I thought that was Steve-O in the thumbnail.
Damn….me too😂
exactlyyyyy
21 minutes in and you’re telling me Steve o wasn’t on the pod?
Same
Lmfao me too. I kept watching waiting for them to tell the truth and that this whole RJ thing was a bit 🤣
Heck yeah! Awesome seeing RJ and MKBHD in the same video.
Meanwhile Zack is flying around G-Wagons. That’s cool too!
You're an inspiration Zack!
Will you be doing a durability test on Oppo Find N2?
You need to do podcast
black guy is so low iq tho
So proud of Steve-O. He’s come a long way from his Jackass days. From crashing shopping carts into bushes to manufacturing a line of electric vehicles. Inspiring!
Honestly he really has
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
cool i wasn't the only one who thought how much of a ringer for steve-o he is
Nailed it!!! Exactly my first impression....
Such a down to earth CEO. I'm rooting for Rivian. I might need to consider buying some shares.
Not until they are close to breaking even. That'll take time and scaling. Closely watching them and once they are quarter or two away from profitability then I might buy a sizable share and let it sail for decades.
If you wait until they are profitable you’ll be in line with everyone else and the price per share will be 5 or more times what it is today. You only make real money taking risks. I think now is an AMAZING time to start or keep buying shares. IMO the price is at the bottom and if Rivian keeps getting better the stock will make you great profit. Profits can go to a down payment on a Rivian!
@@rf14dmb well put. If you wait till they're almost profitable you'll have missed out on much of the gains currently not priced in due to risk. I've already average down but am considering adding more at these levels. I'm thinking about this as a 5+ year investment, not a short term trade.
Lucky you if you haven't bought yet and it's still available at these levels. I started buying at ~30 but I've averaged down a few times. Anything under 20 looks like a pretty good opportunity. Now at ~15 even more so.
@@HenryBabcock good for you. I e averaged down from the 40s into the 30s. Some folks are even worse. But it’s an emerging company that started at the peak of the stock market and has suffered through a terrible bear market. Generational buys right now, don’t miss it.
RJ looks like he could play Superman, he really has that Clark Kent look, I love his personality as well, seems like he's a great leader and listens to feedback. Will definitely consider Rivian!!
Have you ever seen RJ and superman in the same room?
I too, got those vibes.
Looks more like SteveO from Jackass
RJ definitely has some Clark Kent vines to Musks Alex Luthor.
@@syedhabbas1 I was about to say this 😂
I'm proud to say I worked on the factory amazing what they're doing.
Do you still worked there? I worked with Rivian too!
@@phantommedia9964 I delivered concrete for their expansion.
Bought an R1S after watching this video. What an inspiring CEO. Love that he is an engineer and is doing this for the right reasons. Obviously a brilliant man with tremendous vision. How can you not root for this company?
You are such a PRO Marques, always know what you are talking about and interview people in whatever position in the chain in whatever area with such a proffesion, hats off for you Marques!!!!! Happy eastern!
PRO ?!! you must be a Rivian investor lol
@@alatmancave7093 Yes of course I would invest in a brand that only sells to the US/Canada LMFAO Seems like a good brand though Have a good day 🙂
I loved every minute of this interview and it was a real pleasure to hear from the guy behind the Rivian vision. Kind of shocking the difference in personality and humility between him and certain other EV CEOs
This guy is great… Great CEO RJ 👏 Loved his candid approach, humility, and honestly.. Very realistic guy who is in the reality… This company is only going to grow from strength to strength
I've been working at Rivian for about 2 years now, at the Normal, Illinois plant. This is where all the R1T and R1S vehicles are produced. It's quite astonishing to realize that I was present to witness the first-ever R1T rolling off the production line. I even had the privilege to sign the hood of that vehicle, which now proudly hangs at the entrance. I've had a few conversations with RJ on the plant floor, and I must say, he's the most down-to-earth person you could ever meet. On a remarkable note, I've even had the opportunity to shake hands with Jeff Bezos during his visit. I'd like to extend my gratitude to all of you for your support!
What a great interview. Objective and constructive. Well done as always, M!
