Shannon, I am so thrilled that you enjoyed Mill on the Floss - the one George Eliot book that seems to get the most hate around here. I am a bit of a George Eliot fanatic and I rank that number 2 on my list (just below the masterpiece Daniel Deronda). I love that we both gave lengthy reviews of the novel, yet we talked about very different things - I think the only overlap in our reviews was the humor brought by the meddling aunts and the autobiographical influences in the story - it just demonstrates what a complex novel this is. What is the next George Eliot novel that you want to tackle? Thank you for the video.
@@JosephFrancisBurton The Aunts are so funny and really are important to the story! One thing I didn’t talk about which was so interesting was the constant comparisons of people to animals. This was published just after Darwin’s findings and had rocked everyone’s world and I found myself underlining every time Maggie was compared to an animal (Shetland pony, etc). There was SO much to explore! I think next I’m reading Silas Marner I’ve read both Middlemarch and Daniel Deronda but it’s been so long that they are both due for a re-read.
Shannon! I’m reading Mill on the Floss right now!! ❤❤
You’ve gotten me so excited to pick it up more regularly!
@@Shellyish Yassssss! I hope you love it!
