What a wonderful restoration. I used to use one very much like that when I was making sails professionally back in the 1970s. It didn't have any of the fancy decoration though - just the Singer name on a plain black machine.

Beautiful restoration, could you please make a video or short explaining how you reassemble and time the bobbin?

That came out nicely! The penny is charming in its quirkiness, but it looks like a knuckle-rapper. Ouch!

I wonder how big the differences are between the Singer 107 and the 20U. The 20U has the advantage that it is still built in China and therefore parts are readily available. But the 107 looks much more robust. I have restored a 20U. Wondering if I should restore a 107 if I find one. Haven't seen a 107 in real life yet though. Can you maybe tell what are the advantages and disadvantages of the 107 compared to the 20U?
And thanks for doing the videos. Enjoy watching them.

If the 20u works for you, stick with it. It has much more finess and usability than the 107, which is tough, but a bit of a tractor. I think the 107 is best set up to do one thing and left like that, as mine is fiddly to adjust, where as the 20u is tough and simple.

If you are still looking for/at a 107w, also consider a 143w if you run in to one. They are virtually the same. Good luck.

Yes it can, and I have often used it to preserve the look and patina of a favourite old machine.

@@sailingtessbesssewfarnorth1746 Thank you! I have been trying to have someone confirm that using contemporary clear coat would be okay. I'm rewiring a 201. The japaning is in very good shape and the decals still look nice, but upon cleaning the machine with sewing machine oil, the oil revealed all of the original shellac is severely crazed and I have removed most of it as the oil underneath it created an ugly haze.. I want to clear coat to protect the japaning, but don't want to use shellac.
      Blue machine is gorgeous!
