One thing I don't understand, we know the media especially kmedia always lie about BTS but the moment they share something about the members, we fell for it. Some even jumping in anger, tweeting fake news non stop-some only, the rest don't buy it but the noise is exaggeratingly loud.

No, BTS weren't given an exemption (the Government and Military were tossing the idea around for several years) but they were allowed to defer it for a couple of years (the so called BTS Law - because only they have achieved the requirements to qualify for it) . However the members did choose When to enlist, because the Maknae line did not have to do so for a few more years. BTS actually planned, and timed, their enlistment periods perfectly, I think. So we were only 6 months with all members enlisted - and they filled those 6 months with so much content (including new albums), it's sometimes hard to remember they were gone (you get what I mean). And in 7 months the remaining members will be discharged. In the meantime we have Jin - who raced out of the military and straight into an intense schedule of album making, MVs, and promotions; The Olympics; Run Jin; and other activities - and Hobi, who is clearly working on something himself. I suspect the will be keeping us busy for a while yet. Another thing, before going into the military BTS signed their 3rd contract with Big Hit, which comes into effect in 2025 (post discharge). BTS - for their 2nd and 3rd contracts - signed their new contracts quite sometime before their existing contracts expired, giving themselves plenty of time for negotiations. Unlike other groups that may wait until their existing contract is close to expiring (or even expired). BTS do it so they not only have plenty of time for the negotiation process, but also there is a seamless transition from one contract to another. It's a very smart strategy, one that involves planning for the Long Term.

BTS never asked to be exempted or receive any special treatment in regards to their military service. Whenever BTS was asked about their military service prior to enlistment they would always say it was their duty as a South Korean male citizen to serve and they would do so when called.

Besides this wasnt the first time other fans and kpop news channels were so sure BTS would disband. Because of the 7-year curse of kpop (all kpop groups have disbanded after 7 years or less) but BTS is still here 11 years later!!!
I think a lot of k-pop industry WANTED them to disband. Their remarkable rags to riches story, the hate from k-pop companies that motivated them to work so absolutely hard, and then that made them the very best. No other group has this bond. Their labels saw BTS's success and copied many things. But you come right down to it, the others don't have what BTS has, the creativity and the bond.

And we real ARMYs have been just trusting them and supporting them from the start and will till the end !! Yes it was BTS choice to enlist bc 75% of koreans wanted them to get exempted and the governments was discussing to do so but it was taking too long which affected BTS schedules so BTS just decided to enlist altogether.....
Lets make this clear. BTS were never officially exempted, they had to enlist so no it wasn't a choice on their part. They only got to choose when to enlist. And to be honest I don't think they would've accepted an exemption anyways. I don't think they wanted to face the backlash from not serving. They know most men in SK have to serve no matter what and BTS didn't want the special treatment.

Like I said, it had been in discussion for 5 yrs at that point & Jin's deadline was in 2 months. If Gov had not decided by then, they were never going to give it.

This was such an informative video! I'm a 2023 ARMY and had to wade through all the conflicting feelings of if BTS were really going to come back together or not without the knowledge of everything that happened or that they said. It was confusing at first and I got really depressed thinking they'd never be BTS again. But now I know better and trust our boys. If they say they're coming back as a group after the military, then that's exactly what will happen.

