    This is my favorite kind of content honestly. I love that this is a theme going around UA-cam - mindful purchasing. There is nothing wrong with collecting for the sake of collecting, but videos of this help remind me of my own goals and wishes for my collection.
    How long does it take you to edge a deck? What are you using? I feel hesitant to start, but I imagine that I'm just overcomplicating it as usual. 😂 Thanks for sharing!

      Mindful purchasing is so important, and I like the happy medium between shaming people who do collect a lot of decks while making people who don't feel like they're missing out!
      I use crayloa markers to edge most of my decks, and I'm not sure how long it takes because I do it in dribs and drabs... At least it's not like trimming a deck where you can't use it before all the cards are done 😂

    I enjoyed having Mystic Mondays in my collection for a few years - then, after I committed to using it for a few weeks/a month, I felt like I'd "finished" reading with it, like how someone finishes reading a book. It's simple & enjoyable to read with, but I felt like I'd outgrown it, to move on to other decks that are more detailed and study-worthy.

      I don't think I've put it into those words before, but I have had the experience of being 'done' with a deck. Totally like finishing a book!

    Honestly, your reasons for all of these are valid 😅 and I love these kinds of videos to see what doesn't work for others vs. what does! I have been tempted by the Rainbow Tarot myself, but I need to know what cardstock it is. If it's one I can't stand, I gotta dodge that bullet lol.

      Omg I hadn’t even begun to consider cardstock 😂😂

    I really like the look of the Erenburg Tarot, but it reminds me somewhat of my Morgan Greer, so I’m not sure I need both. Do I want it? Yes 😂 but I’ll see where my funds are in a couple months and how much Amazon has it for!

      Ooh I hadn’t considered the Morgan Greer comparison but now you mention it, I see it. One of the reasons I love my MG is for the close-ups

    I have and love Tarot of the Witch’s Garden but get why it’s not your thing. That said, my cozy, witch tarot is The Cozy Witch tarot but that’s probably not cottagey enough for what you need. I am in love with it though, especially when I use it with the Believe In Your Own Magic Oracle and my Self-Care Wisdom cards.
    In terms of MJ Cullinane, I’ve never liked her decks because collage just does not do it for me. However, I LOVE Raven’s Dream and Unfinished Business so I’m gutted to learn she’s not doing heck’s mass market anymore. I was also peeved at how she expressed it, that she was “delighted to announce”. Not really acknowledging it was a problem for those of us outside the US who can;t afford to pay indie prices for a deck and then almost £25 on top for shipping.

    • @TarotMagpie
      @TarotMagpie  7 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I get her reasoning for staying indie, but it's a real shame that it makes her decks less accessible for so many of us! Shipping these days is WILD.

    I have told myself one comes in, one goes out. I switched the Green witch for the Witch's garden, and I am happier with it, I like the art style more. But I rarely buy decks nowadays, because I don't really want to let go of the ones I have right now.

      That's such a sensible idea, and probably what I'll do at some point too

    I had the same thought process with the Halloween tarot. I also love a tarot collectables deck, but know I won't reach for it over the Halloween tarot in a tin so there's no point getting that one.

    the ehrenberg is great if you like pairing with more complex oracles. The Mystic Monday is not my art style at all but boy does it read like a dream. I appreciate you making this video though. I need to hold back on my deck purchases. it's insane the amount one can accumulate!

    I loved this video, thank you. It was enjoyable watching you work as you explained your reasons. You sound like that little voice in my head, "I don't need it, I don't need it..." lol! It's so hard, but finally I am letting that voice get stronger as I say 'No.'

    Tarot of Persephones Garden is one of my recent antihauls. I have 3 decks that contain most of that art already. Any new animal deck is gonna be antihauled. I already have too many. In general I have slowed down a ton on deck purchases.

