You reminded me of a rusty 1964 Chevy Impala I had when I started working for the City of New Orleans. It leaked so much around the windshield that I removed all the carpet and drilled a few small holes in the floor in the lowest spots, so that the water could drain out as fast as it leaked in. I parked it for free, a couple of blocks from the Superdome under the elevated freeways to keep it from being 140 degrees inside after work. One day it got stolen, never to be seen again. After that, I chained the hood shut and chained the steering wheel to the brake on my Plymouth Duster to solve that theft problem.

One solution would be to remove and clean those terminal connections, use DeoxIT on those and the green crusty corroded connectors, replace those 2 terminals if they can't be saved, repair compromised connections , and locate the water intrusion failure, which appears to be the hatchback rubber seal.
Firing the parts cannon is for those that think manual labor is the president of Mexico.
Sure it's easy to be a critic in the cheap seats, but not everybody has deep pockets to afford the premium solution you've presented.
This reminds me of way back around 45 years ago when a VW stealership wanted to replace the wiring harness to bring my Rabbit back to life. Not having that kind of expendable cash forced me to become a quick learner to find I only needed to fix an "open" in the wiring.
Since then, I follow the mantra that if you want it done right...do it yourself.

Why are there no drain holes? Am I missing something?

Question. I want to boroscope my pistons in Sienna 2008 2GR-FE, extracted sparks and see that the needed piston is in upper position. I would need to rotate engine crancshaft to move pistons. A good idea to use ignition and rotate crancshaft by trying to start the car, but to prevent engine from actually starting (most likely one side will have 3 sparks and another side will be 3 out). So, would it be a good idea to remove fuel pump relay and rotate the engine by ignition key, or should it be EFR relay?

Why don't they do a better job of designing trunk seals so water doesn't get in? Have this problem with a 2003 Echo.

There’s also seams around the roof that crack over time and let water leak in. That can be sealed with silicone, but it’s gotta be done before it gets worse

Why doesn't Toyota just use dielectric grease on all of those connections, before assembly?

The old battery of this 2nd gen Prius will fail, sooner or later - life expectancy 10-12years., so probaly sooner.
Maybe I misunderstood - you will now just replace the harness and the corroded contact nuts, and the computer.
And in a few years - you will have to do nearly the same job to replace the cells...
    Wrong..?

Lol fun to be a targeted individual isn’t it - for all of you who think this is random and this guy may be off his rocker or meds - well let me tell you he is more sane and awake than most of the population thus he is a target 🎯 he has eyes to see so he is dangerous to the new world order- all the harassment he deals with is not spoken of - but he is pointing out the obvious things that are absolutely common especially lawn care people and yup helicopters- as crazy as it sounds it’s not a coincidence when every time you record these things happen it’s def a spiritual thing as well but that’s a whole other red pill 💊 to swallow - most choose to stay asleep but some of us are truly awake not woke awake

Never ever put an aftermarket battery and ECM in a Toyota those are some very specific engineered parts. That would be a $1600 waste of money and a total risk

@@beeslandscaping And when the day comes that your Prius goes up in flames you can credit it to a repair done by someone who was not certified nor qualified to do the repair.
I worked for the USPS and I was trained, certified and qualified to work on machines worth up to $10MILLION dollars. You don't just leave this kind of work to the average Joe. Like Peter said, that battery can kill you and all it takes is putting your hand across the terminals without wearing the proper gloves. You are not the example to be telling people "It was easy, I did it". 🤦🏼

That’s because your cars rust to nothing inside of a decade. Cars from Texas to California can be forty years old and have no rust.

It is but we pay the price in plastics. I buy all of my secondhand plastic bits from the UK for my classics. I made the mistake of buying a fog light bracket for my 1990 MR2 Turbo from the same UK source recently and there was honestly more rust than viable metal.
You know what else is nice? I rarely need PB Blaster. Basically just on exhaust bolts. Everything else comes loose like it was cinched up yesterday.

We are talking about the first main problem on a 20+ year old car. Any other technology had at least 3 or 4 maintenance as expensive as this or way much more. That's why I equipped ALL the expanded family with this model (4 exemplars + 2 for car sharing / rental + 1 Yaris). Most of them have more than 18 YO and 3Mm (200 kmiles) without main problems (only 2 have this maintenance need , soon others).

Toyota Hybrids are among the most reliable cars in the world. If you worried about drill a couple small holes in both areas, paint the holes with a rust proof type paint, and your issue is gone.
