Very nice documentary on Amrita Pritam. She was a true Punjabi gem from Lahore. The partition broke her heart. Her love for Punjab and Punjabi is second to none. The citizens of Lahore was erect a memorial to her and remember her as one of their great daughters.
Heartening to find that there are still people like you who are the flag bearer of old secular Lahore.On watching your documentaries my heart takes me to the poem The Gracian urn by John Keats, :-O little town thy streets for ever will remain silent be.and not a single soul to tell how though art desolate .Excellent attempt keep it up.God bless you.
Lahore was never secular but the other way around. The major difference is that the people of different religions lived peacefully in pre-colonial India and practiced their faiths to the fullest. At the same time art also flourished in various forms. When Britishers came, they ruined everything. They did the same thing here in North America too before USA independence in 1776.

My ancestors lived on Dhani Ram Street , Anarkali Bazaar. My father was born there. We still have pictures of our haveli there. My grandmother used to tell us stories of pre partition days in Anarkali Bazaar.

@@kamrankhaliq yes, it is still called Dhani Ram.,I left law college hostel some 55 years ago, and I thought it was on the backside of law college hostel. I used to drink milk with jaleebis deep inside-a habit which I relinquished and cannot be sustained in USA.
@@malikahmad8170 Ahh what a memory. I have also long old memories with this road. By the way my father was also studying in university Law college in those days . He completed his LLb in 1967. He also used to live in few hostels but not sure which one was that. Once he pointed a building that was behind MAO college where he lived for sometime .
@@kamrankhaliq you are right, this law college hostel is behind MAO college and we had little bit of frictions with MAO students, we thought they are too retrogressive, learning Urdu, Farsi, and Arabic. I graduated in 1972 from law college, now practice law in USA. Few years ago, I took my elder son to show him law school and hostel but could not go any farther because it was dilapidated, needed lots of repairs and also a bad incident happened that day in Lahore. God bless Pakistan and all of you.
No doubt Baalvala is doing good work but present day Pakistan have new youth which believes in love and harmony, unlike their elders. Changes are there in society. Awareness and education.

I was born near Bawra bazar in Rawalpindi. Great streets. Raja bazar, Arya mohallah. A birth place of Balraj Sahni was born near our street where we lived once. After leaving the sea as a Marine Engineer I live in Lahore now.

@@faizasana1275 from what I’ve heard, they were the king’s illegitimate children. Once the king died, the new king wouldn’t support them, so they had to choose other means for survival. The king usually had the most beautiful woman, so their descendants (the women of hira mandi) were beautiful also. They were cultured and refined because they knew the ways of the courts.
My late father was from Lahore and knew Amrita Pritam. Heard a lot about her from him. Would love to visit our ancestral house somewhere in Model Town, but politics between our nations will not allow this to happen.... Please carry on giving us these insights of Lahore...

@@faizasana1275 from what I’ve heard, they were the king’s illegitimate children. Once the king died, the new king wouldn’t support them, so they had to choose other means for survival. The king usually had the most beautiful woman, so their descendants (the women of hira mandi) were beautiful also. They were cultured and refined because they knew the ways of the courts.