Just took a 2,000 mile road trip to celebrate 6 months in our R1S and it couldn’t have been more seamless. We even got to use one of the first RAN sites on the east coast (Augusta). Best vehicle we have ever owned.
Lastly, rooting for and supporting RJ was our primary reason for waiting and purchasing a Rivian. Never lose that ethos, RJ.
This Thursday I'm about to embark on a round trip road trip from MN to Key West. Glad to hear yours went seamless, as I think I'll be traveling through a lot of the same road you did (MN --> Louisville --> Nashville --> Charlotte--Charleston--> St. Augustine--> South Beach--> Key West...and back).
@@fpartidafpartida We hope the trip is going well! Similar route but we went Nashville - Asheville - Columbia - Charleston instead. We used a combination of PlugShare, A Better Route Planner and the OEM routing system.
Marques is an excellent interviewer. Great conversation and some nice "firsts" for what is coming with this interview. Wonderful video and great information. Rivian is going to survive and thrive. Nice job Marques.
Hopefully… we need another EV company. Ford and GM can suck it.
I really appreciate how he was fine to talk about Tesla. Usually companies dance around saying a competitors name. It just shows he cares about the people and the overall EV landscape 👍
Hey RJ, if you are reading this, we need dash cam asap. We also need the ability to stream rear bed camera when towing and tailgate are down.
Love how RJ live asks what MKBHD wants improved/added!
RJ is very likable. I can’t imagine the pressure he must be under. The product sells itself as it is just so good. It is now a question of scale - can Rivian scale up enough to become profitable. Right now it is loosing money on every R1T and R1S. That is normal (same happened with Tesla for years) but with luck Rivian can grow enough to have healthy profit margins. I wish it the best of luck.
This is a critical point. Having a great product and having a successful business are not the same thing.
It sells itself because it is at least 50% underpriced.
Me too I love Rivian.
Related to your comment, I'm curious why the R1S and R1T don't share the same chassis. I don't get why they decided to make the R1S so much shorter and different. Seems like such commonality could have saved them a lot of money.
They are moving in the right direction quite fast. From losing 100+k to 33k in a year is impressive. Will really improve with their cheaper models
This is my next vehicle. Period. Great work Marques. You are living my dream 😊!
This got to be the most informative and thorough interview with RJ S. that I have seen.
Wait, can we please talk about this setup for the Podcast. This is INSANE man… Just 2 Gents having a chat.
You mean like, Comedians in cars getting coffee, or Carpool karaoke, or... 😂
@@WilliamFigueroa true. Just loving the setup.
@@tshidikhunou I only make fun because it works so well. So many copied it from Seinfeld. If it works it works right?
My friend took me for a spin in his Rivian truck and I was blown away by everything about it - the sound system, the power, the aesthetics etc. I don’t have a Rivian yet but after experiencing the vehicle myself It was a no brained to buy some shares. Love the interview!
I am a shareholder of RIVN, I spent more than 80% of my retirement account on Rivian. I have strong conviction Rivian will be successful years from now. Keep up the good job RJ. God bless!
It's a great opportunity to load up right now. Been pulling out of my savings to invest in rivian
This conversation with the CEO might be the pushing factor on me buying a Rivian
Interviews like this give me much more confidence in the future of Rivian. Thank you MKBHD!
RJ, you are the best! I’m R1S launch edition owner, I appreciate your care about family.
I love my R1T with the exception of missing carplay/android auto. I don't understand this idea that if you add that you can't have your own good infotainment. Let customers choose and if the native solution is better we will use it. As of now, the native maps are not nearly as good as Waze. It's missing many audio apps (Apple Music, UA-cam Music). Add AA/CP and those come "for free".
Doesn't the R1T do Bluetooth?
@@MrMaltavius Bluetooth has many issues... namely poor audio quality and causing unsafe actions by forcing drivers to fiddle with their phones
i love this interview style! you should do this with lucid and other ev ceos!!!
