2:25 Fun fact, it is also socially acceptable to play Catch-and-release with Fairies (see Star Sapphire and Lily White's pages in PMiSS). The mental image of human village children running around trying to catch fairies, like they would cicadas, is too funny to ignore.

I agree. Yeah, I think in BAiJR one of the articles is about Kaguya's Lunarian exhibition, which also appeared in Inaba and Inaba. IMO the Inaba are "half-canon" in that the events did happen (Kaguya did host an exhibition, the Watatsukis did visit Eientei, etc) but the details are distorted.
Not only killing lunarians and beating down winged children for stress relief purposes are good and socially acceptable things to do in the wonderful(lly cursed) world of Gensokyo, but since burning down the shrine is both a good and a bad thing, that means setting it on fire is only karma neutral. Also, your little joke about fairies having no parents to go cry to made me think of something: Who gives fairies their names? Do they just name themselves? Do they even know what their names mean? I have so many questions.
I'm sure a lot of them remain nameless, like a certain example in EoSD. The fairies probably don't care about having a name, or are not intelligent enough to remember it. The characters probably pick a name for fairies that they meet often, for convenience. I think somewhere in touhou where it talks about Eternity, it talks about fairies names. I don't remember where, so maybe you can try to find that information.
@@youraverageperson6211 I mean specifically the fairies with canonical names, like Cirno and Clownpiece (though I assume that the later was most likely named by Hecc). I know Daiyousei, for instance, didn't actually have a name at the time, but the fan term she was given was eventually used as her name in both fanon and official materials. I just want to know who, in-universe, gives the named fairies their names.
You've got to love how "killing Lunarians" is listed as a good thing. Also even though I am the only one that will ever care about this, I am still slightly disappointed that they're called fairies instead of pixies, the original term for what they are. I mean come on, fey/fairy/fair folk is the closest thing that exists to a western version of the term youkai and includes FAR MORE than pixies. Then again, ZUN can't be blamed since the entirety of Europe forgot that is the case... Also also, Cirno is unbeknownst to anyone (even herself) the Snow Queen and nobody can convince me otherwise.
It is really shame how the game gave a bad image of the fairies. Fairies are not weak nor stupid. People feared and respected them because, they were technically assholes. They kidnaped people and their belongings, cursed people, killed people, ate people, raped people, pranked people and more. Fairies came with different shapes and sizes. From the ugliest to the prettiest. The well known one in the media is the pixie. The tiny humanoid creatures with wings. Even they are not stupid nor weak. They are mischievous, but they are not a threat to humans mostly. (they do not want to kill or eat them) Fairies in general had a very strong level of magic powers. They also could shapeshifting, control nature elements and so on. In fact, in the celtic myth they were seen as deities even. So I have no idea why Disney and ZUN made a bad representation of the fairies. I mean, even if they used Pixies only, they still do not act like the real ones do. The only thing they did right was, that indeed fairies are nature spirit creatures
@@MegaFrog as I said, ZUN don't know what really fairies are. So, he simply used the Tinker Bell method and made his own fairies. Therefore they are unique in his game, since they don't based on anything. Every other characters of his based on a mythological figure or species. Fairies however don't. I don't say it is wrong to create your own fairies. But it is problematic if everyone else based on a real mythological stories meanwhile fairies don't.

The epilogue of the inaba manga implies the events did happen but Kaguya exaggerated them for more sales. Watch out Aya, you have competition!
