Eddie Howe did so well in cruel circumstances. To challenge for Europe with such a depleted squad was commendable. Yes there were errors but his choices were so limited. using the same players 3 times per week obviously affected their condition regarding fatigue. Often we were treading water in the last 30 minutes and this was proved by points lost. I definitely want Eddie to be given the chance to progress the club. HWTL.
So if subs were put on minutes earlier would that have changed the game hypothetically?
Agree with you except his insistence on playing Dubravka who was shipping goals for fun and costing points galore. Karius got one chance, against Arsenal when the defence let him down. I don't care what Eddie saw from Dubravka in training. What we saw on matchdays was only not good enough but singlehandedly cost us Europe.

@@johngreen8996 Give over - Dubs also made some good saves plus there were some real cock-ups in defence - Trippier, Dummett - plus more defensive changes to deal with than hot dinners - Botman not firing...the list is endless. Think about Arsenal and Liverpool in the previous season with injuries to Saliba and VVD...it affected them badly! Get real!
From Bruce/ Ashley days, the club has finished 4th and 7th in the league, been in a Cup final, and played the likes of PSG,AC Milan and Dortmund in the Champions League. Not bad going considering where the starting point was ...

There isn’t a manager out there that is error free in there careers, they are only human after all. Pep Guardiola for instance, on Saturday he actually admitted he got it wrong, in what would have been a record breaking achievement. On that basis alone I think Eddie can be forgiven his odd error in what after all is a learning curve for us all. Good update Paul. Thanks for giving up part of your BH to bring it to us.

We were scuppered last year by the success the year before. Not to mention being cheated out of the champions league & Tonali etc.
We need to get behind Howe & give him a chance with a bigger squad. As a person you'd struggle to find a nicer one. Some of the football we've played under Howe is the best I've ever seen.
Agree completely. All managers can and do make mistakes. All successful managers also tend to be at the same club a long time. The outstanding examples being Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

Support your own team and or get your facts right. Half a season getting players start playing football again after mis management including insufficient training and certain to get relegated, Ist full season getting us up to fourth and Champions league, second full season playing in Champions league group of death we were the only group where it wasn’t until the final games that teams knew their fate. One gets to Semis and the other to the final then an unbelievable number of injuries to affect our already thin squad but we finish above Manure . £400 million ? Over 21/2 years less then most teams within the Premiere league . His Third full season starts in August .
Because everyone's brains nowadays are wired for short term instant gratification dopamine loops when success works the opposite of that.

I note that Villa have signed up Unai Emery till 2029, which a sensible decision given where all the top clubs are in terms of a decent manager, they simply don't exist, if Vincent Kompany joins Bayern Munich, then it just goes to show how highly rated Eddie Howe really is, we should be very grateful as to where we are, and who we have got (including Amanda).

I’m delighted as I heard Chelsea approached Eddie and NUFC over the weekend regarding the vacancy and was point blank told no .I have always believed PIF are behind Eddie if u listen to Our Chairman in documentary he said a manager who can bring team through lower division to Premier has some thing about him he apparently wanted Eddie as he done lots of back room checks.

Afternoon Paul. Thanks for another great update. Starting with Goldilocks from Manure. I would suggest that he looks at his own club first. Sir Jim Failure back handedly suggesting their manager may be leaving on the same day they win the FA cup. They have at the same time a potential CEO and a Director of Football on gardening leave due to a refusal or inability to pay their release fee. Half a squad apparently not wanted but with massive fees and even bigger wages. Some even on a rumoured £350k a week/£18m a year.. Rumours abound on who they are wanting to buy, on the cheap. And all this with a part owner whose record in the sporting would leave a lot to be desired. Then there is the rumoured debt of three quarters of a billion pounds worth of debt and a ground that is not fit for purpose and no money to upgrade it let alone rebuild it. Any government that would put money into building a new stadium would be committing political suicide. Chelsea may be in crisis, but we certainly are not.
Having seen my first match from the Leazes end in 1954 at 10 years old I can honestly say I have never seen a management and owners more open with the fans as our present bunch, and long may it continue. As for players leaving the three you mentioned could go for free for me. Looked up their wages and combined we would be saving £10m a year.

in top pro sports in the US, normally the "vote of Confidence" from ownership towards a coach/manager, usually means a death nail for the coach/manager. To me Amanda is a fantastic ambassador for Newcastle United. Great show Paul.

