Hopefully this one is a keeper for Nic. Love seeing this CL. They are definitely a rarer than other examples. Looks a nice example and thanks for featuring it.
Nice to see the focus becoming more of a classic. I own a 2003 Ghia auto estate 2.0. Purchased in 2021 with 41k on the clock. Now has around 75 thousand. Never been welded and rather well equipped for it's age having 4 leccy windows, climate control, trip computer and 6 disc changer. Very nearly bought an s reg pre facelift CL 1.4 from wife's family about 10 years ago but that did have electric windows and not alot else. I also owned a pre facelift 1.6 Ghia saloon auto a few years back.
That was bloody awesome Andrew and it was funny to leave the blooper in and i wonder if can make a mini series of repairs on George but thank you very much for the video much appreciated
I just bumped into your chanel like a month ago as I bought Focus 1.4 2003. Before I had Fiesta 1.3 98' really great car. I am new into car world and I appreciate the fact you made a lot of Focus videos. You have a new subscriber, keep it on 👏🏻
My son’s just been given a 1.4 cl as his first car for when he turns 17 from his nan. Citrus yellow I believe is the color. It’s mechanically sound with anything ever needed doing to it done with only 100k miles on it on a 2001 plate. Only gripe is the color fade and lacquer peel. This came with the 6000 cd player from factory and front electric windows. Mum bought it new 2001.
@@usuallyfixingtinkering yep, mum bought it new and kept all the mechanicals where they needed to be as it was here only car. She only let it go due to eventually wanting a new car and bought a new MG thingy. She misses the focus still… we currently use it as our daily for work till he’s old enough to drive but he will be using for sealed surface off road autocross gymkhanas. It’s a lot nicer to drive as a daily than my ep3 type r 😂. I’m actually tempted to get it fully resprayed and keep it
@@kylobudgie9841 I insure it in my name as he’s only 14 so will only be able to use it off road gymkhanas. But for me and my wife it’s £180 a year fully comp with no no claims as they are used on our other car/ camper.
Hi Andy just had second piece of welding done on my focus same place as on Nick's cl had 1 side done 2 years ago and the other side last weekend like you i have no garage so i am spraying the welds and putting the carpet+ seats ect back in between the rain storms😄
Haha our lass says that about the seats. Mines at the lowest setting which is good but hers is non adjustable so she hates it as she feels like she's sitting in the car not in it
It was only the 1.8 that was factory fitted with LPG but my limited experience with the system this very much points to burnt valves which you've correct said they do. I think it needs more effort but not underpowered - usually that's a comparison I hear from owners of 1.8 and 2.0 MK1's. Naturally anything less feels underpowered.
Nothing more than other cars that survive from this age group. The perceptio that they rust more is probably because the examples that exist today are quite an age now, the youngest are 19. Most cars of their age went to the scrap years ago.
1.4 CL was always the complete bottom end spec and nowadays will be treated the same as any 1.6 when it comes to ULEZ and road tax. The only time I noticed a 1.4 CL was the most cringe thing ever when some young lad (17 yo) who came onto the Ford Focus Owners Club forum back in early 2000's proudly showing off his new 2.0 Focus with pictures of the car and the engine bay, etc. His mum bought it for him as a birthday present. Clearly a privileged child, I couldn't afford a car until I was 26 and had no help from parents. But I had no envy here. I was absolutely disgusted with what happened. The Ford dealer (this was a brand new car) salesman (yes they tend to be utter scum) realised the naivety of this child and his mother. The salesman removed the CL badges from the 1.4 car and shoved on a 2.0 Mondeo badge at the rear (Focus' did not have engine capacity badges until the facelift IIRC and they were a different font to the Mondeo 2.0 badge). His mum paid the full RRP for a 2.0i Zetec Focus ESP for a 1.4 CL and the salesman stole about £5k just by changing some badges.
oh my goodness me that is truly shocking!! Reminds me of why I'd always buy private. My guard is always up but with buying through a business you would never expect that level of what is essentially - Fraud! I wonder what became of that situation.

It's a great find for effectively £275! This will be having more work completed in the form of mini episodes of "how to do this..."
@@usuallyfixingtinkeringwould love to see an interior swap as part of a “how to” episode

thanks for sharing that's a nice collection of focuses of the years, you have a very nice spec the 2.0 ghia is a great motorway plodder!

That would be cool
It's had a lot of welding done for the MOT's from 2020 onwards. It's had a few bob spent on it.
I noticed when I looked, for the price point I'm flabbergasted.

Welcome aboard, another 1.4 owner!

A very rare colour on a MK1, it does oxidise rapidly so its not uncommon to hear of fade. Its been in the family 23 years!

How is insurance on this car ?

I didnt know they did a 1.4.. I assume its the same engine as the 1.4 in a mk4 fiesta at the time? Nothing beats a driveway job video :)
correct, the fiesta engine I refer this as.

Oh don't remind me about this atrocious weather, its been a vile winter hasn't it! That will do very nicely :)
Hopefully get some decent weather soon 🤞
Deffo needs a new header tank mate engine bay will scrub up canny with a wire brush ...some rustproofing and a spot of paint
That is definitely needed, next job happens in a few weeks :)

That's a perfect description of the seating position "On" not "in"!
A nice CL
it's very tidy isn't it!

Very common for the 1.8 2.0 zetec to burn the valves out in lpg guise the 1.4 was woefully underpowered

Ford should reproduce that car but with a few new changes ex(led lights 7airbags etc)
tell me about it, would sell like hot cakes!
