I like the sound of my stock LBZ exhaust with the cat and muffler removed. Just straight piped 3.5 inch exhaust. Not loud idling or cruising but sounds good while accelerating. Stock turbo sounds good too.
@NextLevelTruthit’s definitely tough to get the pipes to aligned up where the cat sits
The only thing I could think of when you were backing out of the garage was watch out for the minivan earl just fixed it 😂🤣
😂 I was definitely looking
Trucks sounds amazing either way, 5" is definitely my favorite. Thank you
Been watching you for a while now. Finally subscribed. I have an lb7 I'm going to slowly start modding. This is my first Duramax. I've always had powerstrokes and Cummins. Love the truck so far!!
Thanks 🙏
4" for the Win! Thanks for the Video TM.
5 inch for sure! Turbo whistle sounds amazing!!!
Thanks
Alright... I like the fact that you talk about the difference in sound while in the cab. If the exhaust is too loud that gets annoying on a 12+ hour drive. What I am interested in is the performance differences. Throttle response and so on.
This is going to be kinda like David Allan telling Steve Goodman he had not written the perfect country and western song... 4" & 5" both with and w/o muffler would be the "perfect" test. Preferably the same manufacturer (regardless of who that be), same length of pipe, same muffler length and overall length w/delete pipe. Audio quality was great. Thanks and keep up the hard work 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
That's why I went with a 4.5, best of both worlds
Boosted District where did u find that
Just picked up 07 gmc lbz had 4” dual with a muffler. Just removed and did 4” straight sounds great. Good videos enjoy watching them
5" EXHAUST FOR LIFE!!!!!!! AWESOME VIDEO BRO
Thanks boss
That 5” sure sounds good man👍👍
I just installed 4" straight pipe with 3"down pipe. I love it
Just got my sticker in the mail !
Cant wait to put it on. Thanks man !
Thanks send me a picture
I'll take the 4. That turbo whistle to me sounds like a dentist drill right through my skull but thats me.
I love my 5" ... epa loves the 4" 😢
😂
Good work on that video...I love that the muffler is mostly whistle... my strait pipe dually roars so much its uncomfortable on long drives and especially pulling my camper across the country... I left my 2500 with stock exhaust but I might explore going to this Muffler you're showing..
4” sounds amazing outside
Hey man fellow Michigan guy and a big fan of the content you put out! Was trying to figure out what exhaust setup to go with on my brand new crate motor LB7. Don't want it insanely loud or droning but not afraid of some noise. But can't seem to find a UA-cam video on dyno comparisons of limitations from 4" straight, 4" muffler, 5" straight, 5" muffler....that would be a awesome and helpful video for you to do I think haha just saying!
As much work as you do in your garage, install a bunch of four or eight foot LED lights everywhere so you and your viewers can see better. Put a light plywood ceiling in it and paint it white. Even better light and you can heat that puppy easily.
Great video. I really didn't here a whole lot of difference in the sound when you were doing the drive by's or when you reve'd it, but did notice the difference in cab and at idle.
You want a super unique sound. 4" straight dual exit 7" tips. Your welcome
5" straight pipe for sure!! 👍
Definitely
Ive got straight 4" no muff with diamond eye downpipe I love it myself loud enough to make neighbors alittle angry in a.m
😂
5” all the way!
Truck sounds crazy good man
Thanks
Back when flowmaster made the hushpower muffler best thing to get rid of drone still could hear the turbo whistle
You can hear the spool up better with the 4” but overall the 5” is awesome.
It’s a tough call they both are so similar
Keep up the amazing work !
Thanks 🙏
I have a 4 with a muffler and after they get packed with soot its almost like they arent there. I also have a friend with a 5 with a muffler the same length that is much quieter than mine is
Could you do a video on running GM Injector cleaner by bypassing the stock fuel lines and running fuel into a gas can with the cleaner in it. The test is mainly for trucks with bad balance rates but it would be good to see how it helps your truck out
I definitely plan to do a video on that soon thanks for the suggestion
Fellow Michigander here. About to order an exhaust for my ‘06 and I’ve never been more confused! I’m not running big power, so I’m leaning toward a muffler due to the sound level in the cab. Did you experience any drone at highway speeds with either/both systems?
That turbo though 🇺🇸👍
man that whistle sounds sweet
Bald eagles 🦅
Merica 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I don't care much for the loudness or tone of the truck. However, I would like to see if the exhaust can change hp and/or torque numbers like gas engines. I think if you dyno the truck with big tires with 4" and then 5" exhaust and then small/regular tires with 4" and 5" exhaust would be good data to have. I'd then repeat with the new anthem wheels and tire setup. You've got the best of the best per se from motor to exhaust. I think the numbers may even shock you! LOL!!! Keep the content coming.
I like your thinking sir
Was one of the first things I thought too. What the difference does to HP, MPG, etc.
