- Be careful if you buy a used Spuhr mount. These fake are getting very real looking. This video is a how to on how to spot a fake. There may be other fakes out there but this covers pretty much all the things to look for.
Thanks. I saw another discussion about fakes, but you pointed out some additional things to look for.
Thank you. I did also find out from Spuhr that the now countersink the holes for the 4 long screws that clamp the mount to the rail and they have made a handful of CUSTOM ordered ones with green levels. The quality on the level on the Spuhr is noticeably better.
Do you carry Sphr mount `34 rings
So a real Spuhr is hundreds of dollars and even if you go with a mechnical angle finder you will be around the $1k mark... go electronic and it could easily go above $1500. I bought a Japanese copy for $25 and slapped it on my PRS and I can honestly say that it makes no difference unless you are one of those extreme bench rest people. I hate it when people knock Chinese products without any clue what they are talking about. Your cell phone and computers are made in China. The frame on my 1911 race gun and reciever on my m14 competition gun (such as those of the majority of other competitors) are made in China and for good reason... they make a superior product. I am not saying that Spuhr doesn't make a superior product but for that price, there are better American made products out there and if it takes a Chinese company to put Spuhr in their lane then so be it.
Wow remind me to never let you know about one the designs I am working on LOL. If someone can build something just as good or better for less then more power to them, that is the point of capitalism. Stealing other's intellectual property for profit is NOT.
Even the good German brands are made in China or the Philippines.
You said everything My friend, Some Invent something and Charge 500 DOLLARS! Someone copy it with the exact same plant and material quality and sell at 50 DOLLARS, In the pratical world is the SAME PRODUCT, but when you pay 50 you are not being robbed!
@@Area_051 I have a friend who works on china, some products OEM cost exemplo 100 dollars, but when it's branded go to USA they sell the exact same product for 500 700 Dollars, that's absurd!!!
But the washers are a different color and it feels different in your hands 😂 What a joke.
Great video, thanks for the info and side by side comparison
Glad it was helpful!
You obviously seem to have received a bad copy of the Spuhr mount.😉
I also have an original Spuhr on my Howa and the fake on my Tikka in 22lr.
You can see a difference in a few details, but for 1/8 of the price of the Spuhr mount,
I'm not really interested in that.
At work, I tested the fake and the original mount on a Zeiss measuring machine for accuracy.
And what can I say, the fake is made just as accurately as the original.
This was later confirmed when I shot it.
The anodizing isn't any worse than the original, by the way.
Was the thing really worse than the real Spuhr, or are you just afraid of selling fewer real Spuhr mounts...?😎
quality is subjective. But in my opinion you can see the diff in quality in the anodizing between the two. For me it's also about intellectual property. Buying fake is just plain wrong, if I can't afford the real thing I will buy something else but not fake. There are plenty of other really nice scope mounts out there for much less money (warne, am defrence, am rifle company etc etc).
@@augerprecisionfirearms3247 .....yet you are probably a vortex fan-boy, or for that matter, - anything but the Euro-scopes, & if it's not Euro Mfg'd, such as leupold, nf,....etc.,it's made in the same place or have parts sourced from the same place as Arken & simmons & bushnell leupold, nf etc..... & quality is NOT subjective as use simply proves it.....duh.......vortex scopes are guaranteed to use their warranty, not so with Euro Mfg'd. scopes, & spuhr mounts have a general consensus to break.....proof is in the pud'n.
@augerprecisionfirearms3247 The fake one I have looks great and has worked flawlessly. It only cost me $60 compared to $475 for a real one. How much money is Spuhr making at that price? They're the ones creating the market for the fake ones
The play here noticed something else, where are the 320 dollars between fake and real ones? Everithing is becoming over value and nobody try to stop this or try to understamd this...ir's an hemorrhage from our wallet without a real reason...
I wouldn't say that. The fake looks similar but that's where it ends. The fakes are snuck into the country not paying fees/taxes etc, the chinese gov't funds the junk to hurt markets as well as the real ones are not cast but made from forgings. On top of that there is intellectual property. To say a a genuine Sphur mount is over priced means you would not buy one and that's ok. They are worth whatever people are willing to pay and if someone else can design a product for less to compete with it without infringing on someone else's patents, more power to them.
For long range 22 lr its replica ok or not ?
Honestly a replica is never ok. If someone buys a fake, they are supporting thieves. I recommend buying a genuine mount that is in whatever budget you have vs. buying from a thief/scam artist.
@@augerprecisionfirearms3247
I have the originals. 308 for win. but too much for 22 lr. and it doesn't have to be a spuhr copy, it can be something else cheaper. the question is whether such cheap ones. is good enough quality for 22lr. and if the salary is not 5,000 euros but 1,500, then it is difficult for people to allow goods for 500 euros.
I have a clone. Except for the green spirit level, everything is almost identical.
Great quality.
I used it on a .308 and .338
The manufacturer only has itself to blame if it charges extremely high prices.
@@Schlumpfblau thank you very much, good news to start putting together a 22lr set:)
@@augerprecisionfirearms3247The thief/scam artists are the ones selling the same product for 8x the price.
I got scammed, paid 200 for a fake spuhr, feels so bad...
Rather buy a fake one than a real one that would just crack anyway
My cracked real one is probably ten plus years old and failed do to my lack of using an inch lb torque wrench. The fake will fail sooner. Not to mention, Spuhr took care of and promptly sent me a new piece no questions asked. Plus if you can't afford a real one I would recommend buying something decent like a set of Talley rings (I use those as well on some rifles) instead of helping a thief steal intellectual property and give money to china at the same time. But that is just my opinion.
.....just as good as the original....just like the duds that by fake scopes named vortex vs a real scope like S&B, Kahles,, or S&B, with the exception, dummies pay the same price just about for a fake as they do the real.....lmao !!
65 dollars for this vs 65 dollars for a cheap and also made in china mount on optics planet or similar. Hmm 🤔
There is more than that. It's also about people possibly thinking they are buying a genuine item and getting scammed. For example if someone were to buy a fake on ebay and then try to resell it for much more they could scam someone. This video will hopefully help a would-be consumer be more educated to make a more informed purchase. Also there are decent made in USA mounts that are not terribly expensive if budget is a concern. I have a set of 34mm Talley rings that work great and are very inexpensive. I would buy good us made talley rings before helping scammers or people peddling fakes.
