Piobaireachd came into the Gaidhealtachd firstly via the harp via the Italian family of Cremona who came to Skye to server the MacLeods of Dunvegan as harpers (clarsairean). Hence the MacCrimmons!. When the pipes became the court instrument superseding the harp, the melodies and compositions with ornamentations were transferred form the harp to the pipes.

Eh. Strings go out of tune. It’s the playing that counts. M. Chadwick’s ceol mor opens the ears to a stream of Western music completely distinct from the Italian-based continental mainstream. It flows through our cultural DNA, the voice of our ancestors. Why so few views? Where is everybody? - Kyokureki