2007 classic crew cab dually mbrp 4 in with flowmaster hushpower
4” is way better, sounds good 👌
Just running my mouth I love that truck😉
😂
4 inches Straight Pipe is my preference with axle dump
I'll back to 4 inches is more idle sound ✈ with 63 turbo Fleece sound amazing
Making me rethink my self lol
You will like it I promise
THAT TURBOOOOO
That’s you very soon 👍
Heyy josh would u recommend a mbrp vs a flo pro exhaust system or what is your go to brand
Great vid brother! Hey could you make a video of a cp4 to cp3 swap for an lml? Or could you point me to a great video for it? I’d rather you do it cuz you explain everything so thoroughly. Thanks man!
Yes I can definitely do that for you
I like the stock 3.5" myself. I'm not a big fan of the load turbo it just sounds like a vaccum cleaner. I like to hear more of the motor 🤷🏻♂️
Why are you gay
😂😂 vacuum cleaner
Sounds same. But quiet in the cab is important. I got a flo pro cat back 4 inch with muffler comming for my lly... Prob a waste of money being a cat back
Great sounds either way!!!!!
I agree
Next time you break a t bolt on your v-band just go to oriellys and get a 3 inch t-bolt hose clamp and cut the bolt out with a grinder.
Great idea
3 dollars vs 50 dollars
I'm convinced I need a muffeler delete
5” Axle dump FTW!
Great video. How bad is the droid on each? My truck gets cranked up at 4am not trying to wake neighbors up. What would you recommend for an exhaust? Want my diesel to sound like a diesel should, I was thinking a dpf/cat pipe only, then though about a full exhaust with muffler. Options?
What about a titanium exhaust & titanium exhaust manifolds?
3:39 5"
6:42 4"
Thank you
thank you for your video, my choice would be the 4 inch, but which one gave you the best performance? best fuel economy or power . I bought a 2003 2500HD GMC crew cab long bed , with chip 4in exhaust and all the bells and whistles, stock 265 size tires, giving me 24 MPG in the economy mode on the chip !!! only thing i dont like in my truck is the cab noise and that the exhaust comes out before the tire and almost under the back door so driving with the windows down is not an option. especially on long trips and towing the horse trailer
With the 4in I can hear the turbo a lot more crisp 🤙🏼
Maybe a custom 6” next?
Cool idea
I would rather have liked to see 5 vs 4 both w no mufflers.
When you put mufflers on the smaller diameter kit it defeats the purpose.
You’d have to do a muffler comparison on both!
I have a popular video on my channel. It’s my old LBZ w 5” straight pipe. Vs my buddies LLY 4” straight pipe!
The LBZ blows it away in my opinion!
God bless you and your ambition
Thanks 🙏
I need a dyno shoot out between 4 and 5!
Very good video man, an actual fair comparison. I personally do like the 5 inch straight myself, that's what I run on my LMM. With the 3" downpipe, which I watched your video from 3 years ago as a guide 😅.
I also saw my pics on the beginning of this video! Absolutely made my day man!! 👌👍
Thanks! I appreciate the picture
Go with the 6inch it more louder that i have on my lbz durmax
4"sounds great, also don't you need some kind of back pressure for more hp and torque?
Not with Turbo Diesels.
Not for turbocharged gasoline engines either, but an issue that can happen with getting rid of backpressure without adding any other mods (boost controller/ext. wastegate) on a stock turbo car is boost creep.
I bought my LB7 with a 4" with a muffler already on it and, while it did sound better than stock Duramaxes, I had to go 5". It sounds so mean even when lightly accelerating.
You have to go 5” with a lb7 I love the sound of a old lb7
5" Sounds better!
I have 5" on my LLY 500RWHP.
I have a question for everyone, I'm thinking about doing a oil cooler delete and install a air cooler with a fan under the bed.Has anyone hered of this??
I have not
Is that a stock turbo?? If not, what turbo is that??
I have a 4” no muffler does the aftermarket down pipe make difference and worth the money I have a lml
Yes it’s worth it because it’s better flow and it lowers egts
Truck Master ok thanks it’s on my todo list
It will definitely sound different though
Truck Master ya I heard that not looking forward to doing it after watching your video and a few others.
I couldn't take the drown in the cab. I installed a tfp.
How much louder is the 5 over the 4 with stock down pipe and no muffler just wondering my 5 inch should be here tomorrow
I’m not sure but I might just make another idea on it now 👍
I want honest feedback is it lame to do a straight pipe with out having a lift
No. A lift comprises a lot on trucks with independent front suspension. I’d keep to stock height, with bigger tires and an exhaust.
Was the 4inch setup MBRP exhaust and muffler?
Headphone users. RIP eardrums 😂😂
😂
Have you heard of lly injectors going bad. I seem to be hearing a ticking noise from mine.
I’ve also noticed that the truck has lost a bit of power over time. It has an Edge juice with attitude chip and i am not happy with the performance of it as of now. I fell like it had more power a few years ago and it’s just lost it’s edge so to speak. The mane fuel flow at idle is 13mm3 and I’ve heard stock trucks run about 8-9mm3 at idle idk what that could mean
It’s very common to have a bad injector pigtail which could throw off the injection system most guys replace the pigtails or the one that’s bad
Do you have white smoke coming out of the exhaust?