Peter Rawlinson used to sound like a humble genius and now he comes across as just full of it. Lucid was supposed to be high quality and not have any production difficulties because they were supposed to be taking their time bringing it out and doing it right. Turns out, prototypes are easy, production is hard, good software is harder, and they were just being slow and fiscally wasteful. Lucid's executives are all WAY overcompensated.
Talk is cheap. Execution or lack thereof speaks louder. I would love to see MKBHD interview Aptera's CEO.
I liked the episode. but, I found that RJ was finding it tough to be looking at Marques all the time while answering question. Not good for his torso, for sure. However, Marques was doing all right. :) From whatever i saw, obviously. I dont think i want this kind of interview for the sake of the guests.
Having said that, RJ handles it like a pro. Very impressed.
Great interview, hope Rivian succeeds mostly because I’m rooting for RJ.
I like this guy already. He doesn’t talk cit about his competitors. He knows his weakness and admitted and have a plan to work on it. He doesn’t claim himself as the EV leader like someone else.
I’ll add more Rivian shares next week.
I don't want CarPlay because "CarPlay is better than OEM" - I want CarPlay because it allows me to have consistent UI experience across all my vehicles, and to support features and services outside what the vehicle OEM offers.
Sure, Rivian offers their own maps, but what if I want to use Waze? Sure, Rivian offers TuneIn, but what if I want Apple Music? What if I want services Rivian doesn't offer at all like Zoom?
CarPlay is a lot faster to add things than built-in services. I don't want to rely on the carmakers to add things. It creates inconsistent experiences. CarPlay means a consistent experience across vehicles. I've had multiple CarPlay vehicles, and I've had a Tesla and a Rivian. Yes, Tesla and Rivian's built-in systems are better than Ford and BMW and Subaru's; and some features are arguably better than CarPlay; but CarPlay is consistent and reliable across Ford and BMW and Subaru. And CarPlay can do things that neither Tesla nor Rivian can do.
Adding CarPlay doesn't make your system worse. Just add CarPlay and give people the choice.
Thank you! Could not agree more. Not adding it and saying that it is so that they can get better is a lame excuse. Add Carplay AND continue to make your UI better, when the Rivian UI is better than Carplay, then we will use it more, but until then just add it and show that Rivian is listening.
Agreed!
I randomly put this video on repeat at night to fall a sleep. This video of RJ and Marques is perfect combination to put me a sleep.
Dear RJ, Good interview. I’m very pleased with both S and T. Hoping for an EDV camper in future. We need At least 8 Rivian chargers in Chicago area, 3 in city one 5-10 miles out on 90,94,290, 55, 57, 80. Thank you
Had fun listening to this guy. RJ Scaringe the man behind Rivian. Thanks MKBHD Team
Rivian just got my heart through this interview.
Great CEO who shines by his humility. And someone like this will carry this company to the sky.
Great job Marques. I like the way you very smooth with your questions. It makes who ever answering to you very confident. It’s great to make them feel you not tryna hurt.
Overall very great interview by two great people that pushing in the favor of EV landscape.
Kudos. 🎉
Easily, the BEST interview with RJ! Great job Marques! Also, this is the most open/honest RJ has been...sometimes he plays coy. Interestingly though, RJ's Dad is a multimillionaire and an engineer but RJ rarely talks about him or his help in starting his now multiple companies.
RJ Scaringe, as the CEO of Rivian, is the embodiment of visionary leadership with an unwavering commitment to innovation and technology, which Tesla CEO could never
Shout out to the audio setup on this episode! Binaural mic with the zoom f8n pro! Sounds super cool to hear the spatialization
This was really great. Thank you very much for doing it, sir!
Love the interview. Wishing Rivian all the best, and looking forward to buying when they are released down under 🇦🇺
I didn’t know much about this company until your videos about them. Great work!
19:30 charging infrastructure investment is huge. I’m glad to hear that’s where they’re excited to invest and build.
Great Pod! Excited to hear more on the "product" MKB's developing!
Great interview. Insightful and fun. Love my R1T and I really hope they can stay alive. Such a well built truck that’s super fun to drive.

