    Translation
    Angels
    What you get to feel
    can't be explained here
    you get a surprise
    that you can't even imagine
    you can't go back
    you can't go down
    When you're already flying
    you can't fall down anymore...
    You see roofs and houses
    and the great outskirts
And you see how may things
    are just "nonsense"
    And here...and here...
    ...angels don't come
with the light bugs and the cicadas
    And here...and here...
"you don't get to see those summers anymore"
    "those summers"
    Here it's logical
to change your mind a thousand times
    and it's easy
    to feel like nothing
Here you don't have the "I'm sorry"
that can keep you up there
    Here the night is dark
    and there's only you
You live on the verge of falling
and you smoke your Lucky Strikes
    and you realize
just how much you'll curse them...
    And here....and here...
    "orders" can't reach...
to teach you the right path
    And here....and here...
    Angels don't come!

This song was dedicated to an old Vasco's friend who had died because of cancer. The most incredible thing is that in your reaction, even without knowing the lyrics, you felt the sense of missing someone, the pain and all the emotions.
This means the song is incredibly direct, meaningful and totally self explaining, able to reach everyone, even without understanding a single word of the lyrics.

Hey Ang, a bit of context about "Gli Angeli": It was written for Maurizio Lolli, Vasco's long time manager and friend, who died of lung cancer. You'll notice in the lyrics Lucky Strike get mentioned, those were his friend's favourite cigarettes. As a fellow smoker I say let's do a little ritual dance to chase the bad juju away, and then let's proceed to cry our eyes out like everybody else does every time this damn song get played.
Here's my translation, which is a bit less literal than others I've seen around, but I think it catches better the mood of the song:
    What you feel
    Can’t be explained
    This is a surprise
    You didn’t see coming
    You can’t rewind time
    You can’t land down
    When you’re already flying
    You can’t fall down anymore
    You see roofs and houses
    And the ever stretching suburbs
    You see how many things
    Are just bullshit
From up here, from up here
    Angels can’t reach out
    With fireflies and cicadas
From up here, from up here
You can’t recall those summer times
    Those summer times
    Over here it’s normal
To change your mind a thousand times
    And it’s easy
    To feel like trash
Over here you have no more excuses
    To keep you afloat
Over here the night is dark
    And you’re alone with yourself
    You live precariously
    While smoking your Lucky Strike
    And you fully know
    How cursed they are
From up here, from up here
    Orders won’t get dispatched
To lead you on the good path
From up here, from up here
    Angels can’t reach out.

In Italy today Vasco is considered one of the greatest existing songwriters, perhaps one of the last remaining and started by previous generations.
In the 80s he was considered by the parents of the boys, the junkie not to be heard, the one who would lead you to become a drifter. Look for the interview made by mike bongiorno where vasco was under the influence of drugs, it is a piece of Italian TV history. Then over time he changed, he changed his path and continued to assert himself through the generations. All the Italian boys of the 80s grew up with Vasco. What led him to this huge success was initially being the banner of rebel youngsters, then the quality and honesty of his nuanced lyrics, and of course his exceptional musicians and his visceral way of singing. Vasco is flesh, blood and soul, the Maneskins are plastic.
It comes from a time when the Italians made great music with their hearts: PFM, Cocciante, Lucio Dalla, De Andrè.

Vasco Rossi is not simply the greatest Italian band, but he is one of the greatest European and world rockers and bands ever, of rock. They were born around 1977, an endless career, without stopping, never a decline, only successes. Unmatched for quality, longevity in Europe and in the world.
The fact that he is not known abroad is an absolutely insignificant thing, but also strange and absurd, which is also explained by Vasco's interest in not caring about compromises and always singing only in Italian, not caring about having fame too abroad.
After all Vasco has almost all of Italy under his feet, generations after generations that pass on his cult.
Vasco is part of the Italian mass culture.
It is part of the Italian custom!
For a person who is not Italian it is impossible to understand Vasco's greatness, because they do not know him and have not lived 40 constant years of Vasco's culture and music...
Vasco is absolutely unique and pure. He at 101% embodies the motto "sex drugs and rock'n'roll", he is one of the greatest rockers of all time.
Even if Vasco has not much following abroad, as a music lover, I can say that Vasco is the essence of rock and embodies it conceptually, spiritually and physically as the greatest foreign rockers of the past and better than many others, he is a great legend.
Then you, rightly, do not know him well, but he is really a crazy character from all points of view: funny, goliardic, histrionic, crazy, exaggerated, strange, nice, one of a kind, in his way of thinking, in interviews that releases, his philosophy of life, how he interprets and enjoys / lives rock music.
Vasco is the essence of rock, he is rock in the head, in the heart, in the marrow and in the soul, in his way of speaking, in his way of gesturing.
His immense personality. His funny way is a bit awkward especially in gesturing with his arms (as if swaying like a drunk) or in walking awkwardly with a swollen belly, his sloppy and wobbly way of posing and moving, his physicality destroyed by the fault of half a century of rock, drugs and excesses of all kinds ... 🤣 (Ozzy Osbourne is a bit of an Italian).
Vasco is rock even in his hoarse and trembling voice...
    He is eternal and inimitable!!!
I struggle to find characters like Vasco even abroad, he has a crazy rock charisma and aesthetic. Vasco Rossi in Italy is beyond music: he is something sacred, a culture, a religion, a God, he is a divinity.
In Italy Vasco's fans are a tribe, a legion of millions of Italians who follow him everywhere en masse since 1977. Vasco is a way of life.