Only at a cold start for a split second. But after that no.
Chaz Geisler are they stock injectors? I know the lb7 stock injectors are the ones that have the biggest problems.
Yes they are stock.
Where did you get the front bumper?
What turbo you got on that
Nice comparison! That’s crazy I can’t believe how well you can still hear the turbo with a 4” with a muffler. What I really want to see though is a comparison on the dyno. Same truck, 4” vs 5” three pulls each. I bet the 4” would produce better numbers due to better exhaust scavenging. I just don’t think there’s really any scavenging going on inside a 5”, I think it’s just way too big for the amount of air flowing out of a duramax. I mean unless your running compounds with over like 2k HP. My guess is that would probably be the only time a 5” would be beneficial to power production.
You bring up a interesting point my guess is close to 700hp it would be ideal to have a 5 inch but great idea with the dyno video
Yeah scavenging is something that I often see forgotten and it can potentially make quite the difference. You may very well be correct, I’ve never really dealt with or done the calculations for anything like this so I really have no idea lol. But yeah I would love to see something like that, it would be very interesting.
@@kcscustom9759 no scavenging is only needed on NA motors. Turboes are best on straight pipes for max power..
Good point! 5” is huge! Almost a bit over kill
@@Wretched2JZ he also has upgraded turbo so in this ride more benefits. Vs stock snail
What about performance? Is there a performance gain for the 5" over the 4"? If they both have the same 3" down pipe.
Not really unless you are over 700hp then a 5” would definitely help
I know my neighbors hate me :)
Did you put a curt hitch on it?
No I did not
Looked a little different than factory. I got one on my pick up and love it.
I noticed your truck at idle in some parts is just doing the rumble, how did you get it to do that? Mine hisses at idle and I'd like it to rumble instead
It’s the way it tuned
Muffler honey sounds better. 5 in with a muffler probably the best one you could use
what size down pipe do you have?
I'll be selling my 4" to go with the 5".
I have an 05 LLY. Truck Master would you consider selling me the 4inch you took off with the downpipe?
I have to keep it just incase I buy a project dmax but thanks for asking
@@TruckMaster no worries. By the way, I'm a big fan, love your videos, they're super useful! Keep posting!
Bet you will be at 67k subs tomorrow. 👍
I hope so 😂
I just bought a 2011 lml its deleted and it just started to not rev over 2000 rpm it like falles flat on it's face any ideas
Check your fuel rail pressure is it low? Could have a weak cp4 that’s probably why the last guy sold it but I hope it’s not that
@@TruckMaster no I got that checked out today that's all good but my fass fuel system seems to have quit so I'm gonna look at that it worked when I bought it
Check the relay on the fass it’s located in the engine bay it might have crapped out on you but sorry about your luck
I would replace the fuel pressure valve with one from PPE. Around 32 bucks. Do some research there. Fuel rail at the back of the rail on the driver side.
@@stevengoodwin4237 where did you find one for 32 bucks
Any clearance issues with the 5" exhaust?
Yes it’s really close to the rear shock
Which exhaust system has lower egts my egts are running too high on my truck in one city block they can hit 1300 / 1300 degrees easy easy my heads are shaved 8000 PPE exhaust from the heads all the way up to the turbo PPE downpipe 4 inch mbrp dual exit PPE air-to-air AFE air intake EGR Delete my egts are running too hot
With EFI Live 5 position switch
I’m a bigger fan of the 4” sound
Wish you where in Canada Toronto to help me get my truck and tune it up how you think is the best I want 🥲
Didn’t you do this comparison already
I did but not with the muffler
what are you laying on ???
Card board and a creeper
Does he ever actually say what the muffler is called?
Sinister diesel 4 inch
Are your up and down pipes and Manifolds upgraded?
Yes probably next year
Haven’t you done this before ? Can I have one of your old 4 inch or your 5 hehe 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Yes but it was slightly different
I have a 4" with an MBRP flow through muffler. I had to add the muffler because the highway drone was completely unbearable. I'll probably take it back off when I do the 6 speed transmission conversion so it will cruise outside the drone zone.
Great point
I’ll take a 4” with muffler
I’m close to putting my muffler back on. After 5 years the drone is getting to me. But cutting the side angle off and going to almost an axle dump seemed to quiet it down a lot. Surprisingly.
My hearing is so bad now, listening to the fans running hispeed in my ears 24/7/365. Tinnitus. Too much time on the range shooting. I like the 4" with muffler much better. Thanks for the work on the video. Do you watch Durtymax Jack? He talks too fast for my Southern ears.
The videos are better with wife-max.
Why ?
4 inch with muffler
I can’t even find a 5” Flo Pro exhaust ANYWHERE! Help a brotha out man!!!!
eBay
@@TruckMaster Tried but thanks! Found a website finally which I won’t disclose on UA-cam LOL!
