    lovely video and beautiful head of lettuce.. realistic time frames for growth, unlike some other videos.

      @@Liap Not your videos. Other people's videos. Your videos are realistic , on point and I love watching them. I realised that it's not my planting, because sometimes I find it takes too long, but some plants just take a lot of time to germinate, grow etc.

    Do you have to do anything besides water it? Plant food?

      Assuming You have good soil rich in organic matter, no 🙂

    I've tried growing lettuce twice now, and it hasn't worked. The seeds don't germinate. Your video said mostly compost as the soil base, I'm going to try that with perlite (I don't have sand)

      @tylerc-137-rq7jv Рік тому

      I used coco coir, peat moss, aged forest material, and perlite to grow some Oakleaf and Gourmet lettuce. Worked out great! Just had to keep up with watering. Oh and I was feeding them with synthetic nutrients. Didn't run organic.

      The most important thing for lettuce seeds to germinate is light. If Your seeds have hard time germinating, don't cover them at all. Just put them on soil surface, spray with water. You can also create some little greenhouse effect to make it hold moisture.
      Yes I am using mostly compost this year. Perlite is fine, you don't have to add neither of those, they can help but are not essential.
      One more thing - when using compost for germinating seeds, make sure it's sifted to fine structure. I am having no trouble germinating any seeds this year in finely sifted compost.
      Good luck!

      @@Liap Thank you for replying. I really appreciate it. I put my pots right on a sunny window, so they got plenty of direct sunlight, and I watered them whenever the soil looked day, that's why I can understand why they didn't take

    • @Liap
      @Liap  Рік тому +2

      @@fah6601 They don't need direct sunlight to germinate, they just need some light. Direct sunlight will dry out the soil faster. Seeds don't like that. They like being in moist soil that is not being dried out and watered again. That could help too 🙂

      @@Liap Thank you! Every place I looked and researched said they need direct light, but then I found that problem you said, my soil was drying out way too quickly. Thank you! I'll try again

    Ahoj, dal by šalát pestovať aj v nižších nádobách než používaš ty? Eventuálne asi v akej najnižšej nádobe by sa dal pestovať? Ďakujem pekne P.S. pekné videá natáčaš, pochvala

    • @Liap
      @Liap  Рік тому +1

      Ahoj, áno dal, ak sú nádoby dostatočne objemné, čiže ak plytké, tak aby mali väčší priemer.
      Záleží aj od typu, listovému šalátu sa bude dariť aj v nízkych nádobách (10-12cm), no pri hlávkových skôr 15-20cm.
      Ďakujem veľmi pekne, teší ma, že sa Ti moje videá páčia 🙂

    WIll they regrow after cutting them like that and also how deep were your containers? Thanks!

      Hello. If You let big enough stem in the soil, it will grow some side shoots, but it won't form a second head like the first one. The containers are 21cm ( ≈8.2") deep.

    Once we cut the lettuce out, does is rapport again since the bottom part is still in the soil.

    What is the best month to sow seeds in the UK?

    • @Liap
      @Liap  Місяць тому

      Depends on the weather conditions. About 4 weeks before last frost date (assuming You can keep them away from potential frost). Or even earlier if You can protect them with row covers for example.

      These were grown between houses. They had around 1 hour of morning sun and then around 4 hours of direct sunlight in afternoon.
