I think I may have watched your video. (Can you send a link again though?) That's a good point. That is definitely true for a harmonica, and it is definitely a different principle. I think harmonica bends are caused by a combination of resonant air chambers (altered by the size of the mouth cavity) and possibly also the directionality of the air (also altered by the mouth cavity). In a melodica, changes in the mouth cavity size are a much smaller portion of the overall air cavity, and have a much more subtle effect. The bending can only be accomplished by partially depressing the key to change the size of the air outlet, while changing the air pressure. I don't understand yet why this works!
