There’s a movie about the women who painted radium clock dials. Of course they didn’t know of its toxicity then but they would paint their lips and teeth with it when they went out at night. But they all got horrible cancer from that stuff. A lume that’s always glowing because it’s radioactive. I have a few tritium watches which use a radioactive gas to make them glow. It’s so mild that it won’t penetrate a piece of paper and it’s enclosed in quartz tubes so with the quartz, sapphire and stainless steel there’s 0 emissions a friend was curious and used to guide your counter and it showed nothing.
And this is why I love this channel.
With that thing you can just smile directly at the watch when you want to see the time at night

I was curious about when you wear your Seikos? They are so popular but I don't really understand the appeal. I did have an SKX009 modified with a sloped ceramic bezel insert and domed sapphire crystal, then put on a Strapcode jubilee bracelet. It's nice but I still don't really get it... Now the Grand Seiko- that's another story...

I bought a used watch on Ebay a few years back, i'm clueless on watch brands etc. But I looked at it recently and realized it's a Seiko. I was so pleased, anything made in Japan i'l buy with no doubts on quality.
I wish anything I bought was made there. I feel they pride themselves on the perfection, and anything less is dishonourable kinda! Really great attitude to have and I admire them for it!

I think they do use UV in teeth whitening. It just takes extended sessions. How brightly the lume lights up is not really as important as how long it lasts.. Not very long, in my limited experience. When I was a child many watched dials just remained bright. bc they had radium in the paint. There was a famous legal case regarding victims who got awful cancers from ingesting it. They would put the tiny brushes in their mouths to sharpen the tiny brushes. anyway... nice display.
those were the crazy days of Radium Girls. What a sad history.

I have a mate who has a an original first edition Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and he bought a Geiger counter to be able to make sure that and Radium he was being exposed to stayed within normal limits 😂 Geiger counter still screamed like a banshee when you placed it over the dial though. Fortunately the reading, while elevated, was still relatively safe. Wouldn’t want that crystal cracking though 😅

I do have a couple of UV torches, and I have tried the same... I have much cheaper watches (Steinharts), however although the lume in my watches does indeed fire up, (and it's very bright once charged), this effect only lasts about half an hour...so 30mins after having charged the lume, no lume at all, and can't read the time in dark... does anyone have a different experience to mine? My assumption is that "lume" is something that always works in the dark, so if I am out and want to read the time in teh dark, shouldn't need to carry a UV torch with me.....am I missing something here on what to expect from my "lume"? Thank you!!

@@sasemirevski the lume doesnt last forever, i sent my tag off to be serviced and they applied a new coat of whatever the lume is made out of to the hands and notches, works like a dream now

Robert , they're everywhere in the states. Walk into a Duane Reade or a Walgreens or anywhere they have all the shit for whitening your teeth. And hey... you get a free tube of toothpaste along with your Lume lamp! Win win!!

You should test them after one or two hours in the dark, and see who glow more
IDK how intense the flashlights are but you should be careful with your eyesight and under no circumstances let your kids play with it.

Geez Man, keep your watches away from speakers!!! I mean you just bought a Rolex!! Watches can be adversely affected by magnetism and may gain or lose time. It is important not to leave a watch close to magnetic objects for a long periods. In particular, cell phones, television and PC speakers, magnetic necklaces, handbag clasps, hair-driers, electric razors, magnetic parts of refrigerators are all magnetic.

i tried using LED lights for charging lume 15 mins and the lume icharge is gone for 1-2 mins and how long the lume lasts in this method?