Last season's disappointment aside, there is so much to be proud of our club. From the owners to the manager to our best players, all have conducted themselves with class and dignity. As a fan, this is the best I've had it for over a decade.
Looking forward to next season, i think we have the potential to be a real dark horse in the race to the top.

We have some many fickle fans, The owners don’t have to come out and explain, but these fans need to be educated.
The explanation is totally reasonable & as you say, we all suspected that finance was the driving force. What I would say is that there was a lot of noise around the trip before it took place so why couldn't that statement take place then. No big problem though & before or after the trip, it is welcome.
Amanda and co are all doing an absolute amazing job . The best owners and management we’ve ever had .( besides Dan ashworth 😂) they care about our club and have big ambitions to drive this club forward . We love them as they do us . We’re all UNITED 🙌🤍🖤🤍🖤
No mention about the U-21 7-a-side tournament in Hong Kong where some of the players are who would have been at that match in Australia. I heard we were through to the Quarter-finals.

Newcastle announce departures...
Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie, Loris Karius, Jeff Hendrick and Kell Watts will all leave Newcastle United when their contracts expire this summer.
Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe said: "I’d like to say a huge thank you to each of the players leaving the club this summer. They have all given so much to the cause in their own ways, and I know our supporters will join me in wishing them every success with the next step in their careers.
"It’s easy to judge players by appearances and goals, but the contribution made to the club by Paul and Matt in particular really has been immeasurable over many years. They have had a huge influence on our progress as a team and as a club.

Our summer transfer moves are imperative,with my only real anxiety being if MCFC,etc. 'trigger' Bruno's release clause,but my trust still lies with Amanda & co. getting the right 'chess-pieces' in place. 👌👍

Amanda hit the nail on the head. With PSR we need revenue and from that sense £3M+ we earned was needed to drive up revenue so we can invest in new players.
With Tosin I think he will go to the club that can give him the most game time and assurances on that. I suspect with all the media reports on transfers into and out of MU and Chelsea it will be between us and chelsea though nothing is certain in football. With potential sales and releases this with give us money towards wages of new players.
The Goldbridge thing I think was tongue in cheek to show a so called crisis at Newcastle that other media outlets are pushing is not one when you look at Chelsea and instability at other big six clubs.
With Europe if Chelsea turn it down then based on what happenned with AC Milan then the conferance place goes to the next club in the league i.e us. In the case of AC Milan they failed UEFAs PSR rules and got a 2yr ban before starting their European campaign. However they appealed to CAS and the ban was suspended until the appeal was going to be heard.
They were allowed to played in Europe but then came to an arrangement where they accepted a 1 yr ban. This was implemented the next season after qualifying for Europa league. The European places then cascaded to the next teams in Seria A. If Chelsea decide to play in the conferance and then fall foul of the rules then the ban may not be applied straight away.
Only if Chelsea decide to withdraw to prevent a possible two year ban if they are in breach of UEFA rules the place will drop to us which i think is very unlikely.

Have you heard the latest about Manure re Europe though? UEFA may kick them out because of Sir Ratty's ownership of Nice who, having come 5th in that league, are also in Europe! That outcome will be Interesting, personally I believe the European Conference place is ours by rights, as is Europa league for Chelsea !

As a West Ham fan we had the same issue with Daniel Kretinsky, this year, as his a share holder at both us and Sparta Prague, I think you'll find the rule is that you can't be the majority share holder of 2 clubs in the same competition, in our case he owns 27%, but not the major share holder, Sparata Prague he is, I believe he owns 40%, not sure Ratcliffe is the major share holder at Manure believe that's still the Glazers, if that's the case they'll likely both be able to compete, only guessing as us and Sparta Pargue were both allowed to play in.the Europa League this year.

