Lena Horne was beautiful even at 80 years old- Her features never changed. She was voted in the 90's one of the most beautiful women ever by People magazine-

Terrific number! Great singer, arrangement, and even the staging (especially with the mirrors). "Thousands Cheer" was one of of those WW2 all-star movies built around an inconsequential plot (involving Gene Kelly). Better to have ditched the "storyline" and just had a series of great musical numbers... as MGM would do a couple years later in "Zeigfeld Follies".

Today, May 9, 2020 marks ten years since she died in 2010 of congestive heart failure at the age of 92. Lena Horne , the enchanting jazz singer known for her signature song, “Stormy Weather,” and for her triumph over bigotry that allowed her to entertain white audiences but not socialize with them, died in New York.

An astonishingly beautiful number, artistically photographed and performed. One would think this was taken from a classic MGM musical when, in truth, the movie is horrible and understandably forgotten. So much Metro talent wasted in a cornball WWII yarn. Even Judy - at the peak of her '40's loveliness - sings a totally forgettable song (and is costumed dreadfully). Curious , to say the least.

After her death, a little known bit of history came out about her. It seems Mrs. Lena funded a school in the Bronx, for the poor kids there. Once, a white child was refused there, because of his color. Mrs. Horn, after finding out about this, asked the school if they liked her supporting them? Then informed them, that if they did not allow all kids from poor families there, she would pull her funding. It seems Mrs. Horn, was raised there, in a poor family, and was trying her best to give the kids there a better chance, like she had gotten from someone. But she refused to play the race card. I would like to see that tramp of a fake star, Beyonce, even make an effort to do something like that. Mrs. Horn, did not only have class, she was even minded, and non-racial. This is why Mrs. Horn will always be more than a lot of the so-called stars today.

Though certainly not the most elaborate, I always thought this was the most glamorous and sophisticated of all the MGM musical numbers. Too bad it is stuck in such a forgettable movie.
