Just to be clear, I made this song for Harmony Of A Hunter in early 2012. Since I didn't want to have a boring backdrop when I uploaded it to UA-cam, I conceived of this film-like sequence for it, with the intent of it being a cool bonus video for the album. The original concept was to have Samus trying to escape Maridia, going through several different scenes, and ending with a big battle with Draygon. But after working on it for six months, the album was about to be released, so I had to cut it short. It probably would have taken a full year to complete. This was created with 3ds Max, Photoshop, and After Effects.
On a personal note, when it comes to criticism, obviously not everyone in the world likes the same things. It's not really necessary to waste comment space with complaints. Silence accomplishes that just fine. But that's a biased opinion as I myself am not the sort of person to bother complaining about other artists' work.

I personally prefer an Opaque Visor and you just see the Visor itself and not Samus's eyes, but that's my own opinion. And perhaps you can continue the animations you planned.
This scene is done to perfection, this is how id imagine mardridia would look in 3D.
It took about half a year just to conceive, model, animate, render, and edit the short amount of footage here. I'd love to do a lot more, if I had about 5 clones of myself and could afford to work on it full time lol

Well, if I ever win the lottery, I'll be sure to inject a ton of money into expanding the project into a multipart animated silent film style production for you then. This is absolutely incredible. The feel, atmosphere, and emotion conveyed here is incredible and absolutely in keeping true to the spirit of the series. This is amazing and I'd love to see something like that done with this series. (Honestly, I think it's the only way a full-scale Metroid production could be done without significant deviating from the story within the game series itself. We'll also pretend that Other M never happened...)
@@KennyTheB Thank you, at this point I've got a much better handle on doing high end CG work so I plan to do some more animation like this for my upcoming Metroid Cinematica vinyl release
I was a little upset when it cut to metroid gameplay. I was seriously hooked, expecting a fully animated thing. In either case, it was very amazing, both music and opening scene. You should think of doing a full fledged scene.
If there was a full length 10-20 minute film, this would have been uploaded around 2016. They take a while.
Lucas Tuckwood Making a 10-20 length films on sourcefilm maker is actually kinda fast way to make a 3d animations. I'thing it would take a 5 or less months to make a full animation.
ShadowFalconPictures Sourcefilm is just a game engine you can animate with. The animation process is the fastest and easiest part already. This has nothing to do with the process of having to model the entire environment from scratch, the creatures in it, special effects, rendering and compositing. If someone was kind of enough to create and provide EVERY model, rig them for animation, and all environment assets you need based on Metroid, then whatever animation/rendering system you use wouldn't really matter at that point.

I loved how non-linear Super Metroid was, like how many people knew about that electric wall grappling beam to kill the boss quickly trick?
There were a variety of tricks too. Crystal Flash was the most famous, but things like Mockbomb and other effects from unequipping some beam upgrades and seeing what happens when you charge or othewise mess with stuff... yeah, they definitely went above and beyond for Super Metroid. It has its flaws compared to modern games, the floaty controls and such, but you know, its an incredible game for its era. In the end, even Nostalgia cannot hold a candle/charged arm cannon to the incredible design the game had, even with its old-era limitations and mis-steps (like somewhat floaty controls and a lack of easy ability to aim, etc).
Even now, its a wonderous game, and frankly the way to make it better would be to just introduce analogue stick based aiming to it from the latest couple games. And update the graphics. Maybe add some extra attacks to each boss. But past that, keep all the same sequence breaks, and everything else that made Super Metroid what it was. And still is.
This video is not only better than the cutscenes in other M as a video in general but also as a Metroid video, capturing the alien atmosphere Metroid is known for almost perfectly in one short video.
Hell, I wouldn't expect much different from an 8th gen Metroid game.