We were so ill equipped for the champions league way to many games with such a small squad I'm sure next season we will qualify for Europe I think villa will struggle the same as us next season with so many games new managers for Chelsea Liverpool and maybe man United we will have a stronger better squad for sure next season we are United 👊

If you look at how many games Chelsea will have to play in Europe even having to play qualifiers etc, we may be better off out of it. We gonna have new players to bed in and get used to system etc and it means we can concentrate on league
I’m the same Paul I’ve disagreed many times with Eddie Howe but still don’t want him to go I think or hope he will only get better and with new players and players coming back we will only get better HWTL
Eddie honestly could be the next Fergie. What's better what Fergie did at Aberdeen, or what Eddie did at Bournemouth? I would say they are comparable. Now Eddie's only had 2 1/2 years; and Fergie only won a FA cup in his 3rd season, it wasn't till his 5th season he won his first league. We need to give Eddie time and not judge him next season either or consider replacing him; Amanda did say it's a 5-to-10-year plan. If Eddie hasn't won anything after 5 years, then we can have a discussion about potentially replacing him; but not at the end of next season. The club is still on the ground level of this project, because we are still trying to make up for 14 years of neglect; but we are in the lift and pressed the top floor button and the doors have just closed and we are about to start moving. We have seen what Eddie can do over the last few years and it's been good to watch; could Fergie when he newly arrived at Man Utd from Aberdeen do the same?? Also, if the only difference between Eddie and Fergie is one FA cup, I'll happily accept not winning one FA cup in the first 5 years.

Eddie will have a huge amount of credit in the bank with PIF. Is there a better manager in the PL at improving players (and therefore increasing their value)? Due to PSR, we cannot go out and buy the finished article in terms of players. As a result, we have to shop at the next level down from the elite level, and Eddie will coach them to international/elite level. I'm sure, from a PIF POV, there is no one better in the role than Eddie.

Howe/ Potter / 'best' English managers are all too young right now for international management & the FA want long term managers & that's a big chunk of a manager's career. No need to worry at all. Why are people surprised...you have to grow the brand to the corners of the globe that we arent reaching. We had to go right away and not mid off season to maximise the chances of being all healthy on the start of next season. We will kick on but not until we can actually spend money and compete!. We are nowhere near the richest club about. We have the richest owners but we are not spending to improve like we have been told we will. Best to check gambling history on future signings . I'm available to be a scout and I'm very reasonably priced.
Chelsea don't need a CB they have Dissasi Badishille and Chalaba and more I think oh yeah Fofana as well.
Lack of EU football next season gives us breathing room to allow some older players to leave and so help with the squad refresh ... EU football would have meant contract extensions in order for us to meet the Home Grown quota for the squad.

Paul, my issue with the 1 game a week thing is that we have to learn how to manage 2+ games a week and know how to rotate. That’s where Eddie messed up last season, not all the injuries were due to that but a good few were and we can’t then get Europe next season and have a repeat of the season just gone
I hate to be contrary, but no mags fan wants rid of Eddie. He's been fantastic and anyone who can't appreciate that has no business wearing the stripes. In Eddie we trust.
Also, completely agree about next season. We've got a solid, if not scary starting 11 when fit. But if you only played bench players, we'd be relegated quicker than Sheff utd. We need some clearing out and strengthening our bench now. It was never gonna happen overnight. Give Eddie the finished product, then judge him on our performance. In the meantime, let's get our boys back on their feet and get stuck in. Let's enjoy the ride
I hope Eddie has a good season coming up and back him to do well but I can certainly see why others may think he's not the man for us, to suggest they aren't real fans is childish. Just accept that people have different opinions and support yours properly instead of trying to gatekeep supporting the club.

As much as I love Eddie, I just think Jose would attract the kind of players we need. I know it's hypothetical but being out of Europe we need something to make us attractive to players.

No one at Newcastle (Amanda included) seems to be concerned that fans in Australia were swindled out of their money. If Eddie Howe was going to field a team of U21s for the second game then it should have been advertised as such. People spent 100s and in some cases 1,000s of dollars on interstate travel and game tickets. All you lot in the UK are concerned about is the "poor old players" who had to travel. Amanda's response just highlights the pure greed of the club. It was all about the money and if fans in Australia got ripped off then too bad. They're on the other side of the world so why care about them.