If I think of bands with the same continuity, power and constancy, hardly anyone comes to mind, I think of Queen, Oasis, muse, Guns n 'Roses, 90s grunge bands, it occurs to me that they are only for a short time these bands, full stadiums for a few years or a few decades. Many of these bands have actually had short cycles, starting and ending in a few years or as little as 1 or 2 decades.
Vasco...on the other hand, has been going on like a jackhammer incessantly since 1977, with inimitable constancy of charisma, success and audience following in live shows, and has only gone on with great successes and ALWAYS with concerts in crowded arenas or in immense lawns. Something never seen in Europe.
Vasco's concerts can only be conceived in large stadiums or in infinite grasslands.
Because every Vasco live concert is a historical event, like a concert at Wembley in London or like a small Woodstock ... every Vasco live is a meeting place for thousands, thousands and hundreds of thousands of people.
I don't remember any other European band (or American on tour in Europe) capable of making so much public at every concert and above all of filling stadiums and prairies for so MANY CONSECUTIVE DECADES, without ever a decline.
VASCO ALSO HAS MANY ITALIAN-EUROPEAN and WORLD RECORDS.
VASCO ALSO HAS THE EUROPEAN AND WORLD RECORD OF MAXIMUM AUDIENCE IN A CONCERT:
      - "The event, hosted at the Enzo Ferrari park, holds the world record for the concert with the highest number of paying spectators, with 225,173 tickets issued, of which 5,000 are free".
(Beating Tina Turner, a-Ha and Paul McCartney).
In Vasco's music the repertoire is infinite: rock, hard rock, Rick metal, poprock, pop ... everything. Hard songs, but also ballads, melodic songs and poems. Vasco wrote among the most beautiful and poetic texts of Italian music.
Vasco's way of writing texts is very particular: the texts can sometimes be "rough", allusive, "vulgar", harsh and offensive, but always with an ironic and good-natured side. the problems are serious and important most of the time. Other times they can be sweet and poetic texts (of the good Italian tradition, which always pays great attention to the quality and refinement of the texts). Other Vasco songs are very ironic, goliardic, full of funny allusions, puns, really weird stories etc.
Vasco's texts are usually very long. And if you notice how he sings ... he looks like he's talking.
This is no joke, all Vasco Rossi's musicians are exceptional, among the best to be found in Italy, Europe / world etc. Whether it's backing vocals, bassists, guitarists, drummers and most of all keyboard players, they all have an exceptional quality and enviable experience. They are refined, technicians, all extremely trained musicians, of immense personality on stage, capable of playing anything, any genre, they have exceptional skills of improvisation, great hold and charisma to face very long and exhausting live concerts.
They have been doing it for 45 years at this technical and charismatic level.
They are monumental, mammoth and superior quality live concerts... a level that is difficult to find ...
Vasco Rossi has written among the most beautiful, eternal, magical, poetic, iconic, cult, generational, exciting, moving and powerful Italian (and not only) songs

Furthermore, Vasco's career is very long, so his music has gone through different periods and every period has its own peculiarity. At the end of the 1970s his music was closer to Italian songwriters but with great novelties in the written text. Vasco has been an innovator in the Italian song lyrics (together with Rino Gaetano another Italian artist that unfortunately died very young). In the 1980s he became the 'rockstar' with very trasgressive and ironic songs while in the '90s he reached maturity. I don't know how many songs he has written, but the 80% of them are masterpieces. One of them is 'Siamo soli'. Anyway, for most Italians Vasco is like the Coliseum or the Pisa Tower, he is part of our culture, every Italian knows by heart the lyrics of 'Albachiara'. Every Italian woman is 'Sally' or 'Susanna' or 'Jenny'...

you can feel the pain resulting from the imminent loss of a great friend...the friend is about to die and you would like the angels to protect him and promise him that he too will become an angel who continues an adventure after death...one adventure completely different from his life more detached from earthly things. It is one of Vasco's most beautiful and spiritual songs...Vasco who probably doesn't believe in the afterlife and who for his friend, instead, hopes to be wrong and that there is an afterlife of angels for good people. A beautiful song and beautifully performed.