Thanks, y'all :) I'm going to focus on my own stuff for a while now though, and finish some of my game projects. Maybe one day when I get lots of money and N approves I can make a Metroid movie ;)

I'd love to make a full length video actually, but seeing as how I'm just a dude making stuff in his room by himself, it took months just to do the couple minutes in the beginning. I actually have a story planned out for a Metroid movie though, maybe someday...
SamoStudios Wow that is amazing, it excites me to know that there is someone out there with the skill and even imagination capable of combining them into something magical :) I felt like a kid watching the intro.. and was curious to see more! Maybe someday people will get together and use the skills the learned alone in their rooms to create something spectacular! :D It's always good to be optimistic ^-^
I have always been captivated by the Metroid series, and if it were to ever be released as a well-made sci fi movie, I would be more than excited to grab front row seats ^-^ The story of Samus Aran has so much potential :D
Hopefully someday Nintendo will open their eyes and witness just how many fans love Metroid. Apparently it wasn't as much a hit in Japan...
SamoStudios Story how? I hope it's nothing like the Other M. Metroid is strongest when everything is implied. Hopefully not tons of dialogue from Samus or others.

well dialogue can be good as long as the actors that are voicing them have at least some experience in acting. Finding someone who can voice Samus could be difficult. Nintendo didnt give a shit apparently because they found a random girl to voice her. She sounded too plain, she needs to have some feeling in her voice. Even emotions because she's human too you know. I hope im not being corny or anything

This was absolutely fantastic. I have never played Other M, and at first I thought this might be a cutscene from the game. I though to myself 'This is great, I can't believe people have criticised this game so much when it has cutscenes so self-aware of previous instalments as this.'

That was amazing! It also shows how scary it would be to be in Samus' position. But I knew Samus wouldn't use the super bomb to break the glass.
I can imagine a submarine exploring the remains of a long-lost shipwreck in the deepest abysses of the oceans as this song's tunes haunt the atmosphere.

Man, I'm just discovering this now because the Maridia theme is one of the most underused songs in the entire franchise in my opinion, and I was talking to a friend about it when I found this. This is dope, and like many others, I do wish it had been a full short film. However, I understand why you didn't make a whole film. You've got talent dude, and I would love to see you one day fulfill your wish of finishing a whole animation for it, if you have any desire to come back to this anyway.
Also I wholeheartedly agree with others here: Metroid needs some proper, deep storytelling to compliment stuff like this.
As a side note, kinda hilarious that your little datapad you made to show the game footage looks a LOT like a Nintendo Switch, despite the Switch not even being a concept yet when you released this. xD

Wow, ten years it’s been since you made this. I just played Super Metroid again recently and it still holds up, despite the many gripes I have with it. It’s a fantastic game and this is a fantastic animation and composition! Well done!

I've always associated this Maridia song to the sentiment of solitude, abandon and hopelessness; I'm glad that was reflected in watching Samus falling down the deep waters.
It's only me or do anyone else feel so depressed when you hear the song every time in the game? I don't know it have something that sadden me a lot but at the same time I love it... it's weird, anyway, nice arrangement :)
I've always felt that way actually, it has a very melancholy and lonely feel. When I was a kid, every time it rained I would hear the Maridia music in my head hehe.
Look at this! Metroid has so many fans. You see nintendo, people love and crave metroid. I certainly hope other m is not the last of metroid, after all, the left us hanging after fusion.

I agree 100%, I think it has to be done like this, no real actors... because they'd want their face to be shown every 2 damn seconds. Like this, Samus can keep her helmet on as she's supposed to.

The animations was epic, anytime I see anything metroid, I get butterflies and squirmy Hahaha don't let negative criticism affect you, There'll always, ALWAYS; be those whom cannot appreciate the efforts put into projects like these, the final result doesn't have to be a masterpiece or perfect, perfection is in the eye of the beholder. This score could have sounded 8bit quality, and still I would have praised it, simply because it's a work of a art, an effort put forth by the creator. Again, Kudos and keep up the amazing work. Wish I could be a part of something like this, I live for metroid and samus aran. I have my own written story of metroid I did many years ago. No greater obsession than metroid and it's music and storyline.

Super Metroid needs a remake but 3D and modern graphics/gameplay. Same levels and bosses but it would still be different and incredible. Probably way more scary than the others too. Especially if Maridia started out pitch black with just the little glow from your suit lighting your way. Scary as fuck.

Back in the days of little story in games that may be the way it was done, but if they were to do a remake of Super Metroid, a cutscene like this would be amazing. I especially like the atmospheric effect of after struggling free of the sucker from the beast, Samus is stuck falling through an infinite blackness, with the only light visible from her suit. The atmosphere of that scene is brilliantly lonely and poignant, capturing the basis of what the Metroid series gameplay is about.
