So what’s the deal with this movie’s release? How many of you got to see it in theaters and who watched the premiere on TV? Apparently it was much more well known in the UK
This is one of those movies you rented from your local video store back in the day, never to be seen again. Secretly waiting for you to remember its existence at a moment's notice.
There is another family friendly movie about the Loch Ness Monster. "The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep." I adore the water horse; it's one of my personal favorite movies of all time. It's too bad people have either never seen it before, or some people have forgotten it.
This did actually get a theatrical release here in the UK. I went to see it, and loved it so much I bought the VHS as soon as it hit the stores! Gets me quite emotional too. So underrated and a 90s mini classic.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and seeing the plesiosaurs and how satisfying it was ^^ Really like that they're portrayed as animals instead of monsters in this movie
Man, having grown up with 'Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster', 'The Water Horse', and 'Mee-Shee: The Water Giant', this looks like it would have fit in nicely!
The Loch Ness monster is one of those monsters/creatures/myths I honestly forget about more than I'd like. The creature just doesn't come up much due to being Scottish, location specific, aquatic and the fact that Bigfoot is #1 on the cryptid list. All that said, I'd love to see something that puts Nessie in my mind with a solid stamp and I highly appreciate this recommendation, Klayton. Definitely going on my watch list, have a good weekend, brother.
This is a childhood favourite of mine. I even named my little sister after Isabel from this film. I didn't expect you to ever do a video on Loch Ness, Klayton. Nice work.
I first heard about this film from my teacher when I was a little kid. I was the only one in my class who took interest in hunting it down (I found it in my local video rental store) and watched it. That cave scene where you finally fully see the creatures gets me every time. Such an underrated classic. It saddens me that more people haven’t seen this film.
I definitely caught this on TV years ago and remember liking it a lot. Really cool to know it still holds up too! Another great video, thanks for shedding light on the classics!
Love this movie! I haven't seen this in a long time! I'll always remember the hit 1991 song by Rod Stewart, "Rhythm Of My Heart, playing at the end credits. It was very fitting for the movie.
This movie is one of my favourites. I used to have it on VHS, now have it on DVD. Good story, good actors, beautiful landscapes, beautiful music. I love the ending. I like to watch it over again.
Oh my GOD ive been trying to remember the name of htis movie for YEARS. I used to love it as a kid and could never find any trace of it online!!! THANK YOUUUU
As a 22 year old fan of dino/cryptid movie i actually remember this movie either from sy-fi or another channel and the memory that stuck with me the most was when they were gonna reveal the pictures and ends up being the drawings and people believed in them as much as real photos lmao , loved this movie thank you for reminding me about it friend
It was well known in France, released in theaters on june 1996 and released on VHS about a year later, then aired on TV until mid-2000s. Ted Hanson and Ian Holm were great in this!
I've seen this in the theatre by happy accident. We were there to watch _Independence Day_ and our younger siblings and our mom were to watch _Loch Ness._ But there were technical difficulties. The projector broke down and _Independence Day_ couldn't be shown. So since we couldn't drive home on our own, instead of a refund we swapped for tickets to _Loch Ness._ We've missed the first few minutes. But we just didn't have anything else to do than go watch that film that's already started. I don't remember it in much detail, but it was good.
Awwww THANK YOU! You just unearthed a long lost childhood memory… i actually remember liking this movie, pretty sure i saw it a few times as a kid… not sure why but my brain totally suppressed it. Very bizarre. So yh, thx a lot! Great reviews btw, keep up the good work 👍
Ok I had to shut up and actually watch this before full comment- I had only a VIVID memory of this movie from when I was little. I remembered that scene apparently flawlessly from your clips! But I never could recall what this film was! I looked all over but I only ever managed to get ahold of sci fi flicks and documentaries. I’d entirely forgotten about looking for it. But this came in- omg thank you for bringing this back to me!! I’m SO going to get this movie now!! God bless you Klayton!
I think the 1970s Lupin The 3rd anime had an episode involving the Loch Ness monster too. I don't remember if they made it a monster or just an animal doing its thing.
I highly recommend the novel The Loch by Steve Alten. Its a character drama wrapped in a creature feature. It's a good sci-fi/thriller/horror/drama. It sort of flips the Loch Ness Horror subgenre on its head in a way I don't want to spoil. I've read it maybe ten times, still love it.
I'll have to check this one out later. I always loved dinosaurs growing up and the Lock Ness Monster is what got me into cryptids and such. That and I'll have to check out Beyond Loch Ness since y'all are mentioning it in the comments. Never knew about the Saint Columbo story so good on you for that. The only movie I've seen like this was the Crater Lake Monster but I'm not sure that's one I'd recommend since it's a bit random and goofy at times.
Lived in Scotland about 25 miles from Loch Ness and I remember this being released. Made a bit of an impact on the first weekend, but then dropped off really quickly and became a bit of a sore point amongst the Scottish populous, when everyone realised most of the movie wasn't filmed in Loch Ness, in fact a lot of it was filmed in England, and that there's absolutely no Scottish actors in the movie at all. The cast is primarily English and American, 1 Welsh actor, and no Scots whatsoever apart from the little girl as they couldn't find an actress of that age who could fake a Scottish accent.
