tony pereira but that’s the problem. The overwhelming majority of the current crop of consumers don’t care about fun to drive stick shift sport cars. They care about crossovers/trucks/SUVs. I guess there just aren’t that many consumers left that enjoy driving and want fun cars to drive

Does everything have to be a Turbo which you can't even reach your hand in there to do anything? Then there is the heat that comes with Turbo. He says the car is 3300 lbs. For such a small car what is so great about that? Doesn't your run of the mill 3-series BMW get to 3500 lbs?? Anybody really going to track a $57K car who doesn't make $200K+ a year???

Cars like these dont stay because it usually remains a highschoolers dream. But as we grow up and start families and work. It doesn't make sense to spend bandz on something that can barely fit two people. Let alone a family. Thats why these sports sedans and suvs are the market. Its the only reason why a company like dodge can make the cars they make and stay on top.

my amuse 370z vent is not just real but functional... What those thing do? just a hole.... It don't help with cool the break... Reduce pressure nor let the heat out... YOu can take it for so it a hole.... that reduce value of your car... since it mean you had a missing piece..

Kevin Schmidt Toyota apparently beat the engine pretty good during testing and it passed their standards so I think it’s probably good.
everyone will complain that the car is made by BMW, but to be honest, they went to the best possible car maker and this is a result of a wonderful partnership. Who else can make an inline six as good as BMW? Please don't say Mercedes... I mean, they could've given you the same type of car as Nissan and Acura with 500+ hp, but the car would've cost over $100,000. No one would buy that, just like no one is buying GTR'S and NSX'S. This car is attainable, fun, and has one of the best modern engines money can buy... Be Happy... And this is coming from a proud 335i owner whose had five Lexus and Toyota's.

I watched the fast lane car video for this car and they had the Japanese engineer talk about their side of the project, him speaking about it in-depth may have sold it for me even talked about some aftermarket touches for the future he even spoke about the blocked vent for a bit and the reasoning. Glad to see you review this car Matt you’ve come such a long way man! Keep up the good vids!
Thanks! Yeah it was very cool hearing the Tada-san talk about the project. Unfortunately we had to give the car back before it got dark, but I'm hoping to get one as a press car later this summer or fall and will definitely show the night lighting then!

There's lots of really good UA-camrs out there that explain how much input the Toyota technicians had in the vehicle. Just a shame when you read the comment on Supra videos, you get the usual ignorant BMW haters comments.

I dont mind the BMW straight 6 in this Supra. It sounds amazing!, however I still think Toyota should have had more of its styling in the interior of the car.

@@crewdawg16 It's very clearly not the same as the Z4 for people who have driven it, outside of the obvious things like the engine and interior design. Toyota may have used the same hardware as BMW, but what they did with it clearly set it apart from the Z4. I also don't see the problem with having a BMW interior. It's better than anything else Toyota can offer at this price range.
This car would be totally complete if they took off the Toyota emblem and just replaced it with "Supra." Reasonable price for such a hot car. Great review Matt as always.

What Toyota did is pure genious. The took what BMW, Improved it and made sure quality control was up to Toyota standards. 0-60 in 4 seconds for 50k. Those are fast numbers honestly. It's about the experiance of driving, the handling. Toyota was very clear about the car being able to handle more HP and how easy it was to tune. Toyota engineers directly said in the video that they wanted the Supra to be attainable to the general public. By working with BMW they were able to cut the price down to 50k. Bmw wins and Toyota wins. Does having a manual transmission make any better performance wise, no. They even said that. Will it make it a much more interactive ride? Yes. Who knows Toyota may introduce the manual version. Or you may be able to do a swap? Top it all off your getting Toyota quality sports car, which is almost super car status that offers Toyota care warrenty and you can even extend the bumper to bumper for 3k. Giving you full warrenty for a total of 6 years! The warrenty covers anything and every thing not related to wear and tear. I've experimented with them on several Toyota vehicles. They've covered. They work and worth their value. I'm really considering this vehicle! Also consider that you can maintain this car cheap! My buddy had a nissian GTR. The first 30k mile tune up cost him close to $20k! Using OEM breaks, tires, pads, oils on everything from radiator to diffs, fuel injectors. I was shocked. I'm sorry but I'm not that rich to spend 20k on tune ups for a Nissian GTR. Believe me I asked around for prices thinking he was bullshting. I looked at his Bill's and tallied up the numbers.
A lot of things hit 4 seconds 0-60 for under 50k. Honestly I think they went lazy mode with this car. They leaned on BMW far too much. Car should be a little cheaper also.

Nowadays everything is turbo'd and the sports car market is throwing 40K 400+ hp cars at our feet. Nothing in your comment takes down my statement.

