Plug-in hybrids in Canada are perfect dailies and road trip vehicles. We just got a 6seat XC90 Recharge. 60kms of electric every day for school, 3 kids worth of activities and grocery runs. Getting ~2000kms per tank now and thats with a few 200km+ round trips to Toronto and back (including a trip to get my car scanned at TuxMat). I think we can push it to 3000km/tank.

In the USA . With hybrid you can get the best of both worlds but unfortunately auto makers think they know the people nowadays but by the time they realize their models are not selling a bit . C63 is a prime example

@@viccao8431 Yeah! I had plug-in hybrids written off because the first batch of them had such low electric only distance, but these new ones from Volvo, Mercedes, etc have 60+ km of range which makes them hyper-efficient if your daily needs are less than that or if you can charge during the day.

So i have the 97 s420. The thing i wish they would put on the newer models is the double pane glass for more quiet drive and not to mention bullet proof to most pistol ammo
The Generator mode is going to be a ticket magnet for idling laws. Your car sitting there charging on its own with its own engine, you not in it, ya that's gonna be a fine magnet. Especially in major cities

Thats actually a good looking car. And "HYBRID" is the way forward. EV might be a reality one day as infrastructure catches up. But if you like your freedom as a human, you have to keep gasoline or diesel around or governments will control your movements. Just look around in recent lockdowns. There was nothing governments didn't try to restrict your movements. Be wise....choose wisely.

I imagine you have a phone, if the gov’t wanted to track your movement, that’s what they would use to track you. Also, plenty of gasoline cars already have internet available, that’s another way to track your movement.

My X50e has all the same stuff as this car and costs 100k less...Also my highway assist is truly hands free on the highway...I don't have to touch the steering wheel at all on trips...That was the most annoying thing of having adaptive cruise in the past imo

@@stanlee3619 Paying 100k more for nothing more in return is a poor investment. For that price you are getting close to RR and Bentley prices which are even more luxurious and sought after.

My grandmother got one of these fully loaded back in May and everything the guys said in the video is very accurate. I drove it for a couple weeks while she was away and it’s an amazing car to drive.

Yes, actually, we are and that is how we save up to own one. We gas up at Costco.
The S580 is such a nice ride and a pleasure to drive. So awesome on the highway.
Finally. This is the one for me. 90 km range gives me full electric for 90 percent of my driving and for longer (one hour) highway trips it basically erases half my journey. 45 mpg here we go! A great idea to have a generator motor like the optional one in the bmw i3. But Benz knows its demographic. An occasional visit to the pump won’t bother them one whit!
I have had mine for the past two months. Absolutely outstanding car. 55-60 ev miles in warmer weather. 45-50 ev miles now that winter has arrived. Couldn’t be happier. It is the best transitional power train until ev becomes ubiquitous.
There is cupholders at the back. The first push opens that phone holder. Push again slightly but not all the way in and it comes out more with the cupholders.
I just bought one yesterday. It’s black with red/black interior. It’s an amazing car.
Can you turn off recupation/regeneration completely?
Mercedes infotainment design is still just so bad. It looks so cheap. Their colors, gradients and UI stack is just so dated. Guage cluster screen looks cheap.

A plug-in hybrid is definitely the way to go if you commute to work and take regular 100+ mile trips on weekends/holidays.

See this is why i think the Eqs is obselete because this is a plug in hybrid and the EQS is fully electric so why we cant have a full electric version of the s580 why when you go fully electric it has to be a whole new model like at this point they might as well make EQ a brand

This looks so much better than anything it competes with and anything full ev Mercedes is producing. Why can’t they just combine the EQS drivetrain with this design? Kind of what BMW is doing with the 7, but way less ugly.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223 is literally like a dream car of my life and is my prefered Mercedes-Benz model if I wish to buy one. Also, when it comes to German full-size luxury sedans, I don't know if I could choose that over the BMW 7 Series G70.
Well for one based on mechanics advice, specifically S580e, yes they can nice to drive in the short term but this one of the least reliable w223s you can actually have, the 7 series maybe polarising but also lesser issues I suppose as nowadays Mercedes reliability is going down
@@seansiew5629, by the way, I still trust BMW and I'm going for the 7 Series G70 over the S-Class W223. So, for reliability, I go for the 7 Series G70. For design, I go for the S-Class W223.
Have a 2020 Volvo XC60 T8 plug in hybrid right now, hate it. The battery died at 48,000 miles and the electric system doesnt work below 25 degrees F

at 175k it better be really good; cars need to be reviewed in relation to how much they cost, which these two usually do, but other reviewers sometimes try to review as if they forgot the cost of the car and complain that a 35k doesn;t do this or that