I remember watching this as a kid and at the end was like "that's all we see of the monster?" Haha try beyond loch Ness. The plot is the loch Ness monsters migrating to Canada to reproduce
I saw it on TV in the States. Never forgot that moment with the little girl...I just knew this was the movie you were talking about from the thumbnail! I haven't watched it since it was new as I wasn't sure it would hold up to my memory of it...maybe I will now. Thanks for that!
I think I did see this on tv or maybe rented a VHS copy. I'd completely forgotten about it. I still remember Adventures In Dino City though lol. Steve Alten who writes The Meg books also has written a few Loch Ness books too. Might be worth checking out. They haven't been adapted into a film or show yet.
Steve Alten's "The Loch" is part of his Meg universe...same with his Sharkman book. His is the second series where he started working his other stuff into a series...the other being Jeremy Robinson's Project: Kaiju series where a lot of his oneshots were retroactively inserted into it as backstory for sequel books
I saw this movie at that year and there are so many memorable scenes. One of my favorites is when the guy is playing cards with Isabel and is mesmerised when she shows signs that she might be a telepath! Got a good laugh for that scene.
I remember this movie and caught it on ABC! It was pretty good. I totally forgot about the movie until it was randomly on a cable channel just this past year.
Man I remember watching that as a kid! I've been super into cryptozooligy since I was little. I'll have to give it a rewatch. I almost forgot it existed.
I saw it when it premiered. It sticks in my mind for a weird reason. At one point, a guy gets knocked out with a beer bottle. Now every time I see that trope, I remember this movie
This video reminded me of a movie I saw years and years ago. When I was little my mother rented a movie for me to watch called The Secret of Loch Ness from 2008. It's a quaint little German film and it's so unbelievably obscure today. It's definitely very low budget but it's surprisingly quirky and original. Great video, by the way.
I loved this film as a kid but I've only just noticed the similar vibes to The Lost World. Nessie is my favourite cryptid that I know doesn't exist but choose to believe in as a treat to myself.
I did see it, once on TV when I was 10ish/1999. I remember being disappointed that it only showed up at the end. Although that behind the shoulder thing was cool. 3:04 I for one was/am totally into Carnosaur.
Oh hell, I remember my family renting this in 1998! Still vividly recall many scenes despite not having watched it in 25+ years! Probably responsible for sending me down a cryptid rabbit hole in the 00's lol
I actually did see this as a kid too but it was so long ago, that is a very vague distance memory so much that if i see it again, it would still feel new to me, i really should try it out.
First, for looking at this movie you have earned a subscriber Second, I'm so glad that you revisited this. This movie remains a personal favorite of mine and there are many things that I enjoy about it. One of the most prominent scenes was with Ian Holms character when he talks with Ted danson . He describes how dansons "science" didn't solve the mystery of the loch, but rather a 9 year old girl and how for all it's innovations, science has also given it's worst like acid rain, pollution and climate change. That the creatures that survived for 15,000 years were doing fine without us and don't need our help. In short, a child is better at keeping the secret than a power hungry adult. Even in my 30s, this scene (this entire movie) still remains strong in my memory and still holds a powerful lesson.
Although I am of the perfect age to have seen this movie AT the right age, I never saw it. A couple of other content creators I follow have covered this and it does look enjoyable. Although not taking itself too seriously as a movie, I think the people who made it were passionate about what they were making. Some bits of dialogue may also seem cheesy but when it's delivered with heart, it just connects with the viewer.
I loved this movie as a child. It has been impossible to find good quality clips of it on youtube, and I didnt know where to watch it or anything. Id rewatch this film a lot as a kid and the monster in the movie scared the crap out of me.
I remember this movie from back then because i was Five in 1996. But i guess i had a fever dream and i remembered Kirstie Alley, The Dad from Fullhouse and Mara Wilson being in this movie.
I remember it being on the telly a fair bit in the 90s on weekend afternoon slots along with Dragonworld, Ray Harryhausen flicks and the never ending story 3 XD
I've actually seen this movie and it's my favorite loch Ness movie and I keep trying to get friends to watch. It deserves it it's a wonderful film and so touching.

I vaguely remember seeing this on TV when I was a kid, but barely remember anything about it. Might be worth tracking it down to give it a re-watch after all this time.
I loved this movie!! No sir! This one didn't get past me at all. I love the idea they presented involving the how the creature's vocals sounded. The sound we all assume it gives off compared to the actual sound the little girl imitates

I saw it on tv and I think remember renting it in the USA, does it have a Region A disc release?
I remember watching it on TV for the first time. Always though the music was great!
What are your thoughts on the upcoming film Twisters? Have you seen Twister from 1996 starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt?
I believe I seen it on Sci-Fi channel I'm pretty sure. Like a few decades ago lol
this was on tv for me but i only caught the ending and never aired again lmaooo
This is one of those movies you rented from your local video store back in the day, never to be seen again. Secretly waiting for you to remember its existence at a moment's notice.
It’s a real shame we never Loch Ness in Lost Tapes
That would make great analog horror I've seen some of the Jurassic Park ones it should be on par with that.
We got basically the same or similar creature in season 1
I wish Lost Tapes would return.
@@anubusxyeah there are so many cryptids that would go great in it
