Guys, just take it easy for a while, this is FIRST demo, just going through sound presets of 8-part multi, 128 poly supersynth. That's a whole lot of music from one 2k euro instrument. While we complain about price of this, we are happy to pay same sum from Moog Matriarch - but try playing an electronic music live gig with just Matriarch? Personally, I am blown out of water on how this sounds and what it can do for my music, when used together with few analog monosynths, perhaps a Digitone and/or Wavetable synth. But I believe I hear that it has its own sonic character/aesthetics and and re the price - it's basically 8 Kyra synths with individual outputs in one box. I'd love to try one hands-on despite being well-supplied with VA synths .

I didn't get a TI2 because I was waiting for the Kyra. But now that the internet has started uploading Kyra demos, I'm wondering if I should have gotten the old synth instead of waiting for the new one.
You guys need to up your analog emulation game to yamaha and roland levels. Totally love the features on your synths but I've always put off purchasing waldorf synths because they sound sterile. Maybe you can do it with this unit with a later update, idk.
To be honest with you, it sounds great, but it does not sound far better than any other synth. It is not going to change the world. And what I hear for that price in 2019 it is not outstanding. I am sorry. Honest opinion. And just for the record I am a PPG/Waldorf fan.
Addition, you should focus on taking wavetable synthesis to the next level. There are too good software options out there which are more user friendly to program and to create wavetables than the hardware options.
I'd better start saving up for a quantum, what a synth! This kyra is way overpriced IMHO. Maybe a blofeld 2 with some improved wavetables features and sampling would be a great addition to the waldorf family..
It’s way more inspiring to use hardware. I feel much more creative and inspired using a physical synth over staring at a computer screen. Also, it has its own unique sound and feature set so nothing else could do exactly what this does and sound exactly the way this does.
Can someone please give a valid reason why this synth has no endless rotary knobs? I mean come on! It makes more sense for live performance. Its a digital synth so why not??
Waldorf STVC is out and I have one. It’s improved over the streichfett with a lot more options, the mod matrix although limited gives a lot of options for sound design. STVC makes the behringer vc340 sound like a cheap toy. As for the Kyra I’d like to see some reviews before making a final decision, has a lot of power but I’ve not heard anything that blows me away or that any other 2 grand synth could not do...
I was really looking forward to this synth, but, like you, I didn't really hear anything here that I haven't heard before on many other current and former synths. I'd like to see another demo that really pushes everything to the limit. I want to hear sounds I haven't heard, before.
Waldorf REALLY needs to hire some good sound designers. These sounds show little creativity and feel like they are made just as starting points for creating your own sounds. But guess what? That's an approach many other rivals are doing already. Rivals with much less experience than you. Waldorf meant something in the past. If you want to keep up your reputation, you will need a more impressive demo than this video. Take a good look at the Prophet X, or many incredible software synths like Dune etc. You have the power, now you need the right designers.
I have a Blofeld and have been enjoying it, but so far I haven't really seen any Kyra demos which indicate that it would be much of an upgrade. From the specs, it seems like it should trounce my cheap old synth, but the demos so far tell a different story. People like me would probably be a lot more willing to buy the Kyra if it had interesting presets and compelling demos which show what it's capable of. Like, 5-10 minutes of individual patches, and then show maybe a minute each of ten complete songs of different genres made with nothing but the Kyra and a sequencer. This thing is a whole orchestra in a box, so show us how well it can do that.
I’m also not convinced it’s great value as the competition, people says sounds like a Virus, is retailing for £1500 and the very sexy looking Polar (with a small keyboard) for the same price as a Kyra, plus the ‘wow not heard a synth sounding this good’ UDO super 6 just a mere £300 more.
Looks like it should have been a hardware version of CA Alchemy, it’s a shame it isn’t. Just a thought guy’s 😬 it’s very stable looking I give you that, for the right person with the right performance in mind and deeper pockets than me, it’s probably just what’s needed,.
-no audio rate lfo-s ( only 14 Hz ) , -No filter FM -no math functions in the modmatrix ANd from the manual ' quote osc sync and fm don't go together well .. end quote what we're you guys smoking ?? This is not the waldorf we're used to , the modulation spec's are below par , we don't need a gazillion voices , we need a powerfull audio rate enabled modmatrix
@@WARDISWARD *thanks! Would you also say it's the best 8+ part multi-timbral synth? Or which one instead? I want to go outside the box, for making analog sounding / warm techno..*
I think some of you are being too critical. This is more of a string / background synth. It's not meant to sit up front in a mix. It adds ambience. Good for many things, just not dance floor tracks so much. I am guessing you can get more out of it though too.