    • @TarotMagpie
      @TarotMagpie  7 місяців тому +1

      Persephone’s garden is one I had to talk myself out of too! Totally gorgeous, but not totally necessary in my collection

  • @meloncreampuffs
    @meloncreampuffs 7 місяців тому +2

    The mind’s eye tarot is so so pretty. But I’d have to agree with Theia that it doesn’t need a huge box and the guidebook is disappointing. It doesn’t offer any nuanced explanation on the artwork of each card :/ I have it but never reach for it.
    If I were to talk to into one deck I think you would really enjoy Tarot of the Witch’s Garden! It’s a deck that has read well for me and the art is incredible and almost gives fae energy on some of the minors. The guidebook is incredible and has a lot to offer, and the linen finish is chef’s kiss. Granted, there are some court cards I don’t love (there’s a King that looks like Jesus imo) and some of the art is inconsistent. But I can overlook those things as I really love the deck overall!
    P.s. I really appreciate anti-hauls as they are sort of a reality check on taking stock of we already own and don’t need to buy more. 😊

    • @TarotMagpie
      @TarotMagpie  7 місяців тому

      A reality check is exactly what I wanted this to be!
      I will be honest, if I come across a second hand copy of the Witch's Garden I can't be sure I wouldn't get it, it's so pretty!

  • @caryj6562

    I feel like the repetitive courts must be a thing with that creator, as the Yule Tarot was the same 😕

    • @TarotMagpie
      @TarotMagpie  7 місяців тому

      That’s a shame! It’s a trend in a lot of decks and it’s just not one for me

  • @TheIlwin
    @TheIlwin 6 місяців тому

    When creating the Bee tarot they just thought - ok, no one ever likes courts anyway, let's just not bother with them ;) (kidding). But yeah, the courts are so weird here. Similar when people like you said and then suddenly those bee courts they're like - what the hell is going on. Obviously it's bee themed tarot but why it's not all courts then? (I know it sounds they would be hella same then, but at least it would feel more consistent. Also they didn't need to depict just bee on itself (like those courts are if I remember well), but doing different things but more zoomed in? (I think other cards are more like whole scenes) You know like a bee worker (don't know the english term) feeding a bee larva for Queen of pentacles? (not sure if it actually fits now, but that's what came to my mind now). I'm still kind of hesitating if buy or not though...
    And I totally understand what you mean with tarot of the witch's garden being beautiful pictures but not having tarot feel!
    I have The Golden Wheel tarot and I totally love it but I'm pretty sure that one of the reasons it speaks to me so well, it's because its Slavic nature and I'm from (and living in) Slavic country and so it often speaks to me through some very personal associations from my past. With that being said I don't mean that non-Slavic person couldn't use this tarot, it's just that for me it's not just another RWS clone :). And it IS gorgeous and beautiful :))

    The mass market Rainbow Tarot apparently has very crappy cardstock, unlike the indie version ☹️ Just something to look out for when deciding to buy it. Seems to be a growing problem with mass market these days

    I have anti hauled... Bee Tarot too... cute, love bees, but no. Green glyphs tarot... I love the Green glyphs Lenormand, but I don't need the entire set! Song of the grandmothers. I havecthe Gentle tarot and ADORE it... but Grandmothers, while lovely just didn't hit the spot for me really. And I tend to not pair decks from the same creators. Wanderer's tarot. I have modern decks and find I don't gravitate to them as much as I think I will. So I don't need another modern deck. 😊

    Yessss Kimberly Clark anti-hauls making it to tarot-tube is a perfect collision of worlds!
    The rainbow tarot is on my birthday wishlist, I tend to save MM decks like that for present ideas because they’re usually much less expensive than their indie (or increasingly, other fancier MM) counterparts. I feel similarly about the similarities with the queer tarot, but there’s something about the limited colour palettes that makes my brain so happy that it’s snagged a place on the wishlist, but my heart won’t be broken if I don’t get it.

    • @TarotMagpie

      Saving MM decks for present lists is so smart. I could so easily talk myself round to the Rainbow because the colours are delicious 🌈

    Witch's Garden is one of my "soul decks." It's a comfort deck and it's linen cardstock! It's a great reader :) But I get it! It's hard to curate a collection.

    really enjoyed this vid. Very true how we love decks and then we kinda don't... Like I love Erenberg concept too, it's great, love the art style and all, was soo gonna get it, but then I thought to myself: ' how much use is this gonna get realistically?' Right? That's exactly the thing, I love collecting decks but I want them to be a bit special so that they get to hold a special place and not compete with other decks I already have. Life goals!!!

    • @TarotMagpie