That set of ears for mics is incredible
The EDV seat is my favorite thing about amazon ..as a bigger guy it completely changed my mood at work ... thanks 👌🏿
Marques is a top quality interviewer. Enjoyed this one a lot!
Perfect recorder for something like this, you can set it to 32bit Float and have zero need to worry about clipping, bring it into an audio software, even out the highs and lows and your ready to go. Audio recording is amazing today!
Excellent interview, very insightful and overview of how Rivian approaches balancing innovation, investment, and future products.
I made the switch from an BMW x4 to Tesla MY in early 2022 and have taken it surfishing and love the charging network.
My ideal EV would be an used R1T or future R2T depending on its size, range, and moderate off road capability as my next EV purchase; if it fits in with an active urban/suburban/trail life (motorcycle/kayaks/camping) and costs below 65k.
Such a treat to have such an depth conversation with the guy who started an amazing and inspiring company with just the kind of product, an electric adventure vehicle that can do it all, that many people would love to own.
This was probably one of the most well thought out waveform episodes, hands down. From the questions asked, to b-roll it was great. Looking forward to more!
Great interview with RJ Scaringe! He is one EV founder CEO who is genuinely intelligent and likeable.
RJ asking Marques questions as well just shows you how much he truly cares about how the consumers feel towards his products. As a big Tesla fan I’m actually really looking forward to what Rivian can bring to the table. I have no doubt it could be a nice Apple vs Android like “rivalry” that will only make both brands push each other to improve and be the best.
The speaker is awesome! Don't change it. Whenever we travel as a family, we have a high quality speaker to take to the cabin, boat, skiing rental house. I purched a Sonos Move before taking delivery of our R1S and it's so much nicer to have this instead. For starters, you can't forget it, second it charges in the car on the way there and in can charge off of any USBC charger.
A very succinct interview with Rivian's CEO (best EV truck in production in planet earth) with Marques (best tech UA-camr) sick!
Ordered the R1S few weeks ago, can't wait to receive delivery.
That was an awesome podcast. He answered all of those hard questions really well.
Excellent interview, I'm sold on the idea, love the product and the vibe)))
RJ is one of the greatest visionaries of our times. He speaks his vision with uncompromising flexibility to improving. These are signs of an incredible organization in the making. I am confident in Rivian’s success.
Dude, he is a good CEO...but visionary 😅, no that is not a label he has earned
I could listen to them for hours... so calming😊😊😊.
Awesome video! Rooting for Rivian and EVs in general. Hopefully affordable EVs come to the US by the end of the decade!
Tesla is well on the way my friend.
RJ seems like maybe one of the most down to earth CEO's I have ever seen before......Really made me respect this company more
Rivian needs to succeed. Sure seems like this is a truly great guy. Wonderful conversation.
Amazing Interview, great questions asked, great responses from RJ.
This was great. Keep up your great work on covering EV's.
Do not know if I will ever get to a point that I need to replace my existing vehicle. Just like my late depression era parents I maintain, and use my vehicle until it dies. Late father, and mother where never about GQ looks, or having the latest and greatest.
In fact when my late mother bought her last, and for the first time a new car she ask my sister who was helping her if she could see a more basic car. My sister asked her what she was talking about. Mother said you know the ones with handles to roll up the windows, and without all the other extras like AC. That is when my sister told her this was as basic as cars get these days with the company she was looking at.
Thing is after my Telco data center IT support job was sent overseas after the president said I am a great businessman. I am going to bring "High paying jobs back to America". I now drive around five thousand miles a year. Far less than when at one time my daily commute to work was 44 miles a day.
So my gas car is more than likely going to outlast me.
Can't wait until Rivian starts shipping to Australia. Hands down the best-looking EV on the market. Great CEO too and seems genuine. If Toyota doesn't make a Land Cruiser EV - I forecast Rivian taking up the market share.
the pod was great but the SOUND QUALITY WAS 11/10!!!!
Apart from the CEO being a star to hear from, the questions were super helpful. Very intelligent dialog that helped me learn more about the EV topic area. Excellent!