Seems like it doesn't even have the VESA mount anymore, according to someone who received theirs.. so sliding rack shelf or buggering around with rubber clamps/drilling into the wooden cheeks (ouch).. I think I'll pass for now.. it's another Peak situation. Really amazing that companies can make such designs these days and not consider the common use cases for a synth of these dimensions
In my opinion at nearly 2k asking price I think its a bit overpriced. considering the choice you have now for true analogue polyphonic synthesizers costing less. Just my opinion.
Show me something that sounds as good or better with the same feature set... Don't get me wrong.. I'll be getting the Behringer CS-80 clone but this is a sure buy to unless i hear better.
And one more time it's been demonstrated that "super high res audio" has 0 effect. Had this on my "maybe" shopping list until I heard it - and saw the price of 2k. Two grands? Common. I mean I like that it's future proof and has insane voice counts yet I cannot hear any difference to average plugin synths, it's even quite boring as others pointed out already. I got 3 digital hardware synths here that do not fall into this category and all manage to produce a very unique, fat sound (Peak, Pro 2, System 1)
hmm...for the price and could nearly buy a Hydrasynth and a Peak in one go...maybe it is a bit unfair and I really think that this will be a great Synth. But you have to work on your marketing and find someone who make better presets and videos :-)
*Only 100 Units are Out now, for Reviewers and Early Adopters !!* *We normal Synth-Freaks must wait a little bit, may be 1 or 2 Month, so its a good Christmas-Gift ;)* *Much Greetings from Hamburg !*
I have a lot of Waldorf gear but I'm not convinced about the Kyra. I am not going to but it just because it has a Waldorf badge. Demowise I've not heard anything outstanding and I'll be worried the real power is accessible in deeper menus. If only 100 are released then I'll wait because the UDO Super 6 looks and sounds great.
sounds boomy and digital. The distortion at the beginning sounded horrid. To me, it sounds like synth section from a very good workstation keyboard. That's not a compliment.
The ONLY thing keeping me from this synth is the surprisingly shallow modulation options and to a lesser extent the price. Wavetable LFO's?? Like give me 6 of those! And 3 EG's is like pathetic.
I bought this thing and I'm not impressed by the presets. I have the Q and love it's sound. These patches sound like they were done by an auto patch generator. Although it is convenient to have the tracks get to the PC via USB, it takes up your DAW's asio slot to do so... and has no input. So, good luck laying down a vocal. You'll have to render the track as audio before you can do that. I just bought it for myself as a birthday gift and am thinking of selling it already.
To me it sounds good here but definitely not worth $2300 so far. I’ve yet to hear anything that my current setup couldn’t achieve. I have the Argon8 preordered and I think it sounds miles better than this so far.
These sounds were horrible. Why would you not hire one of the youtubers to create a demo for you ? This synth is probably the next Virus but with these examples no one will buy.
It's everywhere to read wavetables here and there. The Kyra can not play wavetables and fading from one waveform to another does not. Own waveforms are not supported and the waveform pool comes from the AKWF waveforms. My opinion about it. Far too expensive for what he can. The ElectraX by Tone2 can do a lot more and only costs a small part of what the Kyra costs.
@@witherwillowsounds3935 I mean it in the sense of, if you were in the market for a brand new VA synth which would you choose ? 10 year old tech (with shitty USB sync) or the newer, more powerful model with working USB? Why does the Kyra sounds so sad?
about 4:39 part from ?
I wish you'd been quicker with the release... I just bought a TI2 :/
My TI sounds way better than this you made the right choice!
@@DimensionFlux *what's the best 16 part multi-timbral desktop synth right now?*
I didn't get a TI2 because I was waiting for the Kyra. But now that the internet has started uploading Kyra demos, I'm wondering if I should have gotten the old synth instead of waiting for the new one.
The most incredible sounding synth with the worst possible UI of all time. Still can’t wait for the keyboard version :)
2:32 and 5:58 The money shots
My 10 years old Virus TI Polar can make the sounds similar like what I heard.
Instruments themselves don't change the world, its the musician who changes the world, this synth is a beast, now lets see what you can do with it.
What can it do that a software DAW like FL Studio cannot for a smaller price??
The sounds are nice though.
Not bringing a laptop and soundcard on stage
If you need to ask then it’s not for you.
Huff Talbot dont know how are the blofeld encoders but check out the ones in Elektron machines!
CleanseFManipulate great don’t be convinced we don’t care
Kinda harsh sounds, Was that Juno Bass Patch a joke? It was so thin that a top model would be jealous.
Good for Leads thou
Looks like it should have been a hardware version of CA Alchemy, it’s a shame it isn’t. Just a thought guy’s 😬 it’s very stable looking I give you that, for the right person with the right performance in mind and deeper pockets than me, it’s probably just what’s needed,.
Camel Audio Alchemy are you referring to?
-no audio rate lfo-s ( only 14 Hz ) ,
-No filter FM
-no math functions in the modmatrix