The exemption thing was complicated af. NO they were not offered one, but they might have been after the government milked the fuck out of them, i feel like the government was hoping for BTS to keep working for them as sort of ambassadors, especially for the world expo bid (like the FREE Busan Concert), which South Korea ultimately failed in securing anyways. But BTS pulled UNO reverse and announced that they WANTED and were going to enlist anyways. I don't know what each member's opinion/thoughts are about enlistment, but Jin has said multiple times that he will enlist when time comes, and that the delay in his enlistment especially as the oldest and not being able to address the issue in public caused him some mental distress for sure because that poor boy was literally harassed since he was like 24-25 (an age most idols don't even think about the military at) about enlistment by media and antis, Yoongi too sometimes. Ultimately, I, personally think enlisting was the best decision they made because if they had been exempted, that exemption would have become something hanging above their heads like a boulder forever, they truly freed themselves from this topic forever by enlisting. This also gave time and freedom to each member for their own personal artistic development, because Chapter 2 has been one of THE most artistically free and beautiful eras i have ever seen from any artist, this has definitely brought the fandom closer to each member as individuals rather than just as a group and allowed them to explore, get healthier and come back stronger. This just a personal opinion, though :)
Poor Jin suffered from mental depression from all the hate cos the group wanted to do a few shows before he enlists but was accused of trying to avoid Ms but he has always said he will do it. Kmedia and the public can be really mean. It’s a miracle he is so strong. People should show Jin more love. He is the only one quietly preparing and reassuring the brothers cos all were anxious as they have heard many bad things happening in military service. He was so alone and had a huge burden to ensure that BTS reputation remains flawless. He worked so hard and despite being very tired, he continued his support to members especially to Jhope who was next to enlist. He constantly reassure the rest when their time got near. Now that he is out, even if he acts nonchalant and seem to be teasing the members who are still in service, we know he cares for them deeply and it’s his way to motivate them.❤
At first I wanted them to be exempt (and don't get me wrong they totally deserved to be) but at the same if they had and they accepted the exemption I would feel like the SK government would hold it over BTS' heads and I don't know how the Korean public would've received their exemption.

They respect each other so much, perso llay and professionally, that it makes sense to them to remain together. They will prob. need to re-adapt and work on how to balance both the solo and team career, but at least they all have stated they are willing to make it work. Only time will tell. One of the things that was so unsettling that I wish they had handled differently was announcing the enlistments. We all knew it was "any minute now" but it just wasn't coming. They had Festa 2022 where RM broke down announcing they were moving into their own places and would be working on solo projects but nothing about the military service. If they'd said we're each going to put out something, enlist, and all be back in Summer 2025 I think it would have reduced a lot of anxiety but for whatever reason they kept going until October, did that concert to help for Busan's bid for expo, and then we got the news about Jin enlisting, the Astronaut and Indigo. I still wonder why they chose to hide it til the last minute! They certainly looked very uneasy withholding the news 🤷💜

BTS didn't have any exemptions of the military services. Suga had physical reasons due an accident that he couldn't do regular military services. The rest were healthy enough to serve. They were fulfilling their required service.

Never was a fan of 1Direction or any other 'Boy Band' or 'Girl Band' and when 1Direction went on hiatus I knew it was a lie as I knew they'd signed with other labels and disbanded.
They received and extension they only Kpop artists to receive it but they never asked for it. It's a interesting saga. The then big 2 Kpop companies and some smaller one's got together and petitioned the SK government for their artist to have the exception from the military and cited BTS as their example of why Kpop Artist should be treated like some classical artist. However they never invited BTS or BigHit to that discussion and they weren't signed up to The Paper that was presented to the the SK Government. What happened was a real slap in the face for those Kpop Companies as the South Korean changed the law saying that men could put off their enlistment until their 30th birthday the cut off is 28years. The stipulation being the only popular culture artist (KPOP) who had been award the Cultural Merit Award. The only Kpop artist who hold the Cultural Merit Award are BTS. The other kpop companies demanded the law be changed back, but that's not happened. So the only BTS were allowed to wait until their 30th birthdays before enlisting and as we know they all applied before their 30th Birthdays with the younger members going a lot earlier then they had to by law.
Them having to do military is honestly the most ridiculous thing. But I think in the end bts and army will be stronger for it and hopefully the sk government will change their ways for 4th gen groups.

I would be a little careful with boracity. I love BTS, they are one of my favourites, but I am a multi-stan. I love a lot of groups. And this channel can be very dismissive of other kpop groups and their achievements or relationships with each other.
the boys weren't offered an exemption, but they were granted an EXTENSTION meaning they were able to wait until they were 30 to go to the military because i believe, you have to serve by 28? The funny thing was the government created the “BTS Law” that allowed for the extension under limited conditions, the Cultural Merit Medal was one. BTS we’re the only ones that qualified. Agencies were trying to get KPop artist exempt like classical musicians and gold medal winners but BTS never participated in that, they made it clear they were going💜
I think the Western media always treated BTS as a boy band that “shot to fame” (not true), but wouldn’t last and when they reported the “hiatus” it was almost like, “See, we were right. They were a flash in the pan.” Western media never really got BTS and were always too lazy to even try.
I just think they use the word ''Hiatus'' for clicks, because if you are an reputable news source, you don't speculate about things. And even if you do that you can do your research, and find out that the k pop Industry is different from the ''normal music Industry''.

