About to try this game. Does this class play like a berserker/fury warrior?

Hi friend, I'm new to the game and I started with the slayer, but I find that I do little damage and die very quickly, any advice?
Get Vanquisher and Beastlord cloak, book, and jewel. Stack weapon skill and parry as much as possible.
Would be impressed. But since Slayer is the easiest class and favoured by the head developer and is in serious need of a debuff, I'm not. But that won't happend, since then the head developers love-child won't be "the best" anymore. Can't have that.
Is White Lion currently the strongest?