what we're you guys smoking ??
This is not the waldorf we're used to , the modulation spec's are below par , we don't need a gazillion voices , we need a powerfull audio rate enabled modmatrix

Difficult question since 8+ multimbral synths are scarce atm
I would say blofeld

LOt's of great synths out there
I still have a nord modular g1 and it's only 4 parts
I think some of you are being too critical. This is more of a string / background synth. It's not meant to sit up front in a mix. It adds ambience. Good for many things, just not dance floor tracks so much. I am guessing you can get more out of it though too.
i think that is a good insight. maybe there is a little too much effect sauce on the final sound.
Can you confirm it can fit in 19”? Cheers
It's not 19 inch rack mountable. It uses VESA mounting
*sigh*.. that’s what I’ve feared since NAMM
So the STVC is only a master keyboard for you ...
I understand that he never came out more than two years after his announcement!
it's discouraging...
?? the waldorf stvc is out and available.
Where is it available? Says preorder everywhere
In my opinion at nearly 2k asking price I think its a bit overpriced.
considering the choice you have now for true analogue polyphonic synthesizers costing less.
Just my opinion.
Show me something that sounds as good or better with the same feature set... Don't get me wrong.. I'll be getting the Behringer CS-80 clone but this is a sure buy to unless i hear better.
korg Xd better
Hydrasynth sounds as good and cheaper
A JV 2080 at 5 times the price?
Great patches, kudos to programmers
To me it sounds fine. But a demo with actual music styles would certainly be more helpful.
You can buy a Summit for that price its a cutting edge FPGA synth that does wavetables and you can even draw your own.

*We normal Synth-Freaks must wait a little bit, may be 1 or 2 Month, so its a good Christmas-Gift ;)*

Ehh just send this to Virtual Riot.
sounds boomy and digital.
This thing sounds like canned dry beans.🌮
Super boring demo. Come on Waldorf, I'm sure you can do better!
Electra X sounds very deep & fat.
Not better than my Supernova 2 ....
R.I.P Access Virus. Had a good run to be fair.
I have a TI2, and although this does have more capabilities, I didn't hear anything in this particular demo that I couldn't get close to on my TI2.
@@witherwillowsounds3935 I mean it in the sense of, if you were in the market for a brand new VA synth which would you choose ? 10 year old tech (with shitty USB sync) or the newer, more powerful model with working USB? I think the latter hence R.I.P Access Virus. It's simply a no brainer for those looking to buy a brand new VA synth.
@@fundementalroast7002 I certainly can't disagree about shitty USB sync, but I think there are other things out there that are perhaps more intuitive, or make better sounds. I've been interested in this synth ever since it was announced (as the Valkyrie), but I was hoping the first demos wouldn't, for the most part, just show a bunch of generic synth sounds I've heard a billion times, already.
My Virus TI2 Darkstar isn’t going anywhere. Different character totally. I like the dark spacey sound of the Virus.
@@witherwillowsounds3935 I think this instrument appeals to folk who want a very powerful hardware synth to add to their collection and have the time to spend getting to know it. I agree the demos have not blown me away but for a Virtual Analog it is quite stunning and to think we may only be scratching the surface.
This sounds very average and VST like. And demoing it with such boring sounds is anti-presentation.
Was my exact feeling as well.
