Ok. So I have two R1T’s sitting in my driveway. The first one was delivered in May 2022. The other was delivered in March 2023. So I have both sound systems. I would say they are very similar. The differences are small. I cranked up Rock you like a hurricane in both just now, back to back. Very similar. If I had to try to describe the differences, I would say the new system has more powerful bass and the old system seems to deliver a slightly better surround experience. I did comparison with everything on the same settings. Overall, they sound very similar. Seems like neither an upgrade nor a downgrade.
Just picked up my R1T two days ago with this system. Sounds great. Better than my model 3 performance. Though neither hold a candle to the Harman Kardon system in my Ram. Thats best stock system I've ever had by far.
My R1S seems to be lacking something in the low frequencies ... not the 'boom boom boom' kind of bass, but the kind you need to properly hear the lowest notes on a Cello, or a Kettle Drum, or the footsteps of a Dinosaur about to eat a lawyer in Jurassic Park, you know?
The Harmon Kardon Logic 7 sound system in a 2008 Mercedes S600 is amazing and it is the best factory system I’ve ever heard. I cannot believe the system uses class D amplification for mids and highs instead of just for the subwoofer. It’s just amazing.
Interesting! The Model 3 Performance sound system is quite good and seems to cover a range of audio frequencies quite well. I think I should have a listen to not only Rivian's system, but the Harman Kardon system found in RAM trucks as well.
Were all hoping Rivian will do a good job on creating an equal or better system then the Meridian system I just want to know how we can play You-Tube or internet TV / movies through the sound system??

The fixation on magnet size in a speaker driver is one of the biggest myths in car audio. A neodymium magnet is about 10 times as strong as a ferrite magnet by weight, so even a small neodymium magnet can be stronger than the strongest ferrite magnet that can be practically used in an application - the largest that can even be fit through the hole the speaker mounts into. Automakers will often opt for a neodymium magnet that After the type of magnet, the design of the steel components surrounding the magnet is critical to make use of all the available magnetic flux. Also, the "reduced rare earth usage" may be due to eliminating the rear door midrange speakers. There are other tweaks that can be made to the speakers, such as reduced moving mass, which improve sensitivity without requiring more magnetic material.
This was one of the most important things I wanted in my Rivans ( I have both on order) . I was in the audio business for close to 30 years and I highly respected the meridian company,so I am very unhappy with how I ordered a meridian and I am not going to be able to have it.
