    Here we have the first part of ConsoleX that can come out and be put into use, just as it will be used in ConsoleX.
    You see, the upcoming Console system is the big one with all the EQs and multiple dynamics paths and StoneFire built in, and it's got so much going on it requires the development of an elaborate GUI (for which a lot of work has already been done). But the guts of the system remains Airwindows Console and that gets its own development. Console is the system by which all the sound sources get pre-distorted and then un-distorted on the buss after summing, for a sound that (in theory) doesn't touch the tones of any individual mix element, but alters the spaces between the sounds.
    So when using Console (or any version like Console9 that's strict about this) you should expect to hear exactly the same sounds you originally had, but they'll sit differently. They'll make up a more convincing space, in a subtle way that shouldn't mess with your sounds, that will just make it easier to make those sounds gel into a mix that feels good.
    The reason I say it's also the part that will be used IN ConsoleX, is because I'm adopting some Chris Lord-Alge-isms in ConsoleX. My take on how sends and verbs and things should be handled in ConsoleX is to use them kind of like Console8 uses submixes: you'll be sending stuff from channels to other channels that have the verbs on them.
    The difference is, when you do that you put Console9Buss at the top of the sent-to channel… put in your verb or whatever, all wet… and then run the result through ANOTHER instance of ConsoleXChannel, and sum that. So, the idea is 'decode and then recode, except you get literally all the processing from any ConsoleXChannel, all over again, on the verb or delay returns'. And then you adjust those the same way you'd adjust any other channel: they just come in on even more channels, and all the same features apply. And so, Console9Buss is your 'decode' for making further verb stuff happen, because you don't need to run the full ConsoleXBuss to do that.

    I love these videos man, all the vsts are awesome and definetly more ear-oriented than many others, especially paid
    I really hope you add auto-gain/output gain & perhaps a bypass button to ToTape8 whenever that happens. Keep up the great work, Chris! 🔥

      I have an eye on ways to cut down the Dubly control count so I can fit an output gain and still have it load up in Consolidated. To the point that I'm prepared to say it: I'm going to fix Dubly aliasing (well, reduce it) and simplify it so there can be an output gain control. Might also rename tape drive to input gain which it basically is…

      @@airwindows 😱🤩 holy smokes, Chris! Very excited to see what you’ve got in store for us in the future! ToTape7 has gone on literally every drum bus I’ve done since I got it. Been pushing it into a limiter- used as a clipper to then turn down the output volume to match pre-tape. I really do appriciate all the work you’ve been putting in consistently over such an extended period of time. In the day and age where plugin manifacturers create EQ nr 729 that costs 300$, you’re truly a breath of fresh air, Chris, I hope you keep on working doing what you love while giving unprecedented amounts of gifts to the audio community. So again, thank you for letting us use your amazing software for free. Love you buddy 😎

    I assume we could very roughly pre-construct a ConsoleX setup with Parametric -> Stonefire -> Console9? Btw your recent work has been staggeringly good, really glad I subbed to you patreon. Your plugins have allowed me to capture sounds I never though I'd be able to. Thank you!

    • @airwindows
      @airwindows  3 дні тому +5

      A little bit, and I'll try to keep releasing more bits! There's the highpass and lowpass too. And the way ConsoleX actually works, the routing is quite complicated with a lot of stuff in parallel: you can't do dynamics on Stone and Fire independently while also letting through uncompressed bands of Parametric, but that's how ConsoleX does it. More on it as I get more working :)

    Opening the usage of the CONTROLX surface for general MIDI purposes would be amazing, in case someone wants to switch between using CONTROLX and using it as a general purpose Midi, and moving the marketing that way to let people know they could have a good MIDI controller for other purposes, and maybe satisfying some video users? Thanks for sharing your work and projects.

    • @airwindows
      @airwindows  2 дні тому

      You misunderstand. It's simply a YAELTEX custom control surface, it already is general purpose. I just assigned everything to ConsoleX, but you could go make one right now in YAELTEX Factory (takes a while for them to build tho) and duplicate everything I did. I paid full price, too, as you would: it's not MY control surface company. It's a company that lets you customize their stuff a huge amount. You can get all sorts of other stuff from them too. I just designed a ConsoleX control layout and had them make it :)

    Chris, is there an optimal level for this plugin?
    Or at least a range when it should sound the best?

    • @airwindows
      @airwindows  2 дні тому

      I have designed it so if you run it into something to clip or limit overs, you should be able to mix straight to final 'mastered' version. That's 'mastered properly', which means stuff can go up to clipping fairly often but LUFS is going to be around -14dBFS. It ought to sound good with the body of the sound anywhere from -28 LUFS to probably around -10 LUFS: if you're pushing the song to be loud it's meant to be summed that way, with clipping or limiting catching the overs. In other words, mix into it without being scared of clips, and have something after Console9 to catch that stuff. I'm probably going to end up using ToTape8 for that, but have been using ClipOnly2 :) you can also use ADClip8 if you prefer that one. It goes AFTER Console9Buss.

  • @benjamineisenhofer8174
    @benjamineisenhofer8174 5 годин тому

    Hi Chris, I run into behaviour I'm not sure is intended. I run Reaper on Debian Linux and I use the VST plugins.
    The default value of all console9 plugins is 0.5 when I insert them.
    I have a sound source with -10.5 dB
    I put the channel behind my sound source, the level drops to -16 dB
    I put the buss in the master, the level drops to -17 dB
    To retain the overall level of my signal, I need to set the channel fader to 0.703 and the buss fader to 0.518
    If I don't correct the faders and have several code/decode combinations (channel on track, buss and channel on group, buss and channel on a sub, buss on master), then the levels are all over the place.
    I don't know whether I'm doing anything wrong?

    i had to read the desc to understand what was happening. man. i’m not sure i could hear it at all 😆 not a pro mixing engineer or anything here.
    also the desc mentioned things about channel routing and stuff… what if you made your own DAW with this stuff built in? it seems funny to have plugins that (correct me if i’m wrong) have anything to do with routing or summing to channels of an emulated console or whatnot.
