I have no idea how “Sábado Gigante” was in the US. But in Chile it lasted the whole Saturday afternoon, the entire family gathered together to see it, and it was the funniest, most entertaining program I’ve ever seen in my life, only because of don Francisco, which conducted this program by himself during 30 years. He’s also done the Telethon throughout the years, uniting the country, and obtaining the best of each one of us. There are thousands of children who have been beneficiaries thanks to his effort. Mario Kreutzberger, “don Francisco” is simply a genius of television and entertainment. Is, was and always will be✨
I am from Chile and I grew up with this show. It started at 1:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Live!! It had everything and Don Francisco is very funny. I went once to the show and one of the segments was Available Singles 🤣🤣…In Chile he is very loved and many times was considered a good candidate for the presidency; however, politics is not his thing he has said.
I don't know if he was a genius, but he was definitely clever in coming up with something that seems so new for that particular , huge audience he created in this country: Spanish-speaking immigrants who weren't watching English language tv and had never seen those entertainment programs that Mr Kreutzberger had seen on American tv and which he then copied and put into that one huge, hours-long Sabado Gigante. Which his audience here, as they had in Chile, turned into a family Saturday event for everyone to watch together. I was visiting in Chile once -- where I don't think Mario Krutzberger was as well liked and loved as he was by his audience in this country -- and people were surprised to learn that many of the segments on the Miami program were copied from old American tv shows, such as The Gong Show, which SG copied even to that part of him wearing different hats. The Teleton was also taken from another old American tv event...the "Jerry Lewis' Telethon", although that was really the best idea Don Francisco copied and took to Chile.