@MetalHead , you said it looks like they are on another planet while performing this. And it's interesting because the official videoclip for this song depicts Vasco Rossi while floating in the space in the earth orbit and observing everything from above. You also said it looks like he's saying "goodbye" while waving his hands: in a certain way you are correct, because Vasco is talking about how all earthly matters are small when seen from high above; every suffering, every joy, everything is so small and distant.
So yeah, you didn't read the lyrics, but you still felt the vibes coming from this song!

After his first albums, Vasco was attacked by a great part of Italian middle-class society as a drug-addicted, a bad example. He was immediately isolated by everybody in music and television scene; when he was arrested in 1984 just one "colleague", one singer, visited him in jail. He was De André... And his isolation in music scene finished when, always in 1984, Gino Paoli ("grandfather" of the Italian music, singer and talent scount, friend of De André, Tenco and the other Genovesi) sung with him in "Quattro amici al bar" (I suggest you to listen it) and said in public "People: this is my heir. Stop hate him".
Yes, Vasco his the heir of Paoli, De André, Guccini, De Gregori and so on: his rock came from them, there's a fil rouge that connects one to others.
Greetings from Italy, you're fantastic man with a amazing mind open to the world, that's rare!

Vasco is the italian rock's OG
I try to translate the lyrics:
    Quello che si prova
    Non si può spiegare qui
    Hai una sorpresa
    Che neanche te lo immagini
    - what is feeled
    - can't be explained here
    - you have a surprise
    - that you can't even imagine
    Dietro non si torna
    Non si può tornare giù
    Quando ormai si vola
    Non si può cadere più
    - you can't go back
    - you can't go back down
    - when you are almost flying
    - you can't fall anymore
    Vedi tetti e case
    E grandi le periferie
    E vedi quante cose
    Sono solo fesserie
    - you see roofs and houses
    - and the huge suburbs
    - and you see how many things
    - are just nonsense
E da qui, e da qui
    Qui non arrivano gli angeli
Con le lucciole e le cicale
E da qui, e da qui
Non le vedi più quelle estati lì
    Quelle estati lì
    - and from here, from here
    - here where the angels can't arrive
    - with the fireflies and the cicadas
    - and from here, from here
    - you don't see these summers anymore
    - these summers anymore
    Qui è logico
    Cambiare mille volte idea
    Ed è facile
    Sentirsi da buttare via
    - here is logical
    - change a thousand times idea
    - and it's easy
    - feel ourself to be thrown away
    Qui non hai la scusa
    Che ti può tenere su
    Qui la notte è buia
    E ci sei soltanto tu
    - here you don't have the excuses
    - that can hold you on
    - here the night is dark
    - and there are only you
    Vivi in bilico
E fumi le tue Lucky Strike
    E ti rendi conto
    Di quanto le maledirai
    - you live on balance
    - and smoke your Lucky Strike
    - and realize
    - how much you will damn them
E da qui, e da qui
    Qui non arrivano gli ordini
    A insegnarti la strada buona
E da qui, e da qui
    Qui non arrivano gli angeli
    - and from here, from here
    - here where don't arrive orders
    - to teach you the right path
    - and from here, from here
    - here angels will not arrive
(I hope I translated it well enough to transmit the feelings that this song give, I'm sorry if I made any mistakes)

I have had a free time to watch the video only now... I've been Vasco fans since I was 6 and now I have 22 years old and I can say that I am still growing with her songs... I recommend some of its recent pieces “SE TI POTESSI DIRE” “LA VERITÀ ” “UNA CANZONE D’AMORE BUTTATA VIA ”.
With “GLI ANGELI”which is in this video, I personally very much cry while I’m listening it because I unfortunately have sad moments linked to this song.
And Vasco is immense for that very reason.
with his songs it's part of a few moments in the life of all of us.
And as he says, ‘Who love my song love them because inside him self have the same thing I feel inside my self’ and many of us are in love with them.
