I kinda like the standard A959 and A959-A with the 380 motor and lower gearing. Much lesser heat and more run time (and more control). So for me, no, the 540 motor in the A959-B is only for crazy speed runs (that can be fun too though).
Ive had my A959 for 4 years now maybe more, I love it, I have upgraded it alot but out the Box it's fantastic anyway, am going to get the A959 B eventually, fantastic unboxing, the body is different, Love the red one, the remote control is different to, Nice collection and great Video my friend 😁😀😁😀😁
I just ordered the A959A for £40. It will be my first ever RCC. Have the feeling i should have got the faster 1 but i maybe wrong. Anything else i should buy to get started up?
Nice! Congrats. Well, it’s fast enough as it is in my opinion 🙂 You can always buy more batteries for it later, and with a LiPo battery (and a small external LiPo alarm and LiPo charger ) it will be as fast as the standard version.
@@sta_bang i love mine, great fun and seriously quick. I drove it full speed into a wall and snapped the suspension. Easy and cheap to repair and i love it. A very clear and professional presentation, Mikael! I would be happy with any of them! Looking forward to more testing! All the best my friend - I hope the moving in is going well.
Thanks, Mark! Yeah, fun little runners. Wish I had time to test them out more, but at least I now have a little bit of footage from the new place with the A-version (editing now) I tiptoed out for a couple of minutes :-) Yeah, we've started to move some things but still just preparing the new house in the weekend and still in the City and working through the week. I'm lucky to get just a couple of hours in a whole week for my hobby/videos these days :-) But when spring time comes it will all be worth it. The best to you too, Mark!
Thanks and thanks for watching. Well, I haven’t tried it so I can’t be absolutely sure, but I have seen videos with the A959 doing alright in the snow. And the A-version is marketed as ‘waterproof’ on the box and I can see some epoxy-kind of stuff inside the ESC. So my best guess would be ‘yes’ ☺️
I am sorry but I am desperate for help! I have tried the same Spektrum servo in two different Tamiya kits and neither work properly. In one the servo does not seem to centre properly and needs to be trimmed completely one way (it was pre-centred before installing and checked and double-checked). Just started building the DT-03 and the Tamiya Horn Adapter does not fit well and the screw ends of being too short on the same servo. Is there a better brand of servo to use for Tamiya kits? What do you use? Any help would be so appreciated!
Hi Daryl. Sorry for the late reply. I believe all standard sized spektrum servos should work just as well with a Tamiya kit as every other brand. Have you used the correct screw, horn or servo saver? There's different kinds of standards with different amount of teeth and they require different kinds of screws. All the different kinds of standards should be supplied with the Tamiya kit (side by side in the servo-parts-tree). I've never had a Tamiya kit where I couldn't find the right servo saver and screw for my servo (10-20 different servo brands at least).
@@NordicRC Thanks for the reply! I tried all three servo horns provided and the only one that fits is slightly loose. All the screws provided are the same length and they need to be longer by a couple of mm or so. I am thinking of just buying a different brand of servo and seeing if that works better. What are a few of your preferred brands to use with the Tamiya kits?
Ahh, yeah, Strange. Maybe it’s not that standard at all. The length of the screw sounds very strange, since the length required shouldnt really be defined by the servo but more by the servo horn or servo saver. But maybe it’s a kind of servo and issue that I’ve never seen before. I’ve used a lot of standard Tamiya, Sanwa, Futaba, LRP, Carson among others in mine.
Check out my video with the A959-A on LiFe (or I what I thought at that time was a Li-Ion) and LiPo. Much faster on LiPo. But yeah, the down side is that it doesn't have a LiPo cut-off. So a LiPo and an external LiPo alarm (costs pennies on eBay).
Got another video with the gear ratio of both the standard and the B-version. But the A is basically a standard version with a different transmitter and battery included.
@@NordicRC Thanks for replying and yes, I did see your other vid moments later where you tore down and analysed the difference between A and B version. That was helpful. Thanks

Yeah, they are great fun. I also like that this “slow” A959-A exists. It’s really perfect for youngsters and beginners, especially with the throttle Dual Rate.
@@NordicRC yessir bought the a959a as a gift to my son to get him out driving with me. He talks about it for hours afterwards. Your channel is great btw
Thanks! Pretty excited to get my hands on this one. Yeah, well, there actually just are three. I think this one is so perfect for the young ones, with less top speed and punch due to the 6.4v li-ion and the transmitter with the throttle Dual Rate. One could make it go quite slow and then increase the speed, as the young one is getting more familiar with the control. And well, then there is the standard one (the good one for everyday running in my opinion) and then the crazy one. Think these three kinda make up a great trio which means everyone can get the car, RTR, that they prefer. But yeah, from a business point of view, I agree, it’s really a massive spin-off production on one single set up ☺️ WLToys must be swimming in money, I think.
Wow the tx comes with throttle dr? Previously they didn't. They use to come with that common red color tx without th dr. At some point i am hoping they come with A959 brushless
Oh, didn't know. Interesting. Sure it was the A-version and not the B or standard? Not seen any A-versions with other tx's than this. Yeah, could be cool with an RTR brushless A959. But at least it's easy and cheap to make one oneself.
Some dealers say it is, some say splash-proof and some say nothing :-) It definitely got a thick layer of epoxy on the ESC and I haven't had problems running this in wet conditions. But I haven't really driven it into deep water. I hear some have had luck with it, others have not had any luck with it.
Great unboxing and comparison Mikael. I just don't know how you keep track of all the transmitters you must now have. They must take up almost as much space as the cars themselves lol. I must admit that's one of the reasons why I love Tamiya kits as you get to decide what electronics go into them. All the best with the move and hope you are settled in really soon mate.
Thanks Rob! Yeah, well, I've got rid of a lot of my extra 2.4G on my non-RTR vehicles, and just use a lot of the same receivers like you. But yes, those stock RTR model's transmitters do take up some space. But since I also keep the boxes (which takes up even more space) they rest there nicely. I label most of them.
I’m not sure which one, the B or A version came first (both came after the standard edition though). But yeah, it’s a bit cheaper and comes with the 6.4v Li-Ion battery. Combined with the smaller transmitter (for small hands) with the Dual Rate, I think this was an attempt to get hold of the youngest. And it really is perfect for the youngest. With the Dual Rate I think it can be set to a very low top speed, like 10-20 kph. I’m not sure if the transmitter is an improvement. It’s subjective I think. Personally I like it better, the looks and feel (though a bit small) with the build in antenna. But if one don’t plan to use the throttle Dual Rate the other would be better, with the throttle trim.
@@NordicRC I supposed it was better only because of the dual rate for the throttle... Not having it directly in my hands I didn't realize it could be so small. Ahh, yes, if I compared the A959-A to the A959 (same motor and gearing) I would definitly have mentioned it. But I also think it kinda says it all just by mentioning it. 6.4v Li-ion compared to 7.4v LiPo really means a massive difference when it comes to both punch and top speed. Ohh, and I seriously doubt it would be able to do 35 kph with the 6.4 Li-ion. I’ve measured the A959 with the 2S LiPo to 40 kph, so I think the A959-A will go below 35 kph.
Ohh, I have no idea. Only one way to find out 😉 I doubt the A959-B would handle it with it’s 540 motor and especially the high gearing. ESC/Motor get’s extremely hot very fast even on the stock 2S.
