As a fellow pianist, I love how you were able to jump down to play the bass line while doing everything else! I can barely play the two top parts together!
Of all the classic composers, all the genius of radiohead, nirvana, all the grunge and rock bands that came after...all the metal, jazz, pop and everything in between...nothing comes close...Nothing reaches this piece...
Thom Yorke has reach a good level as a composer... you should hear his solo career and his most recent song "Daily Battles". But of course, Reznor is brilliant.
this piece is LITERALLY ripped off from YES's "South Side Of The Sky"...of the album FRAGILE. (While NIN's piece is off their album THE FRAGILE, hmmmm!) THE GREAT PIANO MIDDLE SECTION: ua-cam.com/video/hBAauFYod80/v-deo.html
@@dumpygoodness4086 There are only 12 notes for fucking god knows how long now. There are only so many ways you can arrange them. I can guarantee you Trent has put them together in more unique ways than Yes.
Wow. Really impressed with how you juggle the 3 parts in the first phrase, and then I can't even begin to imagine how you do the polyrhythmic/polymetric stuff after the second bass line enters. Subscribed to your channel for the Dillinger songs, but stuck around for the Radiohead and NIN!
Thank you. This is one of the most emotional pieces I've heard. I've viewed La Mer as one of the most beautiful things to come out of any musical project ever, and this has breathed so much new life into it. If I had to describe La Mer, it'd be "Not know 'how' to feel, beyond the simple fact that you do feel, intensely." Listening to this made me feel that way, as I did the first times hearing the original and I can't thank you enough for that.
Thank you for sharing, Alex. I hope that this year will be healing for you. I've uploaded a revised recording of this piece here: ua-cam.com/video/vrhaRYw8vnA/v-deo.html
Love this. And it only illustrates what a great composer and musician Trent is. Beautifully interpreted and brought to life by a likewise amazingly talented composer/musician.
Amazing performance...You really captured the drowning in this song ..from the hope.. the despair.. . sinking under...the running out of air... When the repeating E-flat & D come in ... they really hit with time is running out... giving up... and finally ...peacefulness ripples thru...
I love everything about this!! The build up, the chaos, then the peacefulness at the end. Really feels like “The Sea”. I’m sure Trent Reznor would love this if he’s not already seen it. Subscribed!
I'm learning piano and I remembered this song, so I looked for a video on how to play it... but honestly, you just blew my mind with your skills. This is impressive and beautiful. Thank you so much for this cover!
This is thoroughly impressive as a performance, and musically it's everything a cover should be. Thank you for doing such a service to one of my favorite songs.
The ending of this playing the quiet parts is absolutely incredible, the technicality of the layered melodies is amazing, but that ending you played was flawless and for a moment I forgot I wasn't listening to the original song, wow!
You just blew my mind with how good you played this! I'm actually wanting to get into doing covers myself but I'm nowhere near as good as you are, thank you for sharing this awesome cover with us!
Et il est un jour arrivé Marteler le ciel Et marteler la mer Et la mer avait embrassé moi Et la délivré moi de ma caille À rien ne peut m'arrêter maintenant
Hey I was listening to a Piano rendition of Tool's Fear Inoculum and this is what came up after on Autoplay. In case no one has told you this in a while, this is beautiful. Thank you.
My god, how come this still does not have a millon views? Such a great job) btw this video was one of the reasons I started to play the piano last year
I've come to watch your videos after I found EST Golwrap, which is already excellent, but that version is just awesome. You probably have more brain hemispheres than the usual guy to render 5 patterns mixed together. Bravo
@Frederic Sargos Thank you, Frederic! However, I think that it probably sounds far harder to play that it really does (once all scored in 4/4 it's pretty easy to play it all together)
That song is so unconventional but at the same time so classical in its arrangement... I love NIN for this, Trent is a master composer. And that was an insane rendition... I feel like the arrangement could be corrected a tiny bit to eliminate the "false" sounding notes in the middle section though. In the original it doesn't sound dissonant because both notes are heard independently on opposite sides, but I think there could be a happy compromise by replacing maybe 5-10 notes in the single piano arrangement...
@HMan Thank you for such a lovely and thoughtful comment. I actually like the dissonance, but I think I made things messy by using a combination of too much reverb & pedal. A cleaner performance would go some way to clarify the harmony....
@@SequoiaSounds You should seriously send this cover to Trent via nin.com once your'e satisfied with it, he often picks fan-made remixes and he promotes the best of them, some even get a track on a remix album (Fixed, Further Down the Spiral, Year Zero Remixed, etc...)
I can't even comprehend how you played this.
@Joel Vogler
Thanks Joel!
Practiced prolly
The "brain separation " to do that is WOW. I'm good.. you are great
Thank you! But once written down I think it's not as complicated as it might sound!
This truly took me on a journey. I think Trent would be proud of this.
Thank you so much!
When I first watched it I thought that he looped some parts.........
@@qwertyuiip9132 :)
Definitely
Agreed
Realizing they're not using a loop to keep the consistent part going is just crazy.
As a fellow pianist, I love how you were able to jump down to play the bass line while doing everything else! I can barely play the two top parts together!

This is by far the most creative and amazing cover on UA-cam

Great dynamic bringing out the melody without overpowering it with the harmony
I must also mention your pedal technique is great, I enjoy the fact you don't let dissonant chords run together except where they should.
