What's strange about the Horn is it can go from brassy, to dark, to light, to sounding almost like a woodwind, to sounding almost like a tuba. Astounding instrument to say the least.
I think the horn is also Notoriously difficult to record, it is extremely difficult to record something like this and get people to Feel the effect that the horn has on an audience in this kind of setting.... Not easy at all, which makes this video even more Special I think...
The playing in this video is essentially unbelievable. Those who don't play the horn may realize that it is beautiful, but those who do will realize that it is incredible.
Such artistry. Every part represented with such musicality. And God of low horn Sarah just busting out pedal notes like they're nothing!! This really is the section every horn player should strive to be a part of!
What a great sound -- I can't think of another single instrument that could sound so textured and colorful and varied when there's ten of just them on stage. It sounds like a whole brass band.
It is an octave (from C to C) in 16th notes, with the G being repeated. It becomes apparent exactly what the rhythm and notes are when you listen with the mindset of ignoring the re-tonguing of the G, and think of it as an eighth note.
@Doorny1 Yes, there is a site where this "Freischütz" arrangement by Klaus Wallendorf can be downloaded as sheet music: HEAVY BRASS - The Austrian Brass Music Maker -> then search for "Der Freischuetz"
"Berliner Philharmonic horn", gracias por este video. Nos sirve a todos los trompistas del mundo como ejemplo de la perfeccion que sois capaces de lograr. Sencillamente maravilloso.
Bonjour, j'aimerais savoir comment s'appelle la deuxième partie de cette vidéo, celle qui précède l'ouverture du Freischütz. Merci de votre réponse. Hello, I would like to know what is called the second part of this video, the one that precedes the opening of the Freischütz. Thank you for your reply.
Now that I hear it again carefully I think you are correct. It is not chromatic but appears to be a major scale played with 2 beats of 16th notes on beats 3 & 4 of the measure and a quarter note on beat 1 of the following measure. I'm still not sure how many notes I'm hearing, 8 16ths and a 9th quarter? Would love to see the music. I wanted to ask on their facebook page but didn't find a place for the public to ask questions.
Is there a place i can download the sheet music? I have been searching all over for the cd but can't seem to find it... I play French horn in a community band & this piece would be nice to play w my other horn players.
.. (vagabundo infraomnisciente Latno).. Y CURA ALMAS.!!!.
Are you sure it's chromatic? I initially thought it was a C major scale starting from middle G to high C. However, whenever I try to play this measure (by ear), it feels like I'm not playing enough notes, like Stefan does...

It's the greatest, but I am naturally biased. Cheers!
Noe you just have to figure out how to play all those ways and more for yourself. Its beautiful and fun... for me at least.

I am in awe of Stefan's chromatic runs at the end of the piece. He covers 2 octaves in one measure and does it twice.
I think it's major, not chromatic. still impressive though
@@jbaylies Yep. F major concert scales. Played EXTREMELY quickly!!
Such artistry. Every part represented with such musicality. And God of low horn Sarah just busting out pedal notes like they're nothing!! This really is the section every horn player should strive to be a part of!
Holy crap that's a pedal D at 1:18. Amazing.
Notice throughout how well done Stefan's attacks are executed. His sound is flawless.
What a great sound -- I can't think of another single instrument that could sound so textured and colorful and varied when there's ten of just them on stage. It sounds like a whole brass band.
Hurt trumpet players everywhere!
Look up trombone ensembles.
Incredible low playing!!!
Sarah Willis
Nothing more to say

@fhorn0player
Sarah Willis, Stefan Jezierski, Fergus McWilliam, Daniel Adam, Norbert Hauptmann, Klaus Wallendorf, Georg Schreckenberger, Stefan Dohr
Stefan Dohr is one of the greatest horn players of all time.
amazing full smoothness down low to the clear highs, all well-blended. lovely performance!
Stunning power and precision. I have truly never heard such a blessed sound before, in all my many years.
Those low notes are amazing.
that scale near the end... simply ridiculous! well done!
Everything sounds great and I cant belive thats all horns playing
Sarah is awesome at playing those low notes with excellence.
Oh my god! Their last note is just AMAZING!! It leaves me speechless.
Wow, what an astonishingly wonderful sound these horns make.
@Corbinxt
The horn type they're playing is "Alexander 103" from the manufacturer 'Gebrueder Alexander' in Mainz (Germany).
Perfect sound. Harmony and rich music meke me happy. Berlin Phil horn section is NO.1 horn section in the world. wonderful!
I love the berlin horns! I wish I could play with them :(
This is the best the world has to offer.
What an offer it is :)

Hi- Low
Siete fantastici! *-* Sarah sei il mio idolo!
@Corbinxt Though, seven of the eight players are playing Alexander 103's, Herr Wallendorf appears to be playing an Alexander 1103, Heldenhorn model.
I would adore hearing the horn section play Schumann's Konzertstücke. They would slay that piece!
This is just so ridiculously good
love french horns a lot
beautiful shape beautiful sound.
"Berliner Philharmonic horn", gracias por este video. Nos sirve a todos los trompistas del mundo como ejemplo de la perfeccion que sois capaces de lograr. Sencillamente maravilloso.

sounds very good!
Como é bom ouvir trompas, som majestoso e sublime.
Only very old hymnals print "My Jesus, As Thou Wilt," with the Von Weber tune (The first in their sequence.). It's a magnificent set of lyrics too.
Sublime!!!...Amazing!!!....;Las trompas aquí suenan como algo Divino,Excelso,Grandioso....
@pbj4toast They say "Hossa!" like the choire ("o diese Sonne") in the original song of the Opera.
Beatiful!
@pbj4toast It sounds like they are saying "opah!" which if it were in Portuguese would be something like saying "wow!".
Unbelievable......masters, well actually 100 times higher than level of masters....that low playing is on an uncharted level!
A hymnal with feeling!.
Thank you :-)
Eine große Musikerin
3:44 I'm so glad they bleeped that swear out.