Mechanically it is an ok car but from a luxury perspective its interior design is nothing but cheap plastics, pimp lighting, & cheap tablets. Compare its pedestrian interior to the previous W222 or even W221. It used to be on almost the same level as a Bentley now it’s excessive plastic interior is more like a an ‘80s GM product. Its exterior is completely bland. From its fish mouth front to its generic rear. A design that is lacking any sense of style let alone luxury. Reviewers never address these points regarding its lacking a truly luxurious interior or exterior styling. An S Class used to be a complete luxury car from its interior to its exterior as well as its mechanical design now it’s nothing but cheap garish plastics wrapped in a fish with 4 wheels. Bentley and Rolls are the last 2 remaining truly luxury automobiles.
I wholehearted agree with you from a w221 and w222 s class owner, the 7 series meanwhile polarising looks, seems to be a more special car to me now

I hate that they don't give you guys the better version. We have the S580 4matic that has the 4L biturbo V8, it also has a supercharger and a small electric motor. It's got every kind of propulsion lol

You want to laugh, I own an S500 and had no idea about the sun visors extend and the removable cup size holder !!😅. Great car BTW.
The s580e in my country has terrible reliability issues, almost all owners that i know has a couple of electrical faults on this brand new car that the dealership still couldn't fix properly
Not only your country. It was a supplier issue. The whole production line with the series-number "012819" (overall around 23500 vehicles) was called back and they had to swap some small parts to fix a heavy issue with the on-board network.
Not sure if you guys ever read the comments- I bought a set of Continental tires for my Blackwing; because they are a sponsor of your channel. When I went to the Conti website to get my rebate, there was a long list of questions on what influenced me to buy. There was TV but no UA-cam option. I found no where to attribute the purchase to you guys. FYI

No this looks like an NPC car with an S class grille, it doesn’t have road presence and it’s bland to look at compare to the older w221 and w222 that I have, not to mention post COVID Mercedes have a horrible interior quality and reliability as well

Any infotainment screen that includes climate control in it is wrong. Taptic feedback is so important for safety. Honestly surprised Mercedes would do that.

Nasty black plastic everywhere, interior out of a c-class... Seems like as well as the technology from the s-class filtering down to the peasant cars, the materials of the peasant cars have crept up into the s-class. What a terrible fall from grace.
I'd take a nice W140 S600 over this any day. Not a fan of all the screens and gimmicks personally.

No, w221 and w222 looks better than the new S class, and also 7 series seems to be a more of an expensive built car than this S class is, the interior itself doesn’t scream class especially with that protruding screen which looks like a rather budget afterthought than on the 7 series, that 7 series is overhated because it doesn’t look like a BMW, but rather of a Rolls Royce judging the boxy profile up front
Rolls royces are beautiful, so the 7 series isn't styled after that.

Ok front end, ugly rear end, horrible interior design and down on quality from W222. Noone cares about all the plug-in or hybrid tech because an S class should always be a bi-turbo V8. It's a 2ton vehicle....who cares about mpg when you're paying 200k ? You save 1000 in gas a year.....
I had the last 3 generations of S class, this one is a fail....Mercedes knows it......
Put the hyperscreen inside.....forget about 4 and 6 cyl because they don't sell, forget about plug-in and hybrid because it's just not cool. Give us V8s and V12s and AMG versions of the V8 or V12. No 4 and 6 cyl baby weak AMGs.

Electric with 0 range anxiety. No pollution in heavy traffic or short journeys. This tech was possible 10 years ago but today it's not even standard. We have gone very wrong somewhere

I just wish the car wouldn't constantly misinterpret signs just like every other Mercedes. Maybe it's because of where I live, but all the functions related to that are practically unusable. Imagine doing 80 kph coming out of a tunnel, and just when the road gets snowy and icy, the car decides to automatically accelerate to 120 kph even though the limit is still 80. Not only is that dangerous, but you can also get fined 100 000 euros or more for that kind of speeding here.
Hello, you are doing good work, but please do not upload your videos in 24 frames anymore, because it causes too much flickering, frankly your videos should not be less than 50 frames, this will ensure an enjoyable viewing and will not tire the eyes. Frames per second are very important, especially on auto review channels like yours.

4:15. This is completely false. My car has adaptive cruise control with braking and the pedal doesn't move. When i push the pedal while it is already braking it just gives me the appropriate resistance i would already have if i was already braking at that level and it is not jarring at all. If my pedal actually moved i could totally see having an accident eventually because of your foot getting tripped up by accident. It would probably be a very rare occurrence but still. The fact that the pedal moves is so weird.