I know I should not say this here but All people say that this or this group can be "THE NEXT BTS" but as an ARMY...I will say, first make a fandom like ARMY who just trusts and supports their Artists !! Yes it was BTS choice to enlist bc 75% of koreans wanted them to get exempted and the governments was discussing to do so but it was taking too long which affected BTS schedules so BTS just decided to enlist altogether.....
Lets make this clear. BTS were never officially exempted, they had to enlist so no it wasn't a choice on their part. They only got to choose when to enlist. And to be honest I don't think they would've accepted an exemption anyways. I don't think they wanted to face the backlash from not serving. They know most men in SK have to serve no matter what and BTS didn't want the special treatment.
The government was never going to give them an exemption. They were discussing it for 5 years, at that point, they were never going to do it.

Like I said, it had been in discussion for 5 yrs at that point & Jin's deadline was in 2 months. If Gov had not decided by then, they were never going to give it.

This was such an informative video! I'm a 2023 ARMY and had to wade through all the conflicting feelings of if BTS were really going to come back together or not without the knowledge of everything that happened or that they said. It was confusing at first and I got really depressed thinking they'd never be BTS again. But now I know better and trust our boys. If they say they're coming back as a group after the military, then that's exactly what will happen.

The exemption thing was complicated af. NO they were not offered one, but they might have been after the government milked the fuck out of them, i feel like the government was hoping for BTS to keep working for them as sort of ambassadors, especially for the world expo bid (like the FREE Busan Concert), which South Korea ultimately failed in securing anyways. But BTS pulled UNO reverse and announced that they WANTED and were going to enlist anyways. I don't know what each member's opinion/thoughts are about enlistment, but Jin has said multiple times that he will enlist when time comes, and that the delay in his enlistment especially as the oldest and not being able to address the issue in public caused him some mental distress for sure because that poor boy was literally harassed since he was like 24-25 (an age most idols don't even think about the military at) about enlistment by media and antis, Yoongi too sometimes.
Ultimately, I, personally think enlisting was the best decision they made because if they had been exempted, that exemption would have become something hanging above their heads like a boulder forever, they truly freed themselves from this topic forever by enlisting. This also gave time and freedom to each member for their own personal artistic development, because Chapter 2 has been one of THE most artistically free and beautiful eras i have ever seen from any artist, this has definitely brought the fandom closer to each member as individuals rather than just as a group and allowed them to explore, get healthier and come back stronger. This just a personal opinion, though :)
Poor Jin suffered from mental depression from all the hate cos the group wanted to do a few shows before he enlists but was accused of trying to avoid Ms but he has always said he will do it. Kmedia and the public can be really mean. It’s a miracle he is so strong. People should show Jin more love. He is the only one quietly preparing and reassuring the brothers cos all were anxious as they have heard many bad things happening in military service. He was so alone and had a huge burden to ensure that BTS reputation remains flawless. He worked so hard and despite being very tired, he continued his support to members especially to Jhope who was next to enlist. He constantly reassure the rest when their time got near. Now that he is out, even if he acts nonchalant and seem to be teasing the members who are still in service, we know he cares for them deeply and it’s his way to motivate them.❤

At first I wanted them to be exempt (and don't get me wrong they totally deserved to be) but at the same if they had and they accepted the exemption I would feel like the SK government would hold it over BTS' heads and I don't know how the Korean public would've received their exemption.

