I recently went through this exercise. Was definitely worth it for me. I actually put a very similar video out on it from a South African perspective. In SA it is not illegal to remove the DPF, so you can replace it from the Turbo.
Yeah you should definitely delete dpf if you can, these guys know full well its just that companies won’t promote anything illegal. In tritons for instance the dpf will cause overheating and I’ve seen loads of them where the coolant gets in the oil and they go bust. In ford powerstroke 6.0 and 6.4 motors they cause massive regens and it wasn’t uncommon to have the engine runaway and blow up. If you were lucky you would get away with a cracked piston or head gasket, and its proven that deleting engines this big will give you a 50-80 hp gain, so deleting dpf is definitely worth it.
I also fitted a turbo back exhaust from DeGraaf a couple of months ago. My bakkie is very happy and doesn't even smoke with the DPF out. I did have it tuned around a year ago way before I did the exhaust, I'm curious to see how it goes after a retune. Will do that once I've upgraded the intercooler. I'm glad that we can still delete the DPF in South Africa. Also, DeGraaf pipes have nice big mufflers so inside the cab there's no exhaust noise at highway speeds.
My TD5 Defender has no DPF, no CAT, no EGR and a straight through exhaust, definitely makes a difference, much more responsive and I’ve now remapped it, so even better🤷♂️
I have a PPD 3 inch stainless turbo back with high flow cat, resonator and no muffler on my n70 hilux sounds and looks so nice it’s affordable aswell I think I paid about $800. I’m pretty sure my configuration is illegal in most states including my own
all we want is nice sound. I got a 3" in my 2.5 pathy. Car is also tuned. Has a nice tone and turbo dose. But I got it made at a local shop. Had issues with off shelf systems just not lining up and needing to go to a shop anyway. Hitech mufflers are fantastic!
A full proper system, extractors, high flow cat, high flow mufflers etc all the way from engine block certainly can improve performance. A half system or muffler delete on a V8 79 just so it sounds like a fart in a milo tin is the most annoying sounding vehicle on the road.
At 0:43, there is the first error. A petrol engine is NOT an explosion engine. It's a combustion engine. At 1:00, there is the second error. The ideal exhaust for a petrol engine without forced induction - a natural aspirated engine, is not to have the gas leave as fast as possible, but leave as fast as possible, but with the correct back pressure. A forced induction engine, say with a komressor or a turbo, is another case. Out as fast as possible. Cheers.
Just did that to my LX470( not known for being frugal) my OEM ones cracked. I find it certainly helps at higher revs, fair bit more power, down low it does make a difference but is nearly negligible, much better sound though even through the same mufflers. That V8 sounds great though. Fuel, well on long distance, just got back from FNQ to SA it's better , probably a litre/100km. Short distance, be careful with that throttle it can go faster but will cost you! Headers price was $2500 including fitting. If I knew the benefits before it would be a tossup whether I would get them or not if the OEM ones weren't cracked. Sounds good though. 😊
Would be awesome if you could share some info for the N/A petrols too? Specifically the vehicles from the 90's and early 2000's. What's the best system for power? Also how does back pressure work and does it make a difference to engine power and torque?
I can tell by the "grain" of the "quality" weld of which you speqk of, is still not quality...the grain suggests too fast of a travel speed while welding. Which suggests to me, that production is prioritised over quality .....
Not mentioned is scavanging, on a non turbo engine , larger diameter (or altering length of) pipe may make your vehicle slower. The use of the word restriction, lead some astray .
I put a 3” dpf back on my old triton, long story turbo crapped the bed engine ate it and ran on. Manufacturer wouldn’t honour the warranty as it “allowed the turbo to overspool and detonate” 25k fix. Got it fixed out of dealer diesel mech found it to be map sensor hose. Lost 7k saved me a heap tho.
What would you say about one who gets a muffler delete? Or goes for a smaller muffler? Would that be a bad idea in generating more power? Also what about making a custom exhaust how about some advice on this please
@dcameron0500 if your vehicle has a DPF and the OEM exhaust isn't stuffed, don't waste your time or money. All a DPF-exhaust back will do is make more noise. Anything above 90db and you'll get in trouble with Johnny Law or the EPA.
I’d never own a DPF vehicle. Every year every model just gets worse & worse. Old Td42ti, 80series 1hdt & the hdj79 1hdfte are the only trucks worth owning.
I would like to know how the exhaust will affect the turbos, waste gate, valves (petrol apparently) and the EGR valve? Goggle has inconclusive answers.
@marnixhoebers5176 nope, thanks to the DPF, any improvements are minimal at best. If there were significant improvements in performance or efficiency, they would have included the data. Instead, they have provided a bunch of anecdotal waffle 🤷♂️

A bit off brand, but had a mate that straight piped with a 3mm thick straight section at the last half a metre of pipe. On a 2.0 ltr Corolla hatchback back in about 97. It did help with lag. But man was that thing was loud.
Interesting how you have put together a video covering how the engine benefits from a modified exhaust to dispose of the burnt waste, but you have never addressed an even more critical detail of how a modified induction system affects the engine performance even more greatly when you point the snorkel intake the wrong way. Literally every licensed engineer will tell you to face it into the incoming air stream. Every bogan will point it backwards. Let's see a video on that one.