Hey RJ,
Thanks for your time/interview with MKBHD
Not sure if you read these comments. But it would be really nice to see an affordable SUV or van for road tripping. I know 4x4ing is big, but I imagine there are lots of people that at most only want to travel on roads and occasionally role into a campsite. I think of the ID BUZZ as a possible example - That thing looks fun.
Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for all you do.
This was an excellent 👌 interview, and I learned a lot.
What a great conversation between these two.
How crazy is it that this is a MKBHD x Auto Focus x WF Podcast collaboration
Great video . Perfect Sound quality . Listened to it with AirPods Pro 2 ❤
Awesome content. Can’t wait for my R1S!
Congrats on 100 video podcast episodes btw🎉
It's actually 162 epis now
That speaker idea is magnificent! Twice have I bought a wireless speaker because I had forgotten mine at home while on vacation! So, for me is a plus!
Just two super cool guys talking about super cool tech. Love to see it 😎
Awesome, thank you both!
Enjoyed the podcast. Hope the future compute platform mentioned includes building on the solid 42:46 QNX foundation with embedded cybersecurity and Amazon AWS BlackBerry IVY cloud services like tailored insurance coverage. Waiting on my R1S soon. Very exited for this new adventure.
Something I sadly don't get to say much but that's a CEO that impresses me, he's really interested in the product and not just shareholder and the stock.
RJ, thank you so much for making such a fantastic vehicle. I own quite a bit of stock and am taking delivery of my R1S Aug-Sep. I can’t wait. I live in Salida Co and off road every week. I will definitely be putting this 4x4 to the test. I would love to have four wheel locker. I am no programmer so I am not sure how difficult this would be, but assuming each wheel has a wheel speed sensor, I would think you could write a program stating all wheels must spin at the same speed. The off road ability of this SUV is of the upmost importance to me. Off road in luxury! Thanks so much!
I think creep is nice btw
The flashlight and speaker is great for me camping every weekend.
Great interview. RJ is so clear expressing concepts and very good interview from Marques. Great questions, follow up and engagement..
Thanks Marques, great job and great info. As for regen, I have owned several EVs since my 2012 Tesla Model S. They have all had various levels of regen, but my favorite by far is the Taycan - where you can literally turn it off. I, like others, prefer the coasting capability, but also allowing me to turn regen on if I want. I look forward to my R1S, however I'm not looking forward to the very strong regen I felt in my test drive. I would love a way to turn it off when cruising, and back on for traffic and such where one pedal driving is useful (with a single button on the steering wheel please). I will have both the Taycan and R1S, and will go back and forth between the two often - so it's going to be a hassle with such a drastic difference between the two.
Two of my heroes talking tech, branding, and products. This is why UA-cam works.
Top quality very interesting interview! Well done!
Great conversation, 40 minutes flew by
Love the freakish ears on a stick as the podcast mic! So excited to follow Rivian into the future
Great Podcast Nice Vehicle. Thanks so much for sharing Enjoyed. ✌️💯
Dam Dude, you are a really good interviewer as well as car reviews, props... Manny interviewers (particularly bright ppl like u) yap on and on semingly to show the listener/viewer how effing smart they are. You ask great questions and follow-ups and give rj the time for good answer. Thanks you so much for this one, I had sort of written off rivian bc of their cash burn rate etc, now I'm rooting for them.😎😎🤠
great interview. RJ reminded me of the Christopher Reeves "Superman". Can't wait to get my R1T.
One of the First Ones.. Whoop whoop. Can’t wait to hear what it’s about today. 🎉
Great interview gentleman. RJ your a leader to look up to,I want to be a CEO like your self.
i’m currently working at the normal plant building these and this video was unexpected ❤
Great Interview, Marques! RJ seems really honest and down to Earth, not words I would often associate with a CEO but a welcome change of pace!
This podcaster is soft spoken, articulate, intelligent, insightful. And Marques is pretty good too!
Rivian is killin it
Iorny xd
Great interview
Loved the costs discussion
This was a real pleasant episode
RJ is so proud and genuine! Love it.
Great interview! After watching the auto focus ep and this podcast, I want and R1s :) Great job! (one query tho ...12:05 why ???)
