Stixo no Zinyo, Lubabalo Loyilani & Mpumelelo Matayi on their Xhosa Animation Series

Stixo no Zinyo, Lubabalo Loyilani & Mpumelelo Matayi created the UA-cam animation sensation Stixo from characters they observed in their neighbourhood, Motherwell in Gqeberha, South Africa. They came up with the character, Stixo (Key) from fusing attributes from different players in their community as a way of educating women against the tactics of such players.
The duo started drawing at school and decided to take their talent further by promoting their talent on social media platforms to get an audience. Lubabalo and Mpumelelo then decided to start Stixo in 2018 to tell stories of players in their neighbourhood. They say their animation series doesn't only focus on the entertainment aspect of their product but they are also keenly interested in educating the youth on different issues affecting their communities.
In the next few months they are planning to focus more on growing their brand and are planning on getting into children focused animation productions.
They are both animators and voice-overs in the series, with Lubabalo voicing Zinyo and doing character animation and Mpumelelo on the other end is a background and scene animator and voices the main character, Stixo.
On this interview they also talk about Stixo Imfene episode, Stixo Taxi and Stixo no Zinyo, whilst they also explain the role Ace plays in the life of Stixo and Amanda and their relationship. The series talks and educates about social issues like teenage pregnancy and alcohol abuse.
They say they have a responsibility to educate and try to give an uplifting message in their comedy.
