    Having crewed a Mk10 Chieftain MBT, in Berlin, in the late 80's, watching you guys bring them back to life stirs up a lot of good memories, keep up the good work!

      The Berlin Wall colour scheme is currently the firm favorite for the paint job on this tank

    Good to see another one being rescued.
    On the video itself: I'd far rather listen to you lot's chat, wit & banter (& verbal abuse) than music, as it makes it more interesting & entertaining.
    Dunno what anyone else thinks.

    I'm local to Phil and always used to go through his yard green laning, seeing the tank was the highlight. Hadn't been for a while until recently and was sad to not see it there, just randomly decided to look it up and seeing this made me happy. Glad to see it get some tlc. Looking forward to watching the rest of the series!

    Takes me back to my childhood. My father worked at ROF Leeds, went on many open days at the factory before any health and safety. You were allowed to go into the chieftains and just mess about in them. Shame my father is not alive now. He had 37 years as a fitter working on chieftains and challenger 1 and 2. Spent hours watching them on the test track.

      @@fittermatgreat video as always but I have one little constructive criticism, so many channels produce videos with huge volume variation between dialogue and music which are so frustrating to watch especially if you consume UA-cam while working (so don’t have a volume control close at hand all the time) this video strays into that territory… just my two pence, keep up the good work!

    • @fittermat
      @fittermat  2 роки тому +4

    Hmm, when, in an earlier episode you said you were acquiring a road registered Chieftain I imagined it as being a pristine, drivable example not the rather crusty specimen it turned out to be. Finger’s crossed that this old British Leyland horror doesn’t give too much hassle, at least it’s only (only????) mechanical issues that need sorting and not combat preparation.
    Considering that the Iraqis found that their SABOT Rounds could penetrate the frontal armour and pass clean through to exit the hull at the rear, that can only be a good thing. Or was that malicious Soviet propaganda?

    • @fittermat
      @fittermat  2 роки тому

      We have a reconditioned L60 ready to drop in so we should be good mechanically, just the usual seized linkages and rotten pipes to deal with.
      I will have to look up how they dealt with sabot rounds, I do know the armour package was improved at several stages to cope with new found threats, at least the chieftains ammunition storage systems didn’t blow their own turrets off like the Russians auto loafers when they took a hit 😂
