@@IndexFossilchannel Simon Paterson Gabe is good at big barrels... the rest not so much. I forgot who it was but there was a brazilian at tahiti who couldnt even get a barrel, he ended up with a score less than 8
Not a fan of a one maneuver air getting a 10, but that was insane. Guy dominated for sure. Wow.
Totally agree, it was a big air but 10? Idk seems a little high. Definitely an excellent score though. I thought the varial was a little sicker actually
No... shouldn’t have a 10 for one maneuver.
But, about the conditions, there was no chance of tube, or face maneuvers. If in pipe u score a deep barrel you got a ten. So in a beach break one great and rare maneuver is ok for a ten. My opinion, but agree with you all..
i agree with caze... this kind of conditions the only maneuver that can produce a close ten score point is an air...
Interesting thought taking the conditions in to account. I still think something more than one move, albeit that it was insane. If this were just an air event, 100% that was a 10. Being this wasn't just an air something more was needed. Pipe isn't just a barrel event although that is where we will see the best scores and perhaps a 10. Just my deal I guess, but I'm just wired to see a big, deep, long split out the barrel as better than 1 air move even if insane I suppose. All great. Here's to a killer end of the season!

Love watching Italo, absolutely ripping. But. Think the WSL should bring in a rule for 1 repetitive move. It's the same thing over and over. They're huge air revs, but currently he is a 1 hit wonder.

Yeah I dont get it. Italo does the same flat spin over and over. But if judges are going to reward it, why change. Let's hope when other surfers do it, they get similar scores. Past history shows they don't.

Also we all saw that Italo can really surf if there is a wave for it.Bells.J Bay,the slab they call the box.Keep hearing for years some newcomers with big sponsors,all start flying first class having all hand out to them, and people saying whoever he is will be the next big thing,champion and so on. The likes of Colapinto,C Coffin,Nat Young, even K Andino and J Wilson and what have they done. Talking just about their surf skills and achievements, not the person. 2015 at Snapper comes a small guy nobody knew who he was,how he got there and all laughing saying,this midget will be gone in few months. The little kid without any sponsor,counting money to eat and sleep with no english just a big heart and strong will became a star.All alone on his own ,Billabong gave him a contract with clauses and ifs.Today that awkward kid is number one and main Billabong surfer,got J Parkinson room at the Pipe house,and who knows,just might win a World Title. Give him some respect,lots of people always point out or find something to trash Brazilians for whatever. Claims,,,something that most surfers on tour does the same if not worse,just like you here. markriobr except JJF can actually surf very different conditions ranging from 1 to 20ft+, from mushy faces to barrels, beachbreaks to pointbreaks, rights and lefts. Has a carve game to match his airs with plenty of style and flair throughout. Your boy pricktalo does the same air over and over with a wide stance and style than makes you want to pluck your eyes out
@@markriobr I have not seen Italo in nasty conditions. I see him not having the rail game for those conditions and the surfing I've seen in bigger conditions supports that; when I say bigger i mean Sunset and places where the water is moving. He has one two contests with flat spins on closeouts. Surfing and judging is supposed to take more in to account then that. Furthermore, at what point is it no longer progression when he repeatedly does the same trick? From a financial standpoint, I know the WSL wants a Brazilian to win the title, so it will be one of the 3. Watch how Jordy gets judged at Pipe and tell me I'm crazy.

Italo deserved the win here, for sure. However, not sure how that first air warranted a 10 when Jordys air in the semis was better/cleaner (IMO) and got a 9.33? Anyways, good surfing but would like to see more variety
Kevin Van Brunt In absolutely no way Jordy`s wave was better than Ítalo`s as it was slower and Jordy GRABS THE BOARD with one hand to help in the execution. Ítalo`s wave was faster, covered more area and Ítalo didn’t grab the board at any time.

I'm just gonna say this: as soon as the event turned aerial exclusive I was out. If I wanted to see people jump on a board I'd go watch halfpipe skateboarding. When you're there to watch surf, and not individuals it's extremely boring.
Shame on WSL for not waiting until Sunday Morning to run the last 3 heats in crazy barrels.
And no, I don't give a damn about who wins, I just wanna see exciting surfing and perfect waves. Not 2 guys jumping with a board.

Here are the WSL Official Judging Criteria:
Commitment and degree of difficulty
Innovative and progressive maneuvers
Combination of major maneuvers
Variety of maneuvers
Speed, power and flow
The WSL Judges have thrown about half the criteria out the window. Fine if you like watching endless single maneuver waves. To keep these events interesting (and keep the Judges honest) why not put a top number on the score for a single maneuver wave? Maybe 9.5? That's a good score, yes?

freeridefried which doesn’t change anything for me. When Medina messed up and didn’t see the priority flag I said the same thing, he was wrong, no matter what he thought.
If you surf you’ll know what I mean, bought manoeuvers seems similar, but the complexity are different when you use your hand as an auxiliar.

felipe sancler WSL has a long history of over- and underjudging. It was a rad manoeuvre and at the bottom line he surfed better than Jordy, but it simply wasn’t a 10.