8:08 there was no exemption their government kept going back and forth so the guys decided to serve to stop the government wanting to control their future.
They respect each other so much, perso llay and professionally, that it makes sense to them to remain together. They will prob. need to re-adapt and work on how to balance both the solo and team career, but at least they all have stated they are willing to make it work. Only time will tell. We will be there for them 💜

One of the things that was so unsettling that I wish they had handled differently was announcing the enlistments. We all knew it was "any minute now" but it just wasn't coming. They had Festa 2022 where RM broke down announcing they were moving into their own places and would be working on solo projects but nothing about the military service. If they'd said we're each going to put out something, enlist, and all be back in Summer 2025 I think it would have reduced a lot of anxiety but for whatever reason they kept going until October, did that concert to help for Busan's bid for expo, and then we got the news about Jin enlisting, the Astronaut and Indigo. I still wonder why they chose to hide it til the last minute! They certainly looked very uneasy withholding the news 🤷💜

@@marirezende8478 yep. They kept it to themselves for good reason. They had been used as pawns long enough. I do agree that they really didn’t like having to withhold that info, but I think it was the right choice they did.
At least for me, once Busan was announced, I knew that would be it.

Part of it was you can say you would do something - like Jin actually did whenever the military service came up - but officially announced it was when he pretty much signed the waver and the papers for the enlistment.
Mind you people would have doubted either way and I like that they only announced it pretty much when they had signed the paper or were about to.
BTS didn't have any exemptions of the military services. Suga had physical reasons due an accident that he couldn't do regular military services. The rest were healthy enough to serve. They were fulfilling their required service.

Its not just culture difference most kpop bands disband the first year they debut
They received and extension they only Kpop artists to receive it but they never asked for it. It's a interesting saga. The then big 2 Kpop companies and some smaller one's got together and petitioned the SK government for their artist to have the exception from the military and cited BTS as their example of why Kpop Artist should be treated like some classical artist. However they never invited BTS or BigHit to that discussion and they weren't signed up to The Paper that was presented to the the SK Government. What happened was a real slap in the face for those Kpop Companies as the South Korean changed the law saying that men could put off their enlistment until their 30th birthday the cut off is 28years. The stipulation being the only popular culture artist (KPOP) who had been award the Cultural Merit Award. The only Kpop artist who hold the Cultural Merit Award are BTS. The other kpop companies demanded the law be changed back, but that's not happened. So the only BTS were allowed to wait until their 30th birthdays before enlisting and as we know they all applied before their 30th Birthdays with the younger members going a lot earlier then they had to by law.
Them having to do military is honestly the most ridiculous thing. But I think in the end bts and army will be stronger for it and hopefully the sk government will change their ways for 4th gen groups.
They were never offered exemption. They were allowed a postponement to age 30, when others have to enlist by 28. The South Korean government did them so dirty, dangling possible exemption, creating conditions to pressure them into doing the concert in Busan... it's disgusting how BTS has been representing SK and Kpop so well around the world while being mistreated by the government, the media, and the music industry there.

BTS had never asked for or said they wanted an exemption from military service & always said they would serve when called upon. The discourse around delays & exemption has been going on for ever & BTS were used as an example of why pop culture artists should be exempt - even though neither BTS or Big Hit asked for exemption. They were used. I don't think it's up to anyone outside of SK to say what is right or wrong for SK citizens
For us who in the k culture for more than 10 years we know its not like one direction and for the west to see them as RM say an alien because they don't know anything about them or the culture and think the west scales work on them as well

Nope. No exception.. we were granted postpone the enlistment for a couple of years, but eventually they were required to go.

I would be a little careful with boracity. I love BTS, they are one of my favourites, but I am a multi-stan. I love a lot of groups. And this channel can be very dismissive of other kpop groups and their achievements or relationships with each other.
the boys weren't offered an exemption, but they were granted an EXTENSTION meaning they were able to wait until they were 30 to go to the military because i believe, you have to serve by 28? (please correct me if i'm wrong) but i mean they did still choose to go earlier so they could come back quicker
I believe in BTS & while I understand how people worry they won’t come back, everyone knows that BTS is different. They are all committed to BTS first before anything else.

The funny thing was the government created the “BTS Law” that allowed for the extension under limited conditions, the Cultural Merit Medal was one. BTS we’re the only ones that qualified. Agencies were trying to get KPop artist exempt like classical musicians and gold medal winners but BTS never participated in that, they made it clear they were going💜

I think the Western media always treated BTS as a boy band that “shot to fame” (not true), but wouldn’t last and when they reported the “hiatus” it was almost like, “See, we were right. They were a flash in the pan.” Western media never really got BTS and were always too lazy to even try.