For those complaining that Toyota failed to develop the new Supra on its own and/or that it lacks the pedigree of the fourth generation Supra, it's worth noting that Toyota's first great sports car, the 2000GT, is a much more obvious ancestor of the new Supra while the 4th generation Supra still bore marks of its direct ancestor, the Toyota Celica. The 2000GT was a two seat sports car with an in-line six engine sourced directly from Yamaha and an overall swoopy design clearly drawn from the Jaguar E-type. They didn't sell many but recent examples in pristine condition have sold for about $1.2 million. That's heritage.

When I heard that the Supra would be based on the FT-1 concept, I was so excited. I was so disappointed when I saw the results. So if I never saw the FT-1, I would actually appreciate the design of this car more but now that pictures and videos are starting to come out, it starting to grow a lot on me. It's 50k car that can hit 0-60 in 4 seconds. The best of Toyota and BMW in one car. I can't wait to see these on the roads.

The FT-1 in two words was RIDICULOUSLY OVER-STYLED. Way too much and trying too hard to be a Ferrari. Stop! Oh yeah, the new Supra in three words EVEN MORE RIDICULOUSNESS! I'd take a 370z Nismo any day. The 370z IS an edgy, world class, affordable sports car with a timeless design that traces back to it's legendary 240z heritage! Maybe next time Toyota, oops I meant BMW!

It's funny all the hate about "reliability" that this car is going to have. However people have failed to review all of the information Toyota has put out on this car.
For starters, Toyota took the B58B30 engine down to its base parts and tested everything extensively. They said they did this to make sure everything on the engine met their strict requirements for reliability. Then they "tweaked" the engine management to what they felt was the best balance for performance and longevity. This is the main reason the engine puts out less power in thee Supra then other vehicles running the B58B30 engine. Technically the parts are from BMW, but Toyota tested and verified everything would meet their quality control for reliability.
Besides the BMW B58 engine line has a great service record to start out with anyway, even before Toyota did their thing with it. Sure BMW has not always had a great track record with reliability... BUT that was NOT really related to their drive trains failing... BMW has had some "major" issues in the past, from cooling system failures, door handles breaking and not having cup holders. Of course there have been specific models that have had serious issues with electronics and other electrical issues, like tail light assemblies failing.
However vehicles that run the BMW B58 line of engines have been some of BMW's most reliable models yet. While BMW use to fall really short of the "average" reliability ratings, they are actually on par with averages across their entire line. Some models like the 2012 / 2016 BMW 3 series and the 2009 BMW 5 series have scored extremely high in their reliability standings.

@@whiteandnerdytuba So what if its a V8 or not? You're comparing the most souped-up mustang (apart from the GT500) to the most entry/basic level Supra. Mustang is a common car used in airport rental companies. Supra is on a sportscar platform from the ground up. Money has been invested in chassis and engine equally. Whereas for Ford, money has been spent more on the engine than on the chassis. Supra will have more hardcore versions coming out over the next few years. Mustang weighs 200kg more - for those who live on tight twisty roads, the supra will be the better car. End of. Pure Turbos offer a stage 2 hybrid turbo upgrade for thee B58 to 540+hp for 2k.

With a little more than half the power of the Z06 as well. I don’t mind the BMW partnership but what I do mind is the fact that it’s in Corvette price range without breaking 400 horsepower minimum. Great platform, looks fantastic, but dear god does it need more power to be truly competitive.

If love of they made a New Supra with a Targa roof. I always loved the look of the MK4 with the Targa off.
That transmission, with high torque at low rpms, and a semi-lightweight car, will give good 0-60 times....but the HP is too low. I bet that thing is gutless above 70 mph or so. No way it outperforms the new M2...I'm guessing it falls into Camaro V6 1LE territory performance wise. I think it just ends up in no man's land at this price point.

No special Supra feels especially in the interior, BMW parts. Might as well buy a BMW. Old Supra are pure Gold.

Ehhh I will deal with the face, because it has one hell of a arss. I love the rear of that car. But I will say over all im kinda meh on this one, thats not to say the supra's dead, just composition is tight.
I do hope it does well so we see more down the road, but I almost feel its riding on namesake.

Great video! Honestly they should have made an iteration of the LC500 be the new supra. The LC500 has the body of what a next generation supra would look like and it's a Toyota product plus that's how they did it in the past, the sc300 came out first then the mk4 supra came out based on the sc300.

People may not like the looks of the Supra but they can’t deny how good that engine sounds.
this transmission should be in q50 Red Sport and with that the car will show the real beauty of that VR engine, will be an animal!

You might as well say buy a light miles gt350 over all modern sports cars.
Huy Thai I wouldn’t go that far, as something like the Miata and GT350 are in different segments despite being sports cars. But versus the Supra, yeah I just think I’d save the $10k and buy a Shelby. God knows you’d never even use the radio.

Except Ford spent its own money, and used their own engineering team to make the Mustang. Toyota, went to BMW. Don't get me wrong it's great, but as a Toyota engineer I would be embarrassed.
@@cargueone1971 If they did not partner with BMW the car would be way more expensive and delayed a few years. There is actually a lot of differences in the suspension setups between the z4 and supra.
